Today my girlfriend told me that she would never have kids with a guy with tattoos because she doesn't want her kids born with the tattoos of the father, as if they were passed genetically. What are some ridiculous science-related ridiculous misconceptions you've had the displeasure to observe? by oldspicerolldadicein AskReddit

Unlike everyone else here, I will tell a story of myself being monumentally stupid.

I didn't know that you could have female goats. I thought sheep were female and goats were male and that's how it worked. My friends still bring this up occasionally.

When I was 8 I had strep throat and I had to give blood for a blood test, they payed me 100 dollars and my mom let me have all of it. It literally felt like I had infinite money.

What was your favorite moment from the 2011 season? Here's mine. by shrynein nfl

I can't believe the answer for everyone was not the Vernon Davis TD at the end of the Niners/Saints game. My girlfriend doesn't even like sports much less understand football, and she got fucking amped by that play.

If you could make one trade to improve your team.. who would you trade for (and what would you give up)? by LinuxUser4Lifein nfl

[–]FuriousJ 2 points3 points ago

Knowshon Moreno for some athletic tape.

Now that's a smart trade, a roll of athletic tape could last through two-three games.

I don't understand why they don't have the Browns at #1, Weeden wont need more than 52 seconds to turn that team around.

Can someone seriously answer this question about what Christianity's official standpoint is, on this subject? by FuriousJin atheism

[–]FuriousJ[S] 0 points1 point ago

I can't believe this got downvoted, this is essentially the exact question I want answered.

So, the punishment isn't quite what I was referring to. What I was wondering really, is God trying to let us figure it out for ourselves, or is he guiding us forcefully. Is he punishing you directly when you mess up and rewarding you directly when you do what he wants, or is the claim that when we do evil, evil befalls us, and that isn't God's direct intervention, but rather the way the world works (which would be indirect intervention from God).

Do you think lesser of believers? by jesuschristmodein atheism

[–]FuriousJ 0 points1 point ago

I try not to I really do. But especially in grad school, when I hear a person say they believe in God, I just think to myself, "Are you fucking serious?" Then do a bit of a sigh, and then spend the rest of the conversation feeling guilty for judging the person as harshly as I did.

To me believing in God takes one of two things stupidity or apathy. Stupidity to not be able to rationally think through the numerous insanities of religion, or apathy to not care enough to consider them.

Oddly enough I judge the latter harsher. If a person lacks the analytical capacity to wrap their minds around the impossibilities of religion that isn't their fault. But when someone is smart, as smart as me, and hasn't figured it out. I just feel disappointed in them.

I feel the proper analogy is like being an art teacher, and having seen this one students projects, and to see so much talent and vision in his work, then I assign a project where everyone gets to draw whatever they want, and this student just turns in this half-assed uninspired work. If it was a student with no artistic ability, fine, that's nice work. It's not good, but you tried and I'm impressed. But for that top student...

Does anyone else get pissed off when a player or coach on a team says their team is going to be good/do something impressive? by FuriousJin nfl

[–]FuriousJ[S] 0 points1 point ago

It was admittedly poorly phrased, but please note, at no point do I refer to whom I get angry with, solely that I get angry.

[–]FuriousJ[S] 0 points1 point ago

I don't get mad at the coaches and players, I get mad at the reporters for asking them obviously loaded questions. If a reporter asks, "How is Bradie James in comparison to Demeco Ryans?" to the LB coach, what can he say? Nothing he has to give some bullshit response that wont offend any fans of players. Its a pointless question that should never have been asked, because he can't give an honest answer.

Who will be 2012's 49ers? Who will be 2012's Buccaneers? by Bruce_Gin nfl

I think the Jets will find Tebow will not be that fortunate again either.

What backups will break out this year? by Bruce_Gin nfl

[–]FuriousJ 0 points1 point ago

Locker I think is the best bet for this. Hasselbeck's good but if the season starts to get out of hand (which it might, it's not guaranteed to but it might) there's no way Munchak won't throw Locker in there. And if Locker's as good as he's supposed to be he'll look sharp.

Who will be 2012's 49ers? Who will be 2012's Buccaneers? by Bruce_Gin nfl

[–]FuriousJ 0 points1 point ago

For the 49ers? I'm picking the Chiefs and Vikings with one contingency, their star RB's stay healthy. The Chiefs would've easily handled our weak division with a health Jamaal Charles last year (not to mention a few other key injuries), and with the Vikings. Last year I saw a lot of potential, Ponder definitely looked like the kind of guy who will figure it out, and be a starter for a long time in this league. Healthy Peterson + matured Ponder + insane monster Allen = success.

Buccaneers? I hate to say it, because I like 'em Panthers. That teams got a lot of holes, Newton looked sharp, but I actually picture his performance will most likely be less impressive this year (not that he'll regress just that people will gameplan for him better). I think they did alright in the draft and in a year or two will be a contender, but I picture them falling down a step.
