Moving from Canada to Cottesloe! What should I expect when I land and what should I know? by WestCoastAmbitionsin perth

[–]Infrmnt 2 points3 points ago

When you surf Cott for the first time, don't cut off or drop in on the locals. Cott locals are particularly rough and don't take well to drop ins. Localism isn't THAT bad in Perth compared to say, Maroubra, but it is still a small issue, especially if you have a non Australian accent.

Avoid Balga, the front end of Mosman Park, Northbridge after midnight.

Avoid "Club Bayview" also known As "Clubba".

My presets folder is the one that is stupidly organized. every single morning I wake up and promise myself I'll finally sort my drums but I never get around to it. I have some good stabs and stuff I've rendered but I don't end up using them a lot, I tend to just make new stuff when I'm in the heat of the moment. I'm definitely not a good dude to talk to on organization sorry man!

One thing I am super organized about though is backups, got huuuundreds of backups here and there. I lost a song once and never forgave myself, and ever since then I've made a new backup of my entire projects folder onto DVD, as well as my presets folder, and also backed them up onto 3 hard drives. Tunes develop over years sometimes, you never know when that idea you had back in 2009 can be re-vitalized!

I also have one backup hard drive I left at a friends house with everything on it, just in case I get robbed somehow, because the backups are certainly not something insurance can bring back from the dead!

This will help with EQ - http://www.independentrecording.net/irn/resources/freqchart/main_display.htm

Making my music identifiable is definitely something I need work on, my style is not unique (although strings with dubstep is a pretty untapped genre but I wouldn't exactly say it's my signature sound as I'm heading in radically new directions).

I was surfing gracetown in down south western Australia. A bodyboarder kid started screaming at everyone to get out of the water. We paddled in like mad, and scrambled over the reef, finally getting onto the sand, the kid was still screaming and had barely managed to contain himself. He managed to get out the words

"Was paddling for a wave, suddenly a great white went straight under me, thing was fucking huge, straight under my board, can't believe it didn't hit me, so big, disappeared into the black"

We all freaked the fuck out and left the beach, alerted the coast guard on the way out. A few of my friends thought the kid was bullshitting to get everyone out of the water so he could get the waves himself, but we agreed we'd probably never know for sure.

Then, A few days later, this happened: http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/surfer-dies-after-being-savaged-by-shark-at-gracetown-20100817-127n9.html

Hey dude, thanks. Appreciate that.

As for your tune, it sounds good. It's the opposite of the tune I commented on above, it has loads of weight on the low end but not much interesting stuff happening up high. I'd try to make your drums a bit more interesting. The snare could defs use a bit more punch (whack it into a transient shaper and pump up the attack, and if that doesn't work for you, switch samples). Add some more mids a bit higher, it's really hard to hear what's going on and just sounds kind of weak. I know the kind of tune you're going for (DJ Fresh - Mission to Mars) for instance; but if you listen, his drums are way more interesting and diverse. It's a good effort though, keep working hard, you will definitely get there!

Hey man, appreciate the kind words. Aftertaste took forever to make, glad you dig it.

Your bassline has almost no power at all. There is actually no bass in this tune. You need to start adding in sub bass lines. or at the very least layer your mid bass with another sin wave an octave (or two in this case) below. Look at your stuff in a freq analyzer, look what's happening around 60hz, and then compare it with a tune by Feed Me. Notice the difference?
