Downhill experts, I could use your advice on a bike purchase (Kona Stab Deluxe 06') by MBSquaredin MTB

If there is absolutely no scratches on it. Wheels look straight, brake pads aren't worn, grips aren't worn, maybe a grand. The bike is a tank and you can get a 2010 in the link above for $500 more... If the guy is the first owner and has only ridden it 5 times, it'll need a fresh bleed on the brakes, new oil in the fork, shock needs a re-bleed since its been sitting so long. Easy 100 to 200 haggle room.

My friends did 10k feet down. I was perma-shuttle driver since I ripped sidewall first run. No idea why I ran single-ply. I knew I was going to rip it half, and sure enough I did.

Who says 29'ers don't work on the Shore? by pedalhoundin MTB

[–]JoeBMX 1 point2 points ago*

Gyroscopic forces. You cant lean those bitches over, but it's okay, majority of bandwagon hoppers can't ride anyways. 29er is a band-aid for lack of riding ability. Also another standard manufacturers are shoving down our throats and we're all taking it just fine. 26" wheels get destroyed enough as it is. To make a 29" rim as strong as a 26", its going to weigh a fuck ton. Thus more rotating weight and less ease to lean the stupid thing over.

Drivetrain? by KonaClumpin MTB

[–]JoeBMX -1 points0 points ago*

DH bike? Always shortcage, always Saint. I love the shift feel of Sram, but the Japanese sure do know how to make really high quality parts with Shimano, and the Saint tucks up a lot nicer than Sram does, thus less money spent on replacing rock destroyed derailleurs in the long run. You won't be able to run that Sram cassette with Shimano derailleurs, though.

Little do you know, we all drive our bikes to the trailhead. So bassackwards.. In this case 40 hours spent in a car to ride bikes... and all the bikes on the back of that tailgate probably add up to more than your car.

Lefty Forks - clearing up some confusion by klonkin MTB

Lefty Forks - clearing up some confusion by klonkin MTB

[–]JoeBMX 12 points13 points ago

Couple things: 1. The normal fork is lower. He has a ton more leverage that he puts all his weight into and bounces on, the lefty that is at his chest. When he's twisting, there isn't even body weight on the wheel. 2. That lefty has what, 80mm of travel? The fork their comparing it to looks like a long travel (for a 32mm) 32mm fork. I'd love to see them try this gimmick with a 150mm lefty (does that even exist?) Or a 32mm fork dropped to 80mm with plenty of bushing overlap. 3. Any demo put on by a company who has their own money at stake should be taken with several truck loads worth of salt. These guys are no different than the slide of hand a door to door knife salesmen uses.

Bay Area gear heads (Cruises and Autox) by williamiswhitein bayarea

[–]JoeBMX 1 point2 points ago

I feel like AutoX is just a cock tease. Don't get in nearly enough driving. HPDE is where it's at. Turbo Cobalt here, also regularly spirited drive in the East Bay.

What kind of pedals/shoes are you running? Wont slip pedals if you've got grippy rubber.
