A quick thought (okay, drunken thought, but still serious). Given the presumption that copyright owners want to make as much money as possible on their intellectual property, and that there are sufficient people willing to pay for a cross-media charcter combat game... What if the game itself was free and developed by a neutral 1se(aside from a small range of default(non-copyright) characters). The money could be split to mostly benefit the copyright holder for each transaction, but a part of each transaction goes back to the dev's of the actual game.

I think that there would need to be a forum for companies to compare and debate stats on the characters, to prevent one company's characters from being over purchased due to better in-game stats.

As long as the companies have all the terms and conditions up front, we might possibly get a few to let us use their characters legitimately.
