The jawdropping beauty of Gallifrey by general_rubbishin doctorwho

Yes. And how when the wind blew through them, they shimmered and reflected the sky, so it looked like the forest was on fire.

Vistaprint. I'd say "You get what you pay for" but the prices rack up fast and the quality is bad.

Adorable! I'd so love to hold a baby tiger, they're one of my favourite animals, they're so beautiful :)

Seeing this and reading some of the comments makes me realise yet again just how fortunate I am to have a mother who always made me breakfast and always made me a packed lunch to take to school. And never fed me ready-meals.

Oh no, I meant film as in the stuff you put in a camera. The Irish people I know pronounce it funny :D Sorry if I wasn't clear :)

I know a few Irish people on my degree course, and because it's a photography degree I get to listen to them mention 'filum' every now and then. It makes me laugh, but not in a nasty way, they take the mick out of the way I say things too. I'm from Yorkshire :D Sometimes we play a game and try and find out how we each pronounce different words and have a good giggle.

I have the best boyfriend <3 by skeptical_girlin happy

[–]Iraelyth 0 points1 point ago

Most of my old boyfriends ran and hid too, I wasn't really ill that much with others. To be fair though, I didn't want to pass whatever I had on if it was contagious, but a hug would be nice :(

Your boyfriend sounds really considerate! :D

You know somebody who's involved with yakuza? o.O Is that not an uncommon thing in Japan?

I've not heard of power yoga before, I'll have to google that. I imagine it's the same as regular yoga only with weights or something.

Do they? I never knew that. Those throws look like they hurt! I take it you're heavily involved with martial arts in some way due to having visited a few of the dojos, it sounds like more than a passing interest of yours :)

Funnily enough my first choice was Krav Maga, but they don't have any lessons near me and the nearest is in the capital about 50+ miles away. Unfortunately I don't have a driving license yet either, but even if I did it'd be too far. So the compromise was kickboxing, works wonders for toning people up!

And yeah, that's pretty much what I'm saying, it'd take years and years before you got a level high enough to use the techniques effectively. Judo seems quite good too mind you, and Jiu-Jitsu. Wasn't Krav Maga developed by the Israeli military?

Yes, though I'd say kickboxing is more of a martial art than just simple boxing like we saw in the video. Kickboxing is more practical than most martial arts though, it teaches you how to actually injure somebody and you don't need to spend a long time learning it to find out how. Training just refines what you already know and makes you more effective at it. I suppose it's a bit of a hybrid. I seem to recall hearing about how if somebody was learning karate, it'd take years before they got to a level where they could use it for self defence effectively, but I don't know how true that is.

It's more than just punching the front of the face and body too, at least the one I learnt was. For example, you learnt how to spin somebody around so you had easy access to the kidneys and the back of the neck too, the move could also send them off balance and crashing to the floor, we were also taught kicks that reached around the back and dealt some damage to the kidneys, too. I recall being restrained at one point or having my arms restrained and having to break free, it was one of the exercises. I think I remember being told once that being taught kickboxing is a good foundation, but when you're in a real fight you'll use anything available to you whether it's knees, elbows, teeth or other objects, like you mentioned.

Ah yes, I forgot about those exercises with the incremental punches. We did those too, usually with a partner who was using focus mitts. I think we did them with the bags too though. He'd usually go up by 1, maybe 2, and then every now and then he'd chuck in a 20 (2, 2, 2, 6, 2, 4, 10, 4, 20) and they really wore me out. I had to learn to pace myself a little and not throw all my energy into the first few punches.

Ouch, that sounds scary. I'm glad you're ok. I'm happy to say I've never been in a situation like that and I hope I never am, but the fear of something like that happening is part of what pushed me into going to kickboxing lessons in the first place. I got fed up of thinking I'd like to do this and that or go someplace but the fear of being a young woman going places alone was enough to put me off. It's a sad truth but at least by going to the lessons it gives me a little more hope and confidence. I think I'd need a lot of training before I got to a point where the clarity of mind was present even if my life was on the line though. Arguments are one thing, being pistol whipped is another as you pointed out.

I used to have kickboxing lessons, I keep meaning to go back and I will at some point, but anyway. One of the exercises they got us to do was to either repeat specific punches with the punch bag until the instructor said to stop, or repeated kicks (10 or 15 in a row, then switch legs). After our turn was up we'd head to the back of the queue and wait again. You were exhausted after it, more-so after the kicks as they really took it out of you, but only if you laid into it. It got easier as time went on.

I agree with you on the mental thing too. One thing I noticed was how once I started training and sparring I found it much easier to keep my head in such a confrontational situation as the novelty of it wore off fast. I don't go out looking for fights, but I've ended up in a few verbal arguments now and then and the clarity of mind is pretty evident.

I had to look again after reading your comment. I suppose it's because the front of the eye is bulging slightly, I wonder if it's due to trying to focus on something in low light causing the lens to push the aqueous humour forwards?

Not to mention one that leaves them unsupervised in a shop. They'll either get lost and scared or break stuff. I get the impression the kid was quite young.

This happens sometimes when you don't get into all the nooks and crannies when you're cleaning off makeup. So I don't think she's wearing it at the moment (it's confined to the base of the eyelashes) but she has worn green eyeshadow or eyeliner at some point.

I was 12. Not a huge difference, but it felt like it back then! It's kinda weird when I look back at being a kid; I realise just how short a space of time has passed between me being a kid to the age I am now and I realise that my childhood memories are through the eyes of somebody who'd not long been born.

I may try it some day. I love ginger-nut biscuits, especially when they're dunked. Maybe I'll like them with cheddar too, another food I highly enjoy!

I've never had Tim Tams, they sound nice though. Sounds a bit like a chocolate digestive; if you dunk it, you better eat it fast!
