I am genuinely curious, in games like Magic: The Gathering, do you feel alternative methods of winning (such as milling, or a card saying you win outright) are cheap and/or abusing the system?

Wouldn't some people call that child pornography? IANAL, but I believe the all parties can be prosecuted, the receiver and the producer(or more likely in this case, the owner of the network, as it may not be easily proved that you had no knowledge of it.

OP, I commend you for trying to be subtle, but people get stupid really quickly about this area. I think it would be best to let her father know about it if he can be held legally responsible.

I'm right there with you in most clubs. The music they play is usually what's up in the charts, and is rarely dance-able. I'm perfectly happy sitting down and listening to the music.

However, if I hear some kind of "ballroom dance" music, you can bet I will be on the dance floor. Especially if it's Swing. That stuff is fun!

I agree. The movie as a whole failed, but oh my god those settings! Off the top of my head: * Zombie-steampunk-Krauts with zepplins and tri-planes galore * Demonic bigass samurai with a bigass minigun * Fantasy fortress under siege by orks complete with dragon and salvaged B-25 It's a shame it got bunched in with a lot of other useless crap in that movie though.

Also, seconding the soundtrack.

It is slower, but not negligable IIRC. It also works both ways (cold away/out of the sun, hot in the sun). But if we assume the space shuttle is a black body, the rate of heat transfer (loss) per unit area is q/A = σ T4. Assuming the shuttle starts at ambient temperature (T=300k), the rate of heat transfer is about 450 W/m^2. Note that this is per unit area. If the shuttle were to have the equivalent surface area of a 10x10x10 cube, the net rate of heat loss would be (initially) about 275kW. That's about enough heat loss to bring 0.5kg of water from boiling at STP to frozen per second. I've tried to be conservative with my numbers, but for a mission such as Apollo 11, where about 8 days were spent in space, each square meter of surface area would have radiated 311MW of energy, or about 700kg of water turned to ice from steam at STP. Again, that last number is per unit area (m^2). Granted, the rate will change as the temperature changes, but the difference between say 300K and 290K aren't very much, relatively speaking. But slower than convection and conduction? Absolutely. Negligable? Not at all.

Perhaps. It depends which theory of Physics is correct. In a linear timeline in which there is only one space-time continuum, timetravel is likely impossible because as you have noted, we would see it. However, theories such as M-World Interpretation does allow (though not prove) time travel.

Forces in general. Your plane is in a dive with 4 baddies on your tail. What do you do? Pull up at the last minute of course! Nevermind that your plane's wings will shear off when you hit Mach 1 (for older planes), or they'll deform plastically when you pull up. And that's assuming the pilot stays conscious while pulling a fuckton of G's.

Then there's the classic Superman catching Lois Lane as she falls. Bitch wouldn't know what hit her. In that vein, the fight scenes in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 drive me insane. When Tony falls during the Mk1 flight, he would be tenderized on both sides of his body and marinating from internal(and external) bleeding. In Iron Man 2, same thing. That suit might take some of the force, but you're still transmitting the forces through your body.

And finally, space. Space is fucking hot. It's fucking cold. It depends where you are. If you're out in the sun, you're going to get cooked unless you have some way to radiate heat/insulate yourself. If you're out in the shadow of the Earth (or somewhere else where the sunlight is blocked), you're going to initially be warm but lose energy fast(due to thermal radiation). And that's not getting into the scales involved in space travel and storage space for air(I'm looking at you, final fight in Green Lantern!)

I would imagine it would be used when you have extra computational power available and want to be ultra precise in your position(ditto snap, crackle, pop, lock, and drop). Instead of treating position as a polynomial with a power of t^2, you can treat it as a polynomial with t⁸ to make extremely accurate calculations.

However, practically speaking, there would be very little because the change of the change of the change of position over time is usually constant at about 0.

I am volunteering at the Tech Museum of Innovation, which is something of a museum showing kids different areas of science, and trying to get them interested in science/engineering/biology. I started as an exhibit explainer, but now I'm helping fix the exhibits when they break.

I am part of the Robotics Club on campus at SJSU, and we do a lot of outreach. Week before last, we worked with the Society of Women Engineers to get high school kids interested in engineering by demonstrating and explaining what university is like and how we got to where we currently are.

I'm also volunteering at my old high school's robotics club(BotBall). I did need to get fingerprinted for this, as well as get a TB test. But I just finished a workshop for it over the weekend. For this, I am more of a mentor, trying to help the kids troubleshoot their programs and design their robot.

Aren't gun owners arguing something similar in terms of weapons for defense? IIRC, their arguments were of the form:

Gun-possession restrictions have not kept illegal firearms off the streets(especially automatic and semi-automatic weapons) The police cutbacks are increasing police response time, allowing criminals more time to cause mayhem By owning a weapon, I can prevent the worst case scenario. (In this case, loss of life due to someone shooting into a crowd) Therefore, it is expedient to own a weapon to mitigate the effects of the worst-case scenario.

I don't on a gun, so I haven't kept up with this, other than what I hear on the news, but I can't seem to recall it going particularly well for them.

And barring that, how can you be sure that a politician (say governor, presidential candidate, or attorney general) seeking to stir up the pot won't enforce the law to rally support for them? Issues such as child sex have often transcended party lines, with neither side wanting to appear as "weak" on this issue.

Again, while I think this is a step in the right direction, there is too much potential for abuse for me to think that this is a good idea at the current time. But I will be keeping a close eye on it. I do think this is a good way of handling things though; let Massachusetts decide to try something, California may try something else, and we'll see how they work out.

The age of consent in Mass is 16. Would this not be facilitating rape, as a 12-15 year old is not able to consent to intercourse? Last time I checked, non-consensual intercourse (aka rape) was taken very seriously as a felony. By giving out condoms which could only be used to aid in a felony, would that nurse not be an accessory and/or accomplice to a felony? I am not a lawyer, but I believe aiding and abetting is currently a felony, punishable by 1+ years in prison.

While the idea is great, I think there are some rather large kinks to work out legally before anyone can give out any form of birth control to anyone below the age of consent.

But as far as I'm aware the people drinking it are purposely drinking it. It's not like they're handing out aids blankets, or walking around with small pox. If they know the risks and are still ok with consuming it, that is their choice and I can see no reason a third party should be able to forcibly interfere.

On the other side of the argument, if "public health policy" can justify outlawing/banning raw milk, then what of alcohol, soda, driving a car, or eating ramen, which all have possible detrimental (if not deadly) effects? Furthermore, what of drinking which I am led to believe kills a lot more than raw milk?
