Wow, thanks for replying. Is your kitchen big enough to make a sizeable meal? Do you even have a kitchen?

Did any of you just agree to have kids because your partner wanted to, not because you did particularly? How did it turn out? by neverlaughatdragonsin AskReddit

That was a really good read, thanks for sharing. Glad things are working out better for you now. I like your parenting style even though I'm still in my mid twenties and don't have any kids.

How in the world are you secretly being racist when you do that?

you're not discriminating against anyone, you're just trying to identify common speech patterns among different segments of the population. The fact that many asian languages as tonal(mandarin, cantonese, thai...etc) or lack certain english sounds(phonemes?) might lead the person to have a slight yet distinct accent, especially if they weren't born in North America and/or depending upon their level of interaction with different sub groups of the population.

This, in no way, makes you racist, unless it's some faux-liberal-hipster bullshit.

Would you mind saying how much space you have in sq.ft. ? I'm considering a bachelor instead of 1BR and I'd like to know what it's like. Living in a 1BR I have a lot of unused space so I'd like to save a bit of money if I really don't need the extra space.

How bad is it to splice a coaxial cable? by LevantineKnightin electronics

Are unequal splitters clearly labeled as such or is it just marked on the label that the power output levels are different for each connector? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for with regards to output levels?

Thanks, I'll take a look around in the shops here and see what I can find.

There are no taps, just splices taped up with electrical tape. There is significant ghosting, some noise on some of the sets, and some waves running through the picture.

How can I find out what the modulator output level is and what would be considered too weak?

The installer didn't use taps, he simply spliced the cable and taped it up with electrical tape. There is significant ghosting and signal degradation evident on the TV's. The distance from the first TV to the last is about 25 meters.

It's the middle of the night here so the exact model and pics will have to wait, but I can tell you it's not a special set up. It's a bog standard set up for receiving a signal from Nilesat in the Middle East. I think a 1m dish.

It shouldn't matter though because I'm taking the composite video output from the satellite receiver(set-top box?) and passing that into the modulator. Shouldn't matter what kind of system I use, right? I'm a software dev so I'm quite clueless about this kind of stuff, so if I'm wrong forgive me.

In Chinese it means peaceful, and content, still, calm among many others in the same line of thought.

Update on the DIY concrete countertop with sink: by bokassain DIY

[–]LevantineKnight 6 points7 points ago

How does the surface of the countertop feel? I've only felt solid granite countertops and cheap vinyl, so on a scale of cheap vinyl to solid granite, what would you rank it as? I'm quite curious about this since it looks pretty nice.

TIL The Sahara is large enough to cover almost all of the United States. Its name means 'desert' in Arabic, so calling it the "Sahara Desert" would equate to calling it the "'Desert' Desert". by Player13in todayilearned

It's 'Shai' in Arabic, close but not exactly the same.

Unfortunately that doesn't work everywhere. Molten salt would work better but it completely bypasses solar PV.

Why are houses in NA built primarily with wood instead of concrete? by LevantineKnightin AskReddit

I can't tell if that's a brick and mortar house or brick facade. When I talked about concrete being used I meant they used rebar reinforcement and poured concrete. Only the very poorest houses use cinder blocks. Those poured concrete houses can take a massive beating as evidenced by buildings in Beirut and Baghdad.

True, which is why over here we put a white stone facade on all the buildings. You can put other types of stone as well but the law specifies that the majority must be white stone. S you can frame your entrance in pink stone for example. The stone is also chipped to create different patterns and designs.
