Attractive Guy Girl Advice by awesemoin AdviceAnimals

Holy Shit! This is the closest thing to a "Forever Alone" manifesto that I have ever seen.

My Mom: "Cameron, don't be ridiculous, you can't put those huge speakers in your room". My room is 10x12. by Timmmmehin audiophile

[–]L8sho 1 point2 points ago

Don't send your mom my way. I've got speakers that are bigger than that stacked on top of other larger speakers.

Yeah, as much as I love my horn driver children, I would never use them as monitors for production work as I do realize that they do lend distinct coloration. I haven't worked in that field in years, but I've always drawn a line between what system I want for production vs. reproduction.

While I didn't expect you to name another competitive horn based speaker, in some ways, I was hoping you would prove me wrong by coming up with some obscure maker that I was not familiar with (and could afford).

Also, be aware that the reason they brought back many of the heritage designs was due to popular demand, as the heritage models had been phased out of production (which is where the "heritage" moniker came into play, think Coke Classic). To many of us horn fans, a majority of dome tweeters (and cone mids) sound dull and electrostatics can create undesirable dipolar imaging problems (as well as shitty off axis listening).

Understand, when people come to me asking for speaker recommendations, I generally bring up the exact brands that you mentioned above if the buyer likes that type of sound. On the other hand, some people just love horns, and if someone wants a truck, I won't try to sell them a motorcycle. Goldngod did mention that he really liked the Klipsch that he heard. To push him towards speakers of a totally different design philosophy without him listening to them could be considered a bit irresponsible. The correct answer for him is to get out and listen to as many models as he can. At a minimum, he should at least know the type of sound he likes before anyone shoves anything down his throat or tells him that his taste is wrong.

On the other hand, some people like Bose, and may god have mercy on their clueless souls.

What is a better horn based speaker at a similar price point?

I would definitely suggest another direction. I had that bow and it was freaking huge by today's standards. It was very awkward to deal with in tree stands and ground blinds.

Going deer hunting with my father-in-law, With a rifle I am not familiar with... actually... I am not familiar with deer hinting in general. many questions. by explosivoisgood2goin Hunting

[–]L8sho 2 points3 points ago

I mean no offense to you personally, but your FIL is a moron for putting you or anyone else in this position. It's not only rude, but it's potentially unsafe and inhumane.

My only advice is: range time, range time, range time. If you don't feel good about the shot, don't take it.

I'm thinking of buying a 1993 Gambler Intimidator Bass boat. $8000. Good Deal? by neotheismin Fishing

The value of a small craft is linked directly to the motor, as that is primarily what you are buying in a used boat. No problem skiing with any traditional bass boat.

Anyone use 7.62x39 for deer out there? Would a 154gr soft point bring down a whitetail at ~100 yards out of a 20" SKS? by confuzedcanuckin Hunting

[–]L8sho 1 point2 points ago

We have one particular guest hunter out once a year on our place to fill up his freezer. He helps us keep the doe population in check. He does also kill the occasional buck. He has killed probably 25-30 on our place in the last decade with a AK clone with single shots @ about 75 yards. This is with hollow points. It seems to kill them just as dead as any of our big rifles.

In my part of the country, single shot .223's have become the starter rifle of choice for children, so a 7.62x39 is not shunned much. I started my whitetail career with a .243 and 30 years later it is our most popular "guest" and "kid" rifle.

Best choice for 72"+ screen? DLP, Projection, other? by PootenRumblein hometheater

[–]L8sho 0 points1 point ago

A coworker of mine has the 82 inch Mitsu. It looks great on HD material but looks absolutely terrible on SD. I know to expect this on a projection model, as I have a 57 inch Hitatchi, but his looks really bad.

The other thing that I notice is that when he plays Xbox on it, it makes you feel oddly nauseated to watch. I wondered if the person playing felt the same, and he said it did, but didn't let on to how bad it was.

Before I saw his, I was considering going with the 92 inch as an alternative to front projection. Please do yourself a favor and see one in person before ordering.

HDMI over Coax...anyone doing it? by Esquire99in hometheater

[–]L8sho 1 point2 points ago

Have you pulled on the coax cable to determine whether it was stapled down inside the wall when it was installed? It may be as simple as taping the end of an HDMI to the end of the coax and pulling it through. If you go slow and you find yourself stuck, you can always pull it back to where it was. To cable installers this is known as "piggybacking".

Good ol' natural sandblasting plus saline soak. I would rather try this route than buy some sort of "cide" at a pharmacy or some drug that I take internally. I suspect that your little Jaunt did something to make the environment inhospitable to the fungus. Do any of you bio majors have any input?

If you could go back to when you first started fishing and give yourself one tip, what would it be? by victoriar531in Fishing

[–]L8sho 0 points1 point ago*

Fishing success is about frequency and variation until you find the right combination. Time spent changing over to the next "miracle" lure is time that could have been spent casting at a different spot or using a different retrieval angle / presentation. Learn a basic set of lures that are successful in your fishing area and stick with them. Persistence is key.

I have been fishing for 30 years and my father has been fishing for almost 70 years (with the opportunity to go pro in the 70's/'80's). We have tried every new product and lure to come down the pike over the years, but we always go back to a core group of about 10 lures / color combos. These work not only in our local fishing area, but in our entire region of the US.

"Can't you just connect the secure network and public network with a switch?" by matchtastein talesfromtechsupport

[–]L8sho 0 points1 point ago

This is not only stupid, but it is in violation of PCI/DSS rules if the secure network is used for credit card processing. They can be fined thousands of dollars if they get audited.

Problem with Pioneer receiver by spookyorwhatin hometheater

[–]L8sho 2 points3 points ago

I had a 1021-k that did something similar. As a word of caution: I was about to send mine to the closest service center (100 miles away) and I decided to call them first. It turns out that they hadn't repaired Pioneer AVR's in almost 10 years. I bribed Best Buy into taking it back out of warranty by buying another TV for my bedroom. I traded the Pioneer in for a Yamaha rx-671 and haven't looked back. I did like the warm sound of the Pioneer though, as I run Klipsch speakers.

They're gonna run out of ideas sooner or later... Why not choose mine? by AJC95in gaming

[–]L8sho 0 points1 point ago

It wouldn't fit with the game play of Modern Warfare that well, but if you played the missions in the first two CODs, it seems very feasible. Imagine that those long sniper shots that are in most of the missions instead involved shooting a Union general behind enemy lines while being fired on by the whole opposing force. I can totally see it.

That would be cool, but I would rather see Call of Duty: Civil Warfare first.
