300,000 times the strength of the Earth's magnetic field: BLADE's new 14 Tesla magnet by DrJulianBashirin science

[–]GLneo 1 point2 points ago

Yes, but I had -2 and your had +5, people viewed what you said as proving me wrong, I was correcting them not you. Also it DOES depend on "density" ( what ever that is in the real world ), the earth in a point would be a black-hole, but yes at the same distance the deference would be negligible.

I said DENSER, not more massive.

This is correct, the field will basically fold though its self during the transition. It's not like it will just spin over along the side of the planet on the way to the other side. This diminished field is evident in the magnetically layered rock we used to find out this even happens.

When your close enough it would, but it's about the size of the field not strength. I could have a rock 300,000 times denser than the earth and things close would fall in, but not at a distance like the earth could pull in. The field is dense but not big and so the force, following the inverse cube law tappers of much more quickly than earths ( don't ask me the universe just knows ).

It all depends on the size of the field not the strength at a point. The earth's field is downright weak but it's big so the inverse CUBE ( 1/r3 with magnetism ) law trails of slower.

Dear developers, this is why you should make your games moddable. by tppielin gaming

[–]GLneo 0 points1 point ago

Best example: HalfLife. Which spawned the most popular mod of all time: CounterStrike. Which itself is super modifiable, a good deal of CS servers are Surf, ZM, ZE, MG, etc. modded games!

Yup, Midwest here, corn belt, corn grain alcohol, do the math.

What's with that, maybe i'm just lucky and got a few good ones, but I've never in 10 years of using only them had the smallest problem.

If you know what your doing it's the most cost efficient way to get drunk. But PSA don't hit it like vodka, its has twice the alcohol by volume and 3 times the punch.

FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE to deprecate GCC and use Clang by default. by ryanjkirkin BSD

[–]GLneo 0 points1 point ago

About time! The GCC in base is almost unusably old. I've been using Clang forever now, and although most things work, hopeful this will push some interest into getting the last few bugs out.

FLAC vs Mp3 (320kbps) by Teqnologyin audiophile

[–]GLneo -1 points0 points ago

But my point is that's not "DOUBLE"-blind, its single, when the subject doesn't know what one he is listening to, it's a blind-test. To prevent the researcher from adding his own bias he himself can "blinded" and not know with he is presenting to the subject so his bias does not interfere. This is called a "DOUBLE" blind. How can the computer not know which it is playing, ergo it's only a single blind test.

FLAC vs Mp3 (320kbps) by Teqnologyin audiophile

[–]GLneo 0 points1 point ago

Right, but in this case the experimenter IS the software an therefor knows which it is playing, and so not a true DOUBLE-blind test. More to the point, why would that be needed, how can software be biased anyway...

This AMAZING 3-minute 3d fractal video is only 4kb (less than an empty word document) by soperfluousin math

[–]GLneo 1 point2 points ago

No, this is not how computation works. The video has no inherent size. MP4, x264, etc.. are all just containers that can be decoded with programs to display a representation of a video. This program simply takes this idea to the extreme. Saying the video is larger makes no scene, it depends on what format the video is changed to, hell I could make some crazy container and it would be 45TB sized video. This is a 4kb video.

How do you do a double-blind with a piece of software?

FLAC vs Mp3 (320kbps) by Teqnologyin audiophile

[–]GLneo 5 points6 points ago

I can never hear the difference with a good MP3 encoder, but I still go FLAC for storage as in this day and age HD space is no longer an issue. Also, I can FLAC -> MP3 for my phone if I need too, FLAC is like having a master copy ( Plus the licencing is a LOT better ).

What is all this activity around 501MHz? by keenerdin RTLSDR

[–]GLneo 0 points1 point ago

Never knew of that before, but looking into it I took this picture of what I believe is my local LTR traffic at 855.7Mhz, doesn't look the same, maybe what I have is not LTR, what do you think it is? http://imgur.com/MgMv5
