I live in japan and have to say your view is old-fashioned. Korean brands and even culture are now very much a part of japanese life. Almost no one has a japanese brand phone. Iphones and galaxy seem to be most popular. And even tvs these days arent japanese. Toshiba has recently exited production in japan.

The ha wa thing is a special case, not really anything other than that. But ive met people who are adament that japanese ra is similar to english ra. This was an error made hundreds of years ago. It is much closer to say the sound is la or even da than it is ra. Bare that in mind when you hear Rs.

You mean algae is the plural noun. Countable means you can count it, no matter if the word changes. Person - people. Cat - cats. Uncountable means they is no plural. Water, energy, air, smoke.
