Have you tried the microSD in a PC or a different microSD in the DX?

Microsoft began testing whether a pricing strategy that has been a hit with smartphones will invigorate sales of its Xbox 360 videogame consoles by God_Wills_Itin gamingnews

[–]Mattbot5000 0 points1 point ago

Where did they get the $15/month cost of Xbox Live Gold? It's $9.99/month if you get it on a monthly basis. Since the contract is for 2 years, you would get the yearly rate of $59.99/year (cheaper if you get the cards on sale) bringing the total cost to 99+2*60 = $219. Amazon has the 4GB Xbox w/ Kinect for $283, meaning this is still a good deal.

If getting this subsidy means you have to pay a special rate of $15/month, however, this is a horrible deal.

I think this is an excellent model for Microsoft if they price it competitively with outright purchasing the Xbox. Having a monthly rate almost triple the normal is not the way to do that, though.

How would that work? Then the customers couldn't use the demo phones unless the PIN was provided, in which case they could be changed by the customers anyway.

[SMT] A browser extension which adds a flag next to peoples' names displaying their nationality in Wikipedia by schoolboyerrorin SomebodyMakeThis

[–]Mattbot5000 2 points3 points ago

There's a couple of issues with this.

First is how do you determine one's nationality. Wikipedia usually lists their birth country in the info-box. Their nationality is in plain language if it is present at all. This would make it a little tricky to determine.

Second, when you opened a Wikipedia page, all the links on that page would have to be opened in the background to determine if that link is referring to a person and to determine their nationality if it is. This would take a considerable amount of time.

More ideally, this would simply be a feature of Wikipedia which could solve both of these issues. Honestly, I think it's a great idea and could even be furthered to cities.

OK, I fixed those two things. You can get the new version from the same link. Thanks for the feedback!

I'll add a check for the folder tonight. I was lazy with the arguments and so it is looking for the username 'num_comments=1000'. I'll fix that tonight as well.

Sorry, I think this is caused by reddit rate-limited the script, but I'm not really sure. The downloadable version doesn't have this problem, you should try that if you have Python installed.

How can I take a .jps photo file and make a animated .gif? by lolziesin Android

[–]Mattbot5000 1 point2 points ago

Actually, assuming you're on Windows, the program jorticus linked will do everything you need. If you aren't on Windows, let me know and I'll write up a guide to do it manually.

Just drag the image file into StereoPhoto Maker and go to File->Make Animation Gif. You might want to resize (Edit->Resize) the image first so it will display a little smoother.

As others have noted, the image you linked in OP has three frames (a left, center, and right) so it displays a little more smoothly. Unfortunately, your images are only stereo (left and right) so the appear a little jittery.

Additionally, "shallow" images such as the plate of food do not really appear 3D. Objects at mid to far range with a decent amount of depth will provide a better 3D effect. The image of the balancing rocks is a good example.

If you have any other questions or need help, don't hesitate to ask.

You said they were .jps in OP. Can you upload a file somewhere and I'll look at it and try to make a step-by-step guide for you.

Yeah, you can use Photoshop. Just open the image and crop out the left side and save it, then reopen the original and crop out the right side and save it.

According to Wikipedia a .jps is simply a double wide .jpg. So all you need to do is change the file extension and split the image into two then use any of a myriad of .gif creation tools.

I made a game based off of Google Images. What do you think? by makarioin Android

[–]Mattbot5000 1 point2 points ago*

I would recommend making the changes you mentioned for plurals regardless. I didn't run into any plural issues, but I would have been frustrated if I had.

As for whether you should provide the number of letters regardless of difficulty, I don't know. I can definitely see reasons for doing so.

Let me share my experience. When I was playing, I basically either knew it or didn't, there wasn't a whole lot of figuring out except in the challenge category. On the ones I didn't just know, having the number of letters might have helped me figure it out. Some may argue it would be too much help, though.

I don't want to encroach on your design, but here's a thought for difficulties:

Hard: No hints; the game in its current form

Normal: Number of words and number of letters in each word provided

Easy: Same as #2 but with a few letters given, perhaps the first letter of each word

EDIT: Caiyaden mentioned hints. I think this may actually be better suited as a hint system where you lose points for getting hints or something. That way, the player is rewarded for knowing it outright, but still has a chance to figure it out with some nudging.
