TROPHY CASE

Running in the mornings? by lb9715in running

[–]JCollierDavis 0 points1 point ago

When I was in the Army, we ran first thing in the morning. I usually would eat most of a Cliff bar and drink some water before. Then I'd get home and have an omelet, toast, OJ and cereal.

Now I run after work. I usually drink water throughout the day and have a snack about an hour before I leave.

On my long run Saturday, I have two pieces of toast with jelly and some water about 45 mins before.

I've worn Mizuno for about 7 years now. Completely worth it.

Ladies! I discovered a life-changing sports bra. It's seriously the best one I've worn in my entire life. by cocodeezin running

Bought a whole bunch in 2005 before deploying. They're still going strong to the day. My wife won't let me wear them anymore though, she doesn't think Army Brown is all that sexy.

Still the most comfortable underwear I've ever worn.

I dont even have the strength to lie and pretend to smile and say everything is fine anymore...Things just seem to get worse. When does it get better? by mattaxtenin AskReddit

[–]JCollierDavis 5 points6 points ago

Do not kill yourself.

I know it sucks, I've lost a long term girlfriend before too. The worst feeling is when the people you'd seek for comfort from this situation are the people causing the situation. I know it can be so miserable. You've built a life around her and it's so hard to realize what's left.

It sucks, but the best you can do is focus on something to keep your mind occupied and just go day-to-day until it's better. Don't sit around being miserable. Go do something. It's a great time to take up running or another exercise.

TIL that a media monopoly is why radio stations play the same songs on repeat, not because they are requested. by fuckbitcheseatcakein todayilearned

[–]JCollierDavis 7 points8 points ago

Radio stations don't really play requests. Usually what happens is someone requests the song they were going to play anyway.

About a week in advance, they develop a playlist for the whole day. There are three categories of songs, High, Medium and Low rotation. The High rotation songs get played like 15 times a day, the medium ones maybe 9 and the low ones maybe 4. That's why you hear the same song every hour during the day.

They occasionally will have "All Request Friday" or whatever. Almost every one of these is planned in advance. People just request the same songs and they're almost always the High rotation ones.

Source: I worked at a radio station. That's how we did it.

How come chicken breast is so much tougher than chick thighs/legs? by Talks_to_myselfin askscience

[–]JCollierDavis 3 points4 points ago

This isn't really a science question but:

  1. They're genetically selected for lean breasts.
  2. You're cooking them wrong.

I have a question about politeness when meeting a Vietnamese family for the first time by thisisviennain AskReddit

[–]JCollierDavis 0 points1 point ago

I would dress a bit conservatively. You don't know how traditional they are so I wouldn't try to fake it. Just be really polite and observe what you see them doing.

I really love the Chicken Enchilada Suiza, but nine minutes to cook man? I almost starve to death every time I'm microwaving one of those.

Sure, Soldiers signed up for a shitty job. There are plenty of unpleasant jobs out there also. Everyone working at something really likes to hear a "thanks, good job." from the people they work for or work with. Many Soldiers feel like they work for the citizens of their country. A little thanks goes a long way.

However I am against ... implying ... that every soldier that is deployed is a "hero"

I'm inclined to agree with you on this one.

Soldiers themselves don't start wars, they're just the instruments. Once you're in a war, all that other stuff about "why are we even here" goes out the window. You lock and load and shoot another man so he doesn't shoot you first.

You know all those billions of dollars we spend on war materiel? Who do you think makes all that stuff? Americans do. That ridiculous F-35 puts many thousands of people to work.

Thank you.

Afghanistan was pretty shitty before we got there. I'm not saying we have or haven't made it worse.

Iraq really does look like a (no shit) war zone. There's concrete barriers everywhere, charred craters in the roads, bullet holes in walls, bombed out buildings, trash, poverty and misery.

Anything you can do to help rebuild the mess we made of that country will have an impact. Please find the opportunity to do it.
