TROPHY CASE

Why Reddit Rules In The Social Media Age: "I've become convinced that Reddit is now a major hub of Internet influence, about on par with Twitter and Facebook." by trot-trotin TrueReddit

[–]MercurialMadnessMan 0 points1 point ago

I completely agree with you. And I think that the most powerful part about reddit is that at any one time you can find the most powerful idea on the whole site. There's really nothing like that on Facebook. On twitter, there are trending tags, but those are generally small enough to be incredibly general (representing a topic not an idea).

We created the anti-Godaddy anti-SOPA day. We thought up the Colbert-Stewart rally. These were small ideas that grew through popularity and spread around the nation/world.

It's funny how the more I read TrueReddit, the longer the title of the masked villain.

I grew up "openly" Christian (now mostly atheist), and would agree with most of what you wrote here. In my opinion, it's okay to be christian and disagree with even a vast portion of the bible's text. Priests/churches (in my area at least) cherry-pick scriptures just as much as people in general do. The idea of christianity that I was raised with was of the over-arching values taught in the book (mainly in the ten commandments), and supported by many of the parables.

For my young brain, it didn't matter who actually wrote the bible or how it all came together, or whether it was actually historically correct. The main purpose was to share some positive values between a large group of people you gathered with every week.

I very much agree with you.

Side note: externalities can be positive or negative, so perhaps make the distinction next time.

How fixing such a mistake would be undesirable to /anyone/ is beyond me.

Your opinion of this view doesn't mean that this view doesn't exist. In fact, I think that the saying "no regrets" completely contradicts your view, yet is a very popular view in society.

I really don't know why you've been downvoted here, as I agree with you.

I often see on reddit this idea that "realism, reality, truth, etc." are foundational to everyone's worldview. But I really don't think that's the case.

He's suggesting that people value religion to the point of ignoring evidence against it.

While the analogy is about harm, I don't believe it was the actual point he was trying to get across. In general, it's about being challenged on something you believe in.

It's hard to make an analogy that everyone can relate to. I thought he did a fantastic job.

I thought this was a typo, but we must have looked at this differently. In my opinion, atheists also don't consider the default position. The position being that, "everyone around me abides by the word of God, so it must be okay".

I completely agree with you. We unintentionally further bias the subreddits that we give up on.

Isn't most of quantum mechanics based around the standard model of particle physics, which still has many problems?

It seems reasonable to question the validity of the standard model itself. Although, it's necessary to accept the fact that quantum mechanics has had many proven and repeatable effects that are useful regardless of the validity of the standard model.

Perhaps different musical styles foster different themes.

I prefer the ucalgary one as well.

So many class and style files, though. I guess it has advantages and disadvantages. Just learned about arlatex today.

And this report I'm making is less formal, so I'll probably add a logo to the front and ditch some of the headings/pages/etc.
