Actually, I much prefer the Gnome contacts UI over what we got in Lion.

Keep in mind that when you design a minimalist interface, they are inevitably going to start looking a bit similar.

And guess what? Nobody cares. I have never not once taken a single picture with the iPad. Even if it had the camera straight out of the iPhone 4, taking pictures with a tablet is just stupid.
