Developed an infected toenail two days ago. Running a 13.1 tomorrow. Any tips to mitigate discomfort? by brumbozin running

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 0 points1 point ago

I haven't dealt with an infection alone before, if you are referring to an ingrown toenail (where the nail is pushing into the skin) my advice is to soak it in bath salts to soften the nail. If it starts bleeding it is time to see the doctor because it won't be able to heal while the nail is in place. I've dealt with some pretty nasty ingrown toenails and tried to tough it out. All I did was torturing myself really.

Running outside vs the Treadmill by olilovein running

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 0 points1 point ago

I had the same issue, the treadmill really is the least challenging way to run. What I do now is I just increase the incline whenever I am on a treadmill and use that as a kind of correction factor.

When I was a kid my older sister told me I had a metal plate in my head and she would lock me out of the house during lightning storms. I'd run the neighborhood in zig zags screaming and crying like a maniac. How did your siblings torture you reddit? by Linsatiablein AskReddit

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 1 point2 points ago

Well my sister harassed and tortured me up to the day I left for University so her tactics evolved over time. I'll try to go in semi-chronological order.

  • general physical torture: throwing me down hills, tying me up locking me in places, hitting me, sitting on me, pushing me out of trees, etc
  • told me everyone in my class hated me and that the teacher only told them to act nice to me.
  • tried to convince me that I was a hermaphrodite and I had gotten surgery when I was a baby to remove my other parts. She told me that if I asked mom she would be really shocked and try to deny it
  • discouraged me from learning how to play any musical instruments
  • I used to do gymnastics when I was really young and I recall being above-par and really enjoyed it. She convinced me that I was awful and that at my age I should be way better if I was going to amount to anything.
  • smashed my thumb with a hammer
  • Referred to me as "Boy" between the ages of 11-18, absolutely refused to call me by my actual name.
  • Being discouraged from sports and activities I put on weigh and became a big kid which lead to her teasing me about being fat for 5 years (she is a whale now btw)
  • Started bringing her friends over to help torture me, probably because I was getting big enough to fight back at this point. (she was 15 or 16 and I would imagine most would have grown out of actively torturing their little brother)
  • convinced me that no girls would ever like me
  • Actively cock-blocked me and attempted to derail any budding relationships I had with girls throughout highschool. (my sister graduated and didn't work or go to college so she just hung around and harassed me)
  • would try to embarrass me in front of any friends that I brought over (baby pictures, told them I still wet the bed, other lies)

There are a bunch more but I don't feel like writing them down. I moved across the country for university, partially to get away from her. It took me almost 4 years to build up any confidence. Even now, as an adult, I don't have any interest in getting back in touch with her.

tl;dr: I have no interest in knowing my older sister any more.

There is no way to guarantee that seeing that person's profile hasn't biased them on the basis or race/age/religion etc. even if the thumbs up or thumbs down comes from a third party. Looking for morally contemptuous behaviour is nothing short of a moral judgement of the applicant, something that necessitates a very expansive grey area. A grey area that leaves the reasoning of the decision open to questioning. If anything, using a third party (outside of the company) could just outsource the legal issues.

or am I completely off base?

Has U of T Engineering Acceptances Always Been Like This? by supersymmetryin UofT

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 0 points1 point ago

There are rumors, only rumors mind you, that ut engineering tracks the success of graduates from different highshools and scales the grades of applicants accordingly. This is mainly something inferred through observation I think and would make sense based on my experience. (mech alum)

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 1 point2 points ago

Transferring into mech is particularly difficult, as it is a popular choice for engsci dropouts and trackones. So if you really want to transfer you will probably need that 80+ and although I am sure you are one of the smartest at your highschool, so is everyone else, so expecting those kinds of grades is unrealistic. Just be prepared to stay in chem if you do accept.

Switching is only easy if you get crazy high grades in first year. Which you probably won't btw.

You are in the middle of an Interview for a much needed job, when the interviewer turns to her computer, hands poised over the keyboard and asks, "What is you Facebook login and Password?". How would you react? by PirateKiltin AskReddit

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 1 point2 points ago

I believe that asking me this you are hoping to attain information that may be the basis of discrimination against me and as such may be in violation of my human rights. I am sorry but I feel I will need to file a complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Council.

Companies do not like having human rights complaints.

my friend asked for my urine to pass a drug test.... What am I risking if I give it to him? (live in Canada) by Shiby92in AskReddit

[–]GiantAngryJellyfish 2 points3 points ago

This is a true thing, I recommend you read the pdf. Its only 16 pages, the first 2 are the important one. If your friend has been to rehab the following clause may apply to him once he has the job:

"Periodic or random testing following disclosure of a current drug or alcohol dependency or abuse problem may be acceptable if tailored to individual circumstances and as part of a broader program of monitoring and support. Usually, a designated rehabilitation provider will determine whether follow-up testing is necessary for a particular individual"

Pre-employment testing may warrant a complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

Wow, Hi everyone, thanks for all the constructive comments and upvotes. I drew this a few months ago and posted it to get some honest feedback. I have a few more comics featuring Todd that I may post once I work on some of the things you have pointed out. Unless I decide to quit while I am ahead and cash my karma in from some form of boat, or moustache comb.
