NASA aims for human rendezvous at Mars in 2033 by PopularScyencein politics

Yes, there's 6 presidential elections between now and 2033. That's anywhere between 3 and 6 different administrations after this one whose policies could end that.

Not according to Blizzard:

Not saying that Blizzard is certainly at fault but that argument doesn't gain much traction when there is a security flaw and "According to Apple it doesn't exist" or "Microsoft claims it isn't an issue".

Act 4 seemed incredibly short for me.

I know part of it was because I solo'd the first 3 acts while trying to explore everything while Act IV was when my friend caught up to where I was and we rushed through the act in about 20 minutes.

But even then the number of quests was much shorter and the content was not as much.

Oh god I deal with this at work when helping people who can't read the instructions for getting online.

One of the steps involves installing the NAC's software. THERE ARE TWO FUCKING OPTIONS ON WINDOWS 'INSTALL' OR 'CANCEL'. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU CLICK?

Then again, that happens a lot. People come in for an installation and never seem to get to click "Next" during the installation dialog when the only options are "back', 'next', 'cancel'.

The Hell level of this is when they are all smoking and walking into the wind.

Very difficult to get around them and you get to inhale and smell their smoke the entire time.

I love doing it when walking to work after class. Nothing brightens up my day like walking into work smelling like 3 chick's cigs.

Yes, it's a measure to prevent people from going to foreign countries and fucking 12 or 13 year olds simply because it's legal there.

Pretty sure it's related to child prostitution which is supported by that practice.

What minimum wage buys, then and now: 56 hours paid the rent in 1950, 109 hours paid the rent in 2010 by ratjeain politics

[–]JMV290 2 points3 points ago

Yes, but for all intents and purposes let's pretend it's an absolutely shitty minimum wage job that starts or gets out after the T stops running so it's not an option.

However, Boston probably isn't a good example because I can't fathom too many minimum wage jobs existing in Boston itself because

a.) People who live in Boston would, in no way, work for Minimum wage when paying 2k+ for even a studio apartment.

b.) A majority of people aren't going to commute for minimum wage when they can work for minimum wage in their own city or a city or two away.

I do live in Lynn :(. I work in Salem. It's about 13 miles from here to Boston.

And yes, you'd most likely be able to find a minimum wage job within the city or at one of the malls which is either a bus ride or a 9 mile trip at most. It's about 18 miles to the North Shore Mall and back for me.

Using a city MPG of 18 (Camrys from the 90s seem to range from 16-20 MPG city), on a 16 gallon tank gives 288 miles on a full tank. One 8th of that is 36 Miles. I live have a 3 mile drive to work so that's not bad for me but even if someone drove from where I work (Salem) into Boston that would be only 15 or so miles.

It's about 36 miles to get from the MA/NH border (Haverhill) to Boston. To drive that far, one way, for a minimum wage job would be fucking terrible. :(

Doctor here, this is actually not important. Most patients asked about inherited conditions have no idea what that means/how to ask their parents/or just aren't in contact with their biological parents. We always ask, but a negative response never affects management of whatever the issue is.

I'm not a doctor but I know this because of a situation with my girlfriend. She has hyperthyroidism and she was hospitalized for it a few years ago before they knew what was wrong with her. Her mother couldn't answer questions about family medical history because her parents were killed in Cambodia when she was young.

Saying "yes" to a condition in family history certainly makes it more likely but saying "no" or "I don't know" doesn't make the doctor consider it as a possibility less than he or she would have previously.

i dunno. I haven't owned an iPhone in about 3 years and haven't followed the jailbreaking scene since I've had no reason to.

I was just pointing out the silliness of attacking iOS for lacking a feature (without a jailbreak) that really doesn't work on Android until you root it.

Using Last.fm API by perseus0807in androiddev

[–]JMV290 1 point2 points ago

I've written things using PHP and Python using last.fm's api. One thing to watch out for is last.fm releasing updates which usually seem to end up breaking some piece of the API. I don't think there has been anything major recently though. I don't remember if the last update was before or after the API you linked to was last updated (December 2010)

Is it crashing without even calling anything? Crashing with certain methods being called?

Don't you need to root the phone to install apps like that? All the ones I've found require root for network spoofing.

In which case, you could Jailbreak an iPhone and do something similar if someone has coded up the app.

I HATE the new Droid Razr commercial with the Mother and Daughter. Reddit, what commercial (part or present) makes you change the channel every time? by dbtennis13in AskReddit

[–]JMV290 9 points10 points ago

Oh god lol. Do I really have to explain it that in depth so SRS doesn't get pissy?

The comment wasn't intended to be sexist, misogynist, or demeaning to women. The statement "She'd have a point..." was referring to my agreement that female athletes are often looked at as sexual objects (see: tennis players) in ways that male counterparts are not. Speaking out against that is something that should be supported.

However, Danica Patrick is sponsored by GoDaddy and makes money by starring in commercials that rely on sexual content involving her breasts falling out of her shirt and such. She is receiving money for promoting the image of her self in a sexual way. To get upset about that while making money off of encouraging it is a bit silly.

If someone like Anna Kournikova or Venus Williams made a similar comment they'd be spot on and be right to be upset. They don't use their bodies in a sexual way intended to market something towards the "horny men". Kournikova does use her body for an ad but it's not intended to be sexual and it's aimed towards women.

My comment was directly related to Danica Patrick's job for GoDaddy involving sexuality yet she gets upset for being referred to in a sexual light. Leave it to SRS to take it out of context and view it as a comment implying women should be viewed sexually rather than how it was intended to be specifically about Danica Patrick.

also they got a screenshot of my typo saying "actor" instead of "anchor" before I fixed it. :(

The weight watchers commercials with Jennifer Hudson singing.

The one with her singing with her former, heavier self in particular. It's just weird and the singing is off.

My favorite thing about this is Danica Patrick got pissy over a sports anchor saying she was sexy.

She'd have a point if she didn't do the commercials for GoDaddy...

AT&T CEO blames Google for slow Android updates, Google fires back by TomCorbettin technology

[–]JMV290 2 points3 points ago

I do think Google does hold some blame due to its release cycles.

When you have vendors like Samsung taking their time to port their shitty UI to phones already on the market, Google releasing 2 or 3 new versions of Android in a year does little to encourage older phones from getting support. Is the vendor really going to take the time to release an update for a phone if Google is going to render the software obsolete within 6 months?

Vendors need to stop being lazy, carriers need to stop bundling so much bloatware, and Google needs to take steps to prevent market fragmentation instead of just banging out new versions more than once per year.

The average end user will not want to root their phone or install CM9 or whatever and is not a suggestion that should just be thrown out as remedy.
