NYR Mark Messier 18yr Anniversary. Pretty cool (unlikely to repeat, but still cool) by pnnm0077in hockey

[–]Kaysauce 1 point2 points ago

Lazy, uncreative writers looking to shoe-horn their narrative might do that. It's the same people that will ask a pointed or leading question to someone that's down after a loss...every reporter talking to Bryzgalov around the Winter Classic comes to mind.

Does New Jersey's Playoff Run Drastically Affect the Parise Sweepstakes? by theleaferfanin hockey

[–]Kaysauce 1 point2 points ago

I would go so far as to say that with Marty out and Clemmensen/Weekes in, Brent Sutter took the Devils from a defense-first team to playing firewagon hockey. They adopted the mentality that we need to win games even if we can't keep the puck out of our net and a good way to do it is fill the other team's goal the hell up with rubber.

The real key during that time without Marty is that Zach had his career best year offensively. He scored 45 goals and 94 points, came in third (IIRC) in the race for the Rocket Richard Trophy. I believe that without Marty and without a complete reliance on a system that affords Marty the ability to stay competitive, Deboer has the system in place to let the Devils play some high flying yet responsible hockey. I just hope Zach can see it the same way.

As someone who can't view YouTube content while at work, I would like to thank you for sharing this GIF. However I outed myself as screwing around when I gasped really loudly because of Kopitar's disgusting handle on that puck, and yelled "Whaaaaaa?" like I was watching an And 1 Mixtape game of streetball when Smitty made that tremendous save.

Pierre McGuire by dedtiredin hockey

[–]Kaysauce -4 points-3 points ago

Doc Emrick is the best announcer in the game for my money aside from MAYBE one guy from TSN whose name I can't remember (plus I'm at work and not going to look it up). So if that's a dig at Mr. Emrick, I shant sit idly by and let you sully his good name.

If you're going there, everyone has phrases they use a lot, Doc's stick out because he's unique but his reuse is no different than every other announcer working today.

Pierre McGuire by dedtiredin hockey

[–]Kaysauce 14 points15 points ago

Before trashing him, let me establish that he used to be remarkably worse than he is now. At least when announcing games on NBC and (then) Versus, he would plow right over whatever Doc Emrick was saying to scream like a school girl about some open ice almost-check that amounted to nothing. This would probably happen twenty to thirty times a broadcast and it became grating after a while.

Nowadays frankly I don't dislike what Pierre adds. It's like having Wikipedia mic'd up between the benches; he knows every person's hockey history from the time they were 4 and does a decent, non-shoehorn job of trying to inform the viewership. However I do feel that having an announcer, a color guy, AND Pierre is a bit much. I enjoy perspective as much as the next person but too many cooks spoil my hockey viewing enjoyment. Additionally during the Devils/Flyers series, NBCSports was employing Kenny Albert who was beyond terrible, and Pierre was really the only listenable thing on the TV every single game of that series.

I sincerely hope that if Ryan Callahan repeats his performance late in the third tonight and sits on the puck on the boards, someone cross checks him in the back of the neck. I'm going to spit on any of my Ranger fan friends the next time I hear him say he's a great player and a worthwhile leader. I'm fat like a planet and I can sit on a puck, where's my fucking C, huh?

lord canley cup by revelry14in hockey

[–]Kaysauce 0 points1 point ago

That's the closest thing to a Cup you'll see in Philly anytime soon... I know I'm just rubbing it in but the Devils forecheck is nothing short of absurd and the Flyers are dealing with it rather poorly.

Tried r/gaming with no luck. Maybe you might be able to help? by CoMaBlaCKin hockey

[–]Kaysauce 0 points1 point ago

Honestly you'll probably have to sit yourself down and sift through hockey-reference or NHL.com and find team rosters yourself and do a new manual roster (if it was even available back in '08, picked up the series again with '10 after a 14 year hiatus). Even then you'll have missing players and god knows people will have shifted ratings up and down.

Very quickly I found an apparently long series of videos starting here with player ratings from NHL12. It doesn't even go into individual numbers, just overall score. The efforts involved in bringing your antique roster to a full update seem pretty damn massive.

I know it's moronic but if you need a fix, rent NHL11 or 12 in some capacity. Your local GameStop has return policies that absolutely promote you taking home a used copy of a game with the ability to return it played. If your local brick and mortar GS says they have a copy online, grab the game, play it for a week to tide you over, and return it. Hell, if the store manager isn't a total dick, you might be able to come in and return/rebuy it every couple days until NHL 13 comes out. You'll have to float some money in the interim but hey, it's better than being stuck with a game where you could face Dominic Hasek in net. I'd rather see James Reimer but that's just me...

Scott Hartnell trolls Pierre McGuire by StrngBrewin hockey

[–]Kaysauce 47 points48 points ago

A couple years ago I only knew Scott Hartnell by his on-ice behavior, which was usually on the line and rough (always directed at my team, of course) so I hated him. I went as far as chirping him during warm-ups of a game that I got tickets in the lower bowl and I called him a no-talent dirty ginger. He stared me in the eyes and I shit my pants but it was cool at the time.

After watching 24/7 and seeing his passion up close, watching his game a little more closely and watching him have a career year, then hearing him tell Dion Phaneuf to suck it during the All Star game, then catching this during the broadcast today...jesus christ I love this guy, even if he's a member of the Flyers. Maybe I'm just maturing as a hockey fan but I don't have a blanketed hatred for players based on what team they're on anymore. I hate that they're beating me but look at it as if they got traded to my team tomorrow, would I enjoy their team contributions? I would kill a thousand midget babies with my bare hands for Giroux, and a couple hundred for Hartnell and Briere too.

PLAYOFF GAME THREAD: EQF; New Jersey Devils (#6) vs Florida Panthers (#3) Game #5 (6:30 ET) by seKer82in hockey

[–]Kaysauce 0 points1 point ago

It's not just Marty, and it never has been...I've never understood this argument. The trapezoid is still in place for moments like tonight; with the game being sped up to plaid, there's simply no reason for Marty to want to make the first pass out of the zone constantly. His defensemen can throw the puck up the ice just as reliably from goal line to opposing blue line without the play being whistled dead and that happens 20+ times a game from each side. Especially considering his reactions and athleticism aren't what they were even a decade ago, Marty should be staying in the paint where he can stop the easy biscuits with everyone in front of him acting like there's a black hole in the slot to counterbalance the humiliating pile of shit that's between their pipes now by orders of their GM.

Why are people so picky about their motherboards? by neveroddorevenin hardware

[–]Kaysauce 3 points4 points ago

Personally I look for one thing in a motherboard and that's reliability. Having built a large handful of computers for myself, my family, and friends I've had a surprising number of motherboards end up DOA or die on me after only a couple months of proper usage. The last thing I want to replace on a tower I've built is the motherboard because EVERYTHING has to come out. GPU, add-in cards of all kinds, power plugs running into and over top of the motherboard, CPU cooler and the CPU itself...then repeat the process with a new coat of thermal paste on the processor. I'm not huge into building expensive gaming rigs or anything like that but there's certainly brands I'll stay away from because of shitty experiences with dead parts and manufacturer support for RMAs.
