Experimental Kata BE Routes by guvnaain Tribes

I agree that rage could use an upgrade. The extra regen is pretty rarely what you would actually need when chasing though.

What does Reddit think about a CTF mode with one flag? by cleptin Tribes

I just want to see 16 player max (8v8) CTF games. People will HAVE to focus on the flag then.

Points for destroying deployables? by FpsJackin Tribes

[–]JoeThankYou 0 points1 point ago

I have, and they've lasted much longer than I've expected. If you're placing turrets near the flag stand, a half decent offense on the other team should have them cleared every minute or two, less if you're playing 16v16. I've played games as TCN and my turrets have lasted most of the game.

Seriously need help with SMG type weapons. by DarkValkyriein Tribes

I'm set at 120 FOV right now, because I like seeing the field more. For those of you who are good at automatics, what FOV do you use? I just want to get some perspective on what is "normal".

Infiltrator, Raider, and Brute by Thunderkleizein Tribes

[–]JoeThankYou 0 points1 point ago*

Currently, I see almost no reason to ever play brute instead of raider of juggernaut. I feel like the juggernaut is clearly better at being a constant presence around the enemy flag, especially with his quick health regen. Also, the raider is clearly better at dueling all of the light defense that try to retake the enemy's base. The ONLY thing that the brute has to his advantage is the fractal grenade, which is really only superior to the raider's EMP grenade in very few situations, usually inside small bases. Also, the utility of camping in the opponents gen room is pretty questionable, especially at a competitive level.

I don't think that the brute has a clearly defined role, much like the soldier. It's not necessarily a bad thing that the soldier isn't clearly better at any one thing, however he's DECENT at basically everything. If you want a class that's good at switching roles quickly to go where's he's needed, the soldier can be effective, and get across the map quickly and do that role well. If you want to call "all around flexible quick response team" a role, that's what the soldier is.

The brute however can't. He can't get across the map as quickly, nor is he even comparably good at doing any of the tasks he would be required to do as a "jack of all trades" heavy offense kind of class.

In my opinion, the only good role that the brute can do effectively and somewhat uniquely is exactly what you said, being a constant presence on offense. This is pretty similar to the raider, except less mobile, more resilient, and worse at dueling. If I were on the design team, I would make a new primary weapon for the brute that is more of a short to midrange MIRV launcher or a heavy grenade launcher. This, displacing the spinfusor, would make the brute hopelessly immobile, however would make him much more effective at area control inside bases and near the enemy flagstand.

Why are there no accolades for destroying deployables? by yawnsesin Tribes

I think it should give you credits, but something small like +25 for each. Kinda like base repair.

EDIT:

Interesting thought: I clear mines and claymores all the time with my face as a raider. Should I get points for that?

Priority Unlocks for Pathfinder? by Gavo265in Tribes

reach is definitely preferred for most cappers, but I actually run safety third for my PTH because I switch a lot between capper and chaser. I like having the extra nitron for getting around faster, and the 10% increased radius on my nitrons really helps with chasing.

Why does Forbes.com insist on making its font to huge? I feel like it's either a site designed for old people who can't see well, or for 10 year olds who read slowly and a lot of small text scares them.

so do Nikes, but people never say that basketball is pay-to-win. I would agree that it would be pay-to-win if nobody at a competitive level ever used any of the weapons that you get for free. However, if you want to be a good cappper, you don't need much to get a PTH to the level that a lot of pros use. The game isn't very unbalanced towards new players with nothing unlocked. Most of it has to do with player skill.

Also, think of it this way. Lets say for example HiRez didn't put the game up free to play, and that you had to buy at least the $10 gold bundle for each new class you wanted to play. You can buy the INF weapon bundle, and basically be up and running with everything in a few sessions to max out the upgrades for that class. This seems pretty reasonable. It's only 10 bucks, and that's all you NEED to play one class with exactly the loadout you want.

Would we consider it pay-to-win in this case? No, because you basically have to buy the stuff anyway. The only difference in the actual case is that HiRez gives you the option of waiting a little while longer and working for XP rather than spend any real money.

Also, it's not like HiRez is asking you to pay a shitload of money. If you've spent 20 hours playing this game and you can't afford to shell out 10 bucks to get VIP and actually pay for the game, you need to get a job. If you spent half of that time at a minimum wage job, you'd be able to unlock basically anything you would want.
