Adult Swim just announced that Toonami is returning May 26, 2012. What shows do you think they should air? by billybobskcorin AskReddit

I recently rewatched Gundam Wing Zero on CR out of nostalgia. My god, did I not realize how bad it was is as a child.

I'm 18 and I want to freelance - my biggest concern is that clients may not treat me seriously due to my age. by vineavipin web_design

[–]JonDum 0 points1 point ago

Hello, I thought I'd like to pitch in. I'm 20 now, but I've been freelancing since I was 16 and have had several dozen clients in the interim. I've slowly become comfortable enough with my own expertise that I can charge a normal rate for someone with my experience and not feel guilty about it. At first, I never even mentioned my age unless they asked (most people never did). Surely, after Skype conferences my clients knew I was young but it never had any effect on our professional relationship; they based their opinion on my expertise from the work I did and not my age.

So my advice? Don't tell them unless they are curious. Most of the time there will be no harm done.

Upon my Dad's friend letting me use his 25 monitor computer setup, I knew there was only one thing to do. by PdoXSCin starcraft

I ran the numbers. Pi is a tiny single core 700mhz ARM 11. From Raspberry's site, the Pi is capable of 1.5 Gigatexels/sec at a price point of $35. In comparison, an Nvidia GTX 680 is capable of 128.8 Gigatexels/sec at a price point of $499. So it would take over $3,000 of Pis to reach theoretically match a modern day graphics card in video performance. This does not include other performance factors like clocks, memory bandwith, floating point performance.

There would also be an insane amount of overhead to sync and utilize all the nodes (Crossfire and SLI both drop down to around ~30% efficiency after the second card in the array), and millions of dollars of research to even get the cluster to run Windows or DirectX (which is required for a large amount of games).

tl;dr this idea is fantastical.

What is EC2 and how can a computer science student benefit from it? by prezjordanin AskComputerScience

[–]JonDum 3 points4 points ago

I can tell you twitch when ever someone uses the phrase 'cloud computing'. I think you're being overly technical when 'virtual server hosting' is just the precursor the result of 'cloud computing system'. I didn't say it was magical, but EC2 makes it a hell of a lot easier.

What is EC2 and how can a computer science student benefit from it? by prezjordanin AskComputerScience

[–]JonDum 3 points4 points ago

If by EC2, you are referring to Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute, then I can explain.

Essentially, EC2 is a cloud computing system that allows anyone to sign up and spool virtualized machines as needed. You can do whatever you would like with these machines (within their ToS), but most people will do things like running their server software: Apache, PHP, MySql, Node, Mongo, etc.

What makes EC2 so neat is that it can scale up to fit increases in your demand without you having to buy new hardware, go out to your datacenter, and install it.

That is awesome. I'm very impressed. Yes, surely some computes/tessellation capabilities would have made this a lot easier.

Is this just a shader or is it actually modifying the mesh? I'm hoping it would modify the mesh being a part of your morph suite.

Wrong. It still requires it for you to play and it steathily installs that crapware when you install it through Steam.

Rule of thumb:

  • Angular : Manly
  • Curvy : Feminine

Of course it's not that black & white, but this pair definitely leans more towards the curvy side.
