1) The US is going to a first-to-file system, not first to invent. Which really sucks and is overall a horrible idea.

2) The threshold for claims is different. Previously I've heard it said that if you take a chair and turn it upside down and put a hat on it, you can patent a hat rack. I was under the impression from our IP department that the requirements for inventive step are more stringent now, but I am NOT a patent lawyer.

It was rumored to be said among Edison, Ford, and Firestone (yes, of the famous variety) in a conversation. It is widely regarded as an accurate quote, though I do not know which of the three "leaked" the quote, or if it was overheard by a third party.

Typically, rich people buy stupid stuff in small proportion to their disposable income.

I have a relative who will not be named who cannot pay rent, and cannot support his girlfriend and his two children from her. They have all the latest gadgets and big TVs and top-end cellphones and outrageous jewelry. Though it occasionally gets repossessed.
