Jury Absolves Google in Patent Phase of Java Trial vs. Oracle by silence_hrin programming

[–]HaMMeReD 0 points1 point ago

This is more a issue with java's core philosophy and OS fragmentation than it is implementing the Api's for use with the desktop.

It just shows that we'll never truly reach that write once run everywhere because there is too many variables, however we can get close.

Jim Parsons of Big Bang Theory comes out of the closet in NYT interview. You go Jim! by roastedbagelin entertainment

[–]HaMMeReD 3 points4 points ago

That is not the reason you are losing karma, besides it being off topic. An actors sexual orientation has very little to do with the characters he plays.

Plenty of gay actors play straight roles and vice versa.

No it doesn't mean that, however it might mean that you are a intolerant moron.

You can still uphold java's principles by using something like LibGDX.

Someone could also mirror the Android API's and make android java truly run everywhere.

My friends said I couldn't live in a storage unit... by k_moin funny

[–]HaMMeReD 1 point2 points ago

Thats nothing. A ex-buddy of mine used to volunteer at the red-cross in a storage room similar to this. He would take girls there.

It had a lot of beds in there, but they are the same beds that have had people die and defecate on.

Video pauses when the screen is turned off. Any way to prevent this? by xelestedin AndroidQuestions

[–]HaMMeReD 1 point2 points ago

Close, the wakelock just keeps the screen on.

The problem is that Activities pause when the screen goes off, and the video-player he is using manages everything in a activity. If it were to keep playing sound with the screen off, processing would need to move to a service.

A different homeless person fights for that spot every day. I think it's sort of a throne.

I don't think most street meth is of WW quality though. The show is all about him being the best at what he does. Of course his meth will demand high prices. I'm talking more the Jesse meth, before he met Walter. Dirt meth.

Lacing and substituting are different things.

For every 1 gram of weed, there is probably only a tiny bit of meth on it.

I don't really know, I've never done or shopped for meth. I'd figure though if you were in the business of lacing it you'd at least attempt to be cost-affective.

[–]HaMMeReD -4 points-3 points ago

Meth isn't more expensive than weed (to acquire if you make yourself). However, it is much more addictive and dangerous.

The dealer probably thought that the added addiction == $$$ which is a scumbag move.

Edit: You might disagrees, but making good trees takes about 3-4 months. Isn't really dangerous but is a fuck-ton of work. However, cooking meth is finding some basic ingredients and spending a afternoon playing chemist.

There is material cost which is higher than I may have respected, government may make it even more expensive by limiting pseudoephaderine supplies and meth-watch programs.

I already said it was dangerous however, I really don't think it is hard to make considering, at least in labour costs compared to weed.

VLC For Android Gets Unofficial Hourly Alpha Builds, Courtesy Of A Generous Developer by chendysworldin Android

[–]HaMMeReD 9 points10 points ago

The changes need to be committed to source control. It's continuous integration, usually continuous integration triggers a build on every commit, but limiting it to hourly builds prevents the system from getting flooded.

Stop calling it 8-bit just because its made of few pixels. Its 16-bit or 32-bit. Nes was 8-bit. Snes was 16 bit. by Aaronmcomin gaming

[–]HaMMeReD -7 points-6 points ago

If you make your art with a 8bit palette, then it kind of is 8 bit.

But you would be correct in assuming most "8bit" uses 16bit/32bit architectures or color depths.

Walking around the park in London when suddenly... SQUIRREL!!! by A_N_Otherin pics

It could also mean that over many generations of squirrels they have become much friendlier to humans, because humans feed them

Or you might be right and it might have rabies.

Either way it's a wild animal and don't let it bite you or scratch you, or you could get infected and die.

You do realize raytrace isn't necessarily the best option right?

Pixar Renderman used by many many movies does not Raytrace it's images, instead uses shaders and composition.

There is nothing wrong with the current methods, both can lead to extremely high image quality. Neither is a truly physical model.

What is Google Wallet, and how do I use it? by Jayrossin AndroidQuestions

If you really want google wallet and it's not pre-installed on your phone, you need to find and install a hacked wallet.apk, you may need to be rooted to do that.

TIL: An MIT student wrote Newton's equation for acceleration of a falling object on the blackboard before jumping to his death from a 15th floor classroom. by RichardWangin todayilearned

[–]HaMMeReD 0 points1 point ago

Aim for soft ground, trees if possible. Once you reach terminal velocity you can only slow down, so slow yourself down as much as possible prior to the impact.

If there is mountains, you use the mountains geometry to try and land in a way that doesn't absorb all the force of your impact. Trees can provide quite the breaking system as well, however you need to choose your trees carefully.

Steve Rothstein bought a unlimited travel ticket from American Airlines for 250,000 dollars in 1987 and now it's being "terminated due to fraudulent activity" by tyrellyin news

Yeah I can attest for the fact that getting bounced usually yields your flight + some bonus for the inconvenience.

My parents flew basically for free for years by volunteering to get bounced and getting free flights from the airlines.

What bullshit. How could it be fraud if he put a fake name, he was entitled to take 1 person with him everywhere (it's not like it was conditional on who he brought, and there was no bypassing security).

Hell, for the 400k he paid, he should be entitled to take 2 seats for himself on every flight he wants.

High-quality 3D Starfield/Skybox/skysphere: advice/tuts needed by tboneplayerin gamedev

[–]HaMMeReD 1 point2 points ago

The concept of a skybox is to take a box or sphere (or hemisphere) and then put the user in the middle of it.

The skybox moves with the user, giving the perception that it is very far away.

Since you can still "look" around the sphere, or the box, it makes for a background that apparently at infinity.

Textured Quad is just a square/rectangle with a texture applied to it in somewhere in 3d space.

I assume he means you would put textures of nebula's on a quad and then render it somewhere in the distance.

Help me out with game development methodologies. by omgLazerBeamzin gamedev

[–]HaMMeReD 0 points1 point ago

Agile is good, but no need to get ultra technical.

Stories = Work Elements you can put on paper and assign estimates to

Sprint = Working on your stories

Daily Reviews/Sprint Reviews = Planning for your day/week.

By breaking down your work and planning in more detail, you get way more done. Really it comes down to "Make lists : do your best to complete them"

6 projects seem to be a lot. If they are all games you should consider doing a game or two at a time and leverage both the games and tools you create into future games.

Art assets fit fine in a agile framework. You just add stories for the Art that needs to be done, and somebody on the art team takes the stories.

At my office we use TeamPulse as our agile project manager software. It seems pretty good for something that uses silverlight.

Edit: Don't forget the introspectives, really you should always just be introspective. it's not just about how much you can do, but on improving your own processes and fixing your flaws, which you need to accept before you can repair.

It would be better if they just let people opt-in to the service and pay them directly.

Sure nobody makes any real money, but at least ethically it's OK.
