Hit up the AH. Search with buyout at $10k and +Dex... my 52 DH does >8000 dps and regular 17k crits.

My guess would be something to do with this film coming out next year.

Probably my favourite desk on this subreddit; great work! You've inspired my next project. Are you an engineer btw? Not many others know the joys of extruded aluminium...

Ergonomic advice: Mounting your monitors a big higher forces better posture. Are those arm rests adjustable? If not, is keyboard tray height?

We wouldn't need front roll bars if tyres in F1 were this well behaved. by iamwalshin formula1

You're trained to let go of the wheel so that it does not break your hands... yet every instinct is screaming at you to hold on and steer.

The autocross track in Michigan gets significantly less tight every year... doing the track walk this year made it apparent that they're pushing the aero stuff for some reason.

Had this very conversation with the Oxford Brooks advisor while there in Michigan... all in front of an angry German student heh.

Is anyone going to Mutek this year, and if so is anyone carpooling? by RedWing2001in montreal

[–]Le3f 1 point2 points ago

Carpooling from where?

Mutek is great; even better when you're within walking distance ;)

Looking good! Just got back from FSAE Michigan; see you guys there next year hopefully.

I saw him about a year ago in line at a Starbucks in Westmount... the juxtaposition was ironic.

I see this guy all the time by my place. He dresses like this everyday even in the winter. What is the deal? by SimplePhonicsin montreal

heh, I've seen him a few times while grocery shopping at that very same PA.

Electro-acoustical is also pretty interesting if you're a so called audiophile.

That's how inside jokes work...

Taken a system dynamics / signals class? Nope? Too bad because this is soooo funny! I'd explain, but it would take a few hours for you to understand. /smug-sarcasm

Why are all graphics cards upside down? by roguemenacein buildapc

[–]Le3f 2 points3 points ago*

The proper thermal argument to make is that having the GPU fan immediately next to the CPU's heat-sink will, through simple forced-convection - draw slightly warmer air in to cool the GPU than if the PCB was providing some degree of airflow separation between the two respective piping-hot heat-sinks.

Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ Suspension Differences, What's The Implication? by Kroofin Autos

[–]Le3f 3 points4 points ago

a touch more active and its transitions happen quicker than the Subaru's

For those of you reading this, don't take this to mean quicker through the corners ;)

Take the example of toe in vs toe out: toe in will feel "quicker", as on turn in you'll have an initially higher gain in yaw moment control (hence higher yaw acceleration), yet your system will reach equilibrium slower than if you were to gradually work your way up your force curve with an initially lower slip angle (toe out). Steady state dominates time wise, and setting up that steady state (hence a good turn in) is what's important.

Has Toyota simply tuned the transient roll response to be more "fun" for the guy working for the car magazine? ...probably better for sales considering the market for this car.

RAW vs. JPG. For the newbies, please pay attention. This convinced me to change, regarding the situation I was shooting in. by Pcurrencyin photography

[–]Le3f 18 points19 points ago

So you want your RAW's to look like your JPEGs?

Shoot in RAW, import into Lightroom and apply the calibration "Camera Standard" (or portrait etc) right on import to the whole batch and bam, JPEG looking baseline to work from with RAW flexibility.

Incoming American engineering student here. I've got a weird question. by beret_guyin mcgill

[–]Le3f 1 point2 points ago*

They're all crooks, and all plans boil down to the same thing.

The big 3 offer slightly more expensive plans, with a more up to date line-up of phones. The smaller guys - which they all own - have slightly better rates and customer reviews (but not by much). Here's a breakdown:

  • Rogers (owns Fido)

  • Bell (owns Virgin Mobile + Solo)

  • Telus (owns Koodo)

The main difference between here and the US is that we get absolutely raped for data; If you're paying $35 for all your phone services, expect to pay double if you want a paltry 1-3 GB of data. Stick to McGill/home Wifi and you really don't need it at least.

What would an F1 car look like if there were no restrictions on development? by RockOnSeanin formula1

[–]Le3f 2 points3 points ago

I wouldn't mind if the public had a better idea who is and isn't an engineer, though.

This is mainly what I was getting at... as a collective whole we have terrible marketing; most kids don't learn what an engineer is until university.

With regard to semantics, I'm not terribly familiar with actual F1 subteam structure, but I would bet the guy designing the wheel fairing refers to himself as an aero specialist rather than a designer.

I'm not surprised... Having seen a few different 17 year old kids drive their R32's around the boring Quebec suburb I grew up in... ouf.

[–]Le3f 5 points6 points ago

We've come an extremely long way since the 1970's...

The complexity of a ground effect system like this is relatively simple (especially compared to something like KERS); hell the teams would probably even have time to manufacture their own mini gas turbine engines.

[–]Le3f 5 points6 points ago

Why minus the fan part? The immense gain in low/medium speed cornering is entirely due to this.

Coincidentally I just had this conversation with a friend over supper, while he was taking a break from fitting force vs slip angle curves to his tire data...

Toe in: high gain of yaw moment control, which leads to an initially higher yaw acceleration (hence "quicker" feel)... yet your system will reach equilibrium slower.
