<I've since changed my workouts to be 1 heavy lifting day (non-crossfit) every 5-6 days at the gym and WODs whenever they play to my strengths (usually 2-3 a week, but sometimes less).>

I've found this to work well for me also. I enjoy running and partaking in road races. I have come a long way in my evolution of training. I now understand that I used to over-train, and by a lot. I now lift close to the heaviest things I can about once a week, and perform crossfit-endurance workouts or my own metcon workouts I write up 2-3 of the other days or as I feel like doing. I meet up with 3-5 friends once a week at a park and we have a metcon throw down, which is good becuase nobody wants to come in last and it's friendly competition.

As for the original poster and his weight gain on the strict Paleo diet, I would love to see a 5-7 day food journal with rough serving size estimates. If you were to keep your carbohydrate level to 20-30% of your total calories, keep the majority of your carbohydrates to your post-workout meal, and do workouts such as crossfit WODs hard, I can't see one gaining body fat. Lean mass yes, but bodyfat no.

If you post a food log somewhere online I'm sure people here will take a look at it and give your their opinion / suggestions.

Did you abstain from caffeine also? I'm guessing the pop you were drinking was caffeinated.

I have a hard time quitting coffee completely, but I try not to go beyond 2 cups/day.

Anyone else take cod liver oil or any other form of liquid fish oil for their Vitamin D when they are not getting enough sun exposure?

Do you eat any meals at a dining hall? Do you have a fridge in your dorm? Get some cheap tupperware type containers and smuggle those goodies back to your pad!

Ubx was pretty spot on. For my clients that must track macronutrients, we usually start with:

PRO: 50% FAT: 30% CHO: 20%

That's usually the starting point and we tinker from there based on the individual.

I like your idea. Thanks for the input. I'm simply aiming to create a resource page that makes this easy for people and something I can just point clients to, knowing that a mass of others approve of the content.

Thanks for the heads up. I intend to break the meats into categories of fat content (lean/medium/fatty) soon. Coconut oil I'm not sure how I overlooked since I use it more days of the week than not. As for the grass fed butter, wouldn't some exclude that as being Paleo since it's a dairy product?

Great job! What percentage of your loss would you attribute to fitness related activities versus dietary changes? It is more remarkable that you were able to transform yourself like you did a) with asthma and b) while you are still in your growth years!

I'm just now discovering how many sub categories there are other than on the main page header. Thanks for making me think. My site is a non-profit that I host out of pocket (but do eat most of the food I photograph). I'll have to look into adspace and how to do it and I think $20 is a fair tax.
