People always lament bad film adaptations of good books. But what are some examples of superior cinematic adaptations? by CheatasaurusRexin literature

Eh I just got pissed about having the same argument with about 4 different people. Also, whiskey. You know how 'tis.

Christ on a cracker, please quote me as to where I specifically said that the book Lolita was better than the movie?

Reddit fucking sucks.

I mean it's all art, it seems to me that it's unfair to assume movies are worse off because they're easier to grasp than books. I mean are paintings better than symphonies? Are plays better than sculptures? In the end you wind up debating something inherently subjective. In this light this entire thread is superfluous.

I said "equal or better." I find both the film and the book enjoyable; the book probably more so, but that's pretty subjective. I think they both do a good job with the story and characters.

I just have a soft spot for Peter Sellers--he's amazing in that film.

Kubrick was all over great adaptations: Barry Lyndon (it wasn't great, but it was better than the book), 2001, A Clockwork Orange, (but not Lolita because you'll get flamed by a bunch of college Freshmen who don't actually read what you're saying), pretty much everything he did was an adaptation and was either equal or better than the source material.

Automatic to a manuel? by Vindaverin Cartalk

[–]GMUSSTN 5 points6 points ago

Installing a Manuel: find Manuel, open door, place Manuel in car.

Installing a manual: very difficult, probably not worth it on the Focus. The only way I'd do it is if I had a junked Focus to use as a donor car, and even then it'd probably be pretty hard. Honestly your best bet is probably just selling the Focus and buying a manual car for around the same price.

Old Dominion leaving CAA for Conference USA by arbysguyin CollegeBasketball

CAA Commissioner. He's doing a terrible job of giving reasons for his teams to stay with the CAA. He's also responsible for the CAA Tournament being in Richmond every year.

bk05 below points out Mason may have never had the chance, which is probably true. That being said, O'Connor probably didn't put any effort into it, since that requires investing in your athletic program.

That's a good point, however I doubt O'Connor put any legwork into it. He didn't put any legwork into keeping Larranaga around. So long as he gets paid he's just going to keep doing what's easiest for him and stupid for the fans.

Pretty soon the CAA will just be Tom O'Connor and Tom Yeager sitting in a bar collecting paychecks. Mason's decision to stay was dumb but tolerable last week; today it just looks foolish and stupid.

For those of you keeping score, this make Seven total teams eligible for next season's CAA Tournament. That's right, you can't even skip right to the semifinals because you don't have enough teams.

CAA is a sinking ship and Mason has elected to go down with the captain.

Just looking to get as much advice as I can before I decide if I can do this myself...just watched the video and I'm pretty sure I can, but I'm also pretty sure that's what the video was designed to make me think...

Eh this car just sat for a year so in the process of general tune ups I've been drip-showered by gear oil, motor oil, and coolant so what's one more?

I'd like to do this first since it's cheap and I can do most of it myself while I save up to put in 3.73s. I know it won't solve acceleration problems, I'm just looking for more consistency and decisiveness out of my trans. It's the combination of those two things together that will give me what I'm looking for--I'm just gonna start with the cheaper one.

I figured the acceleration factor will be more noticeable once I get around to having the gears installed. My main question here is how difficult is it to install this shift kit? I don't want to get halfway into the job and realize it's something that you should really leave to the pros.

I'm pretty sure Tom Yeager wants to put it in any building Mason won't be able to win it in.

Indeed. I'm sad to see the possibility of the CAA without ODU and VCU. It wouldn't be the same. At this point it's out of my hands so I'm done complaining or discussing it. Just gotta see what happens and hope for the best.
