Good on you, best of luck man!

How do i get out of the 160's? by cswa77in loseit

[–]Lusey 5 points6 points ago

Lower your calories a bit and track everything. Stick with the deficit and it will come down eventually. Make sure you're honest with yourself though and track everything, even if you cheat all weekend. Those calories still exist even if you choose to ignore them.

I know part of my problem breaking the 170 barrier has been I'm actually pretty comfortable with where I am, so it's easier to let myself go and eat poorly again.

Any idea how much I am 'supposed' to weight? by PlayFreebirdin loseit

[–]Lusey 4 points5 points ago

When you get close to the finish line throw numbers out of the window. Just like you, when I started I had a firm number that was the final goal. But as you get closer to that goal, you realize the number itself is meaningless.

Body fat % is a much better indicator. You need to determine where you want to be. 15% is a pretty healthy number, but if you are looking for abs/being cut, then you'll want to be closer to 10%.

It depends on your goals at this point, but I think you'd be better served forgetting about the exact number and tracking changes in the mirror. /r/fitness is a great resource if you haven't checked it out yet.

I understand the drastic desire to lose weight (I've lost 110 lbs in 10 months), but by using something like smoking to cure your appetite during this process seems counter-intuitive. I don't know, maybe you just have different goals. For me, I wanted to be healthier, and smoking is just moving your addiction to something else and not actually fixing anything.

Best of luck in keeping it off as you start to transition to eating actual meals and preparing food yourself (it's a lot harder when you have the element of choice back in play).

You look pretty lean already, I would guess you actually have a pretty low weight for your height. The problem you are talking is about is mainly being caused by a lack of muscle mass. I would check out /r/fitness. You won't magically be built by summer, but by mid summer you'll see a definite change in your composition.

I just can't stop eating by madeleine_albrightin loseit

This is a great post. I also can link my compulsive eating to carbs. It's easier for me to eat nothing at all than just a taste of something with carbs, since it lets off an uncontrollable chain of eating at that point. I still have my moments and eating insane amounts of food, but starting to realize what causes it has helped keep it in check.

Insanity will burn more calories, but it all comes back down to how much you eat. But Insanity will still help you burn more overall calories.

Hmm tough to answer. When I was doing P90x I definitely couldn't see any definition still since I was big, but I'm sure I got my baseline strength from there, and then SS helped to build off that progress into what's there now.

I'd let my clothes last as long as they could, then buy 1-2 new outfits (mainly work outfits), and let them last as long as they could... I basically wore clothes way too big for me for the last 10 months, but now I've invested in more clothes since I won't be changing as much anymore, and I think I saved a good amount of money doing that.

When I was doing P90X and P90X2 I was at home. For the last couple months I've been lifting weights at a gym, though.

I think the most important thing I've learned during all of this is just to listen to your body. There are times when I had it set that I'd be fasting for a day or two, only to realize my body wasn't having it and break it early to fuel up and recover. Being able to listen to my body and respond to it has helped me focus on the positive aspects of food and not the negative ones.

I guess technically I've been doing Practical Programming (2nd Ed) Novice Program from the Starting Strength Wiki, but subbing in pull ups and chin ups for deadlifts 2 days a week.

Workout A, 3x5 Squat, 3x5 Press, Pull ups/Chin ups

Workout B: 3x5 Squat, 3x5 Bench Press, 1x5 Deadlift

I've started experimenting though and mixing it up towards more of a hypertrophy directed workout by increasing reps to 10 and lowering weight a bit. I'll probably start doing more splits as I get closer to summer to start isolating the individual muscles a bit more.

I think I've experienced a wide range of emotions from my friends and family. In the beginning everyone was supportive. And everyone had positive comments. However, as the months passed and I was still losing (and you can't help but be excited and talk about your progress, and people continue asking how much you've lost, etc) I could tell it started to annoy some people. My parents are the most supportive, but people close to me like my siblings I can tell are upset/jealous at times, but I know they are still supportive in the long run. It's just not always easy watching your little brother stop being the heavy one in the family (while the others are still overweight), but at the same time I think it's motivated them which is great.

It's actually crazy. I still feel like I'm overweight. I can't compare myself to other people accurately, because I have a mental weight in my head that is a lot higher than what it actually is. I'm sure it drives my friends and family crazy, but unless you've lost weight like that it's hard to explain. Your brain has to catch up to your body, apparently.

It's a bit of extra loose skin, with some last stubborn pieces of fat, so it droops down a bit like that. If you compare it to my first picture, it's actually pretty impressive that it's the only part sagging now! I'm hoping that in a year or two of strength training it will tighten up, but if down the road it still doesn't go back to normal I may consider surgery.

There is still some fat attached to it, so I'll give it some time to heal up on it's own before I worry about it too much. I'm hoping the more I lift the better it will look.

I definitely will! To me, being able to complete things that would have been impossible before is the most exciting part of it all.

[–]Lusey[S] 5 points6 points ago

There is still some last bits of fat hanging around down there attached to the skin, which makes it look saggier. I'm going to give it a year or two and see if it tightens up on it's own first, then I might consider something down the road.

  1. I started with an iron gym pull up bar for my door frame (around 30 bucks I think) and some resistance bands (20 dollars or so on amazon). This will be more than enough to get you going, although eventually I did end up buying an adjustable dumbbell set later in my process.

  2. I find the best thing that keeps me from binge cravings is staying low-carb. So I'd have to say keto with some IF is my diet regimen of choice. I've associated most of my mental cravings for food with carbs. It seems just having one bagel is almost enough to set me off and then there is no stopping. So I try to prevent that from happening, which low-carb helps me do.

I didn't get these pictures taken until after Body Fat Friday, can anyone give me a rough estimate on what you think I'm at now? The extra skin probably makes it a little difficult.

Thanks!
