OPB has a lot of cool videos and such. I also like the historic books. I just read one on streetcars in Portland. Such a huge shame that they weren't kept up. This would be like a European city and very few people would have to own a car.

Also there are a lot of books based in Portland. That's cool stuff too!

I've lived close in SE and way-out SE (122nd Ave) and I never had a problem getting around. The further you are from the city the cheaper the rent will be.

You'll probably want to look in NE or SE, but N is nice (but hard to get around) and further out SE (Woodstock or Gresham) will be cheaper rent. Most of the twenty-thirty-somethings want to live in SE or NE.

I'm sure where you live will dictate which school you go to.

Yes, if the government mined it's own minerals and drilled and refined it's own oil it'd be a lot cheaper. It is a misnomer to think that a private agency will be more efficient than a government official. That private agency will want twice what the worker will cost because they need to make money too.

You should start with a form first, pick 12,16,24,32. Then make a lead-sheet with the chords. This will devolve into chaos if there isn't some order.

Whoa? I have never been to a 'networking' event. The animator meet-up was an 'unconference' and people were more interested in local grants and bigger events than meeting people. No one was looking for jobs.

I would never go to a networking event, but I would go to any meet-up or event that I feel would be particularly interesting. There is a iphone programming user group that I go to every once in a while. A similar kind of event, mostly introverted nerds, but there almost always are beers afterwards. It's your choice to meet people and to respond to those that want to meet you.

Not true, I moved to a new city as a 29-year-old and knew 3 people. 2 of them were impossible to get together with and the other rebuffed my attempts to hang out, then he invited me to a bbq and I met mutual friends that I am good friends with today.

I go to things that I like and meet people with similar interests. I want to compose music for animation, so I went to a free animator meet-up. Sure, I haven't scored anything, but I met people.

Do it by going out. What are your hobbies? Perhaps there's an intermural sport you can join? A club?

Are you into table tennis? Actual tennis?

Perhaps there's a soccer club? Or you could try to organize a viewing of a game, go to the events coordinator and see if they have a projector that you can use for a late-night soccer game.

Are there film nights? foreign film nights? Video Game tournaments?

You've got to make it for yourself. No one will make friends for you and you aren't going to make friends seeing somebody one time. Be a friend.
