Why are male molestors of young boys looked upon with stronger disgust than molestors of young girls? Is it a kind of homophobia? by FreeAsInFreedoooooomin AskReddit

[–]FreeAsInFreedoooooom[S] 0 points1 point ago

The question just seems to be why YOU feel molesters of young boys are more disgusting.

I never said that I felt that way.

I'm pretty sure what I've observed is valid. Maybe because I'm British and have been more exposed to the Catholic stuff.

They're both children's shows.

TIL due to a strange law in America where importing toys resembling humans are taxed higher than those that do not; Marvel successfully argued in court that because their X- men action figures are mutants, they should be exempt from the tax. by FullPetalAlchemistin todayilearned

The title and your two suggestions are all bad.

"TIL of a strange law in America where importing toys resembling humans are taxed higher than those that do not"

The use of the word 'where' is childlike.

"...importing toys resembling humans are taxed higher" - should be 'imported'

"TIL due to a strange law, imported toys in America resembling humans are taxed higher than those that do not."

Something I haven't mentioned yet, a line that was in the article:

But "dolls" (which are representations of people) face a higher import duty than "toys" (which are representations of non-humans).....

So 'toys' are never going to resemble humans. That's a side issue, however. If we accept 'toys' as generic term your proposed title is still bad. I can't be bothered to articulate it, it just reads bad. If you paid attention in school you may have written something like:

TIL due to a law in the US, a higher tax is placed on toys which resemble humans than those which do not.

Which would be non-offensive.

A decent first sentence would be:

"TIL of a law in the US which places a higher tax on imported 'dolls' (which must resemble humans) than on 'toys' (non-humans.)

It's not hard, is it?

Maybe because I'm British the VVR I use it different, but it never hurt me at all. I applied it directly on the head of the penis and it just felt like I was sweating from there.

I hope you aren't telling lies over the internet, young man.

Are you a loud and proud book abandoner or a guilt-finisher? by clintonkin books

[–]FreeAsInFreedoooooom 0 points1 point ago

I abandon when it's clear the book isn't heading to a place I like.

If it's a classic I'll give it much more dedication, because knowing about these great works is important.

What do you use for bookmarks? by wiingdiingin books

[–]FreeAsInFreedoooooom 0 points1 point ago

I bought some socks about 6 months ago, they were bundled together by a piece of elasticated string. I used that for a good few months since it was thin and was longer than the spine of all the books I read. The ends started to curl up so I ditched it. Now I use an elastic band which has been cut so it can lay flat in my books.

Clothing tags are also good. Dog-earing is dreadful thing to do to your own books but when it's done to library books my blood boils. An utterly despicable act.

Workmate stinks, what can I do about it without offending him? by ThrowawaysAllTaken2in AskReddit

[–]FreeAsInFreedoooooom 0 points1 point ago

Maybe when he's in the room with you make out that you can smell something bad without actually saying speaking to him. If he notices you sniffing around like you're trying to detect a bad smell he may get paranoid and think "Oh god, oh god, never again. I'll definitely try not to smell as much in the future just please not let him confront me"

Maybe throw in a 'can you smell something?' if he's slow in getting the message.

Because making one of anything with the promise of unlimited copies afterwards is just too much to ask, right?

"Hey everyone, we can copy food, medicine, fancy computer equipment along with loads of other stuff!"

"That's wonderful! Finally, a post-scarcity world is upon us."

"Oh wait, we still have to make those goods first. Since there isn't any lying around and nobody is willing to make it we will not benefit from the copying device."

[–]FreeAsInFreedoooooom -4 points-3 points ago

Yes, of course you would be upset. Who would want to live in a world in which physical goods could be duplicated at a negligible cost? That would just be terrible.
