I've worked abroad for a few years now, so I may be able to help ya out a bit.

First, it's a fantastic experience and YOU NEED to take it if you can. You will never regret it, not for an instant, but now down to business.

You really need a college degree. There are some programs where you don't, but these are really rare, difficult to get into and your visa will become a bitch to get. Unless you are a student and get a student visa, you will need a work visa. You usually cannot get these unless you are a qualified applicant.

What's your career area? Some careers are in demand overseas in certain places, others are not. Teaching is in demand overseas, as is IT, engineers and some other jobs. Your job in sales or management is probably not needed or wanted, sorry.

Don't be picky about where you want to go. Unless you are an EU member, it will be very, very, very difficult to obtain a work visa in the EU and might end up costing you money. You can make a lot of money in Gulf(Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, etc) and you can find decent money if you look in China and other Asian countries. I honestly don't know much about Africa.
