Any Veterans Affairs nurses? by MiddleNameDangerin nursing

[–]Echo5iveDelta 0 points1 point ago

I'm finalizing my nursing school pre-reqs and I'm a Marine Corps veteran who was medically retired in 2010; meaning, I have experience at the VA as a patient. I might be able to answer some questions if you'd like.

Job Hunting? by wifeofnursein nursing

Negative on the experience; unless being a repeat patient counts? I was medically retired from the Marines in 2010. With my military career cut short, and a few surgeries as part of my retirement; I gained a unique and eye opening perspective on the medical field and found that not only was I interested in it, but I seemed to grasp it easier than some. (Mind you I'm not the brightest box of rocks, but I like to think I'm smarter than the average stupid person)

So decided to take the knock out the pre reqs; plus a multitude of college courses already in my back pocket and decided to go straight for BSN.

I know Utica; am originally from Vermont. Glad to have heads up on job market, even though it's about 2 yrs out for me; planning ahead is always prudent.

Again, best of luck; determination and hard work got your husband his RN, the same determination will pay off sooner than later with the job he's looking for.

Out of curiosity, what part of upstate NY are you looking in currently? I only ask because my significant other and I have NY on our list of considerations when I finish with my BSN. Is the field saturated there or places simply not hiring due to financial considerations?

Good luck to your husband in his job search and congrats on his graduation.

Upvote for promotion traditions; went through similar rituals in the Corps; miss those days.

Agreed; however it does provide a consolidated list to at least work with.

Now that logic fits. Great answer by the way, thanks!

With those eyebrows, your cat is the feline version of Jay Kordich; the spokesman for those late-night infomercials for the vegetable juicer.

I've never considered V-modas and I see that the LP2 does seem to have all the checks in the box (Music, movies, iPhone call usage, around-the ear cups) Price is a tad high, will have to see if budget allows for it. Will have to check local Microsoft Store in San Diego to see if they have them to test in-store.

Edit: After some reading, can appreciate the mil-spec testing having been mil-spec tested myself

BTW: Aside from appearance, what is the difference between the LP and LP2? I noticed 1 yr vs 2 yr warranty, but seems the sound drive, freq response and impedance are the same and yet the LP can be found almost $100 less.

I'd like to test-drive a pair of m50s, but can't find them locally. As far as modifying them to fit my needs; although it is a matter of some soldering and obtaining the right cable/mic; I'm not sure it's a task I can tackle myself only due to lack of fine motor skills in dominant hand from nerve damage in shoulder (Iraq injury)

The P5 is a tad out of the price window, and the Klipsche Image One is an on-ear (At least for me, maybe I just have huge elephant ears) And that style tends to give me headaches (As noted above)

While the Aviators do get decent reviews, I'm still not convinced the build quality will stand up to a lot of wear and tear; I treat my toys nice, but I am on the go a lot.

Again, I liked the in-line mic reception that the Bose gave me, as well as the comfort level the Ae2i's had when wearing them; I just can't justify that kind of money for a product that I know is worth significantly less. So damn frustrating...

As a Marine Corps combat veteran, this is sound advice that got me through some rough days. Will be utilizing this method once I start my BSN program/clinicals/actual work

Houston, TX nursing schools? (BSN Program) by Echo5iveDeltain nursing

[–]Echo5iveDelta[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks all for the great responses. It is somewhat of a better start than blindly gathering information on my own. I figure it will be best to start cranking out applications this summer so that my current semesters grades will reflect in my transcripts (Am wrapping up Physiology and Microbiology right now, as well as a human cadaver course)

Unfortunately it does look like Im going to have to take one more semester at a Texas community college to knock out a History of Texas Govt. class? So I'm not sure how that is going to impact my application process. Such is life I suppose. Additionally, I am going to have to knock out the HESI entrance exam as well (Apparently, the HESI is not required in CA nursing programs)

30 y/o male entering nursing school by StrangiatoYYZin nursing

I can somewhat relate. When I graduated high school, my mom (a registered nurse of many years) suggested I look at nursing school. But, I was stubborn and the computer industry was booming; then the Y2k thing and 9/11 occurred and the economy tanked at the same time I graduated with my computer degree. So I did a stint in the Marines and loved it until I was medically retired at the age of 31.

I am now 33 and have just about knocked out all my pre-reqs for a BSN program and found that maybe mom was right. Not only am I good at this, but I find it interesting and rewarding and am anxious to see where it takes me.

So, pursue it and see where it takes you; nothing wrong with going back to school in your 30s. If this dumb jarhead can do it, so can anyone.

Good luck!

Real-world importance of Microbio? by Echo5iveDeltain nursing

[–]Echo5iveDelta[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the quick response. I should've mentioned that we're currently studying the Krebs cycle and production of ATP. This of course I can see how it ties into the realm of nursing.

After I cranked out this post, it dawned on me a test we performed in class to rapid-ID unknown bacteria using a BD Biosciences enterotube So I sort of answered my own question. But at the same time, real world input is equally important.

Helps to know the hard work in this class is going to pay off later vs. those students who are sliding through on a C and barely comprehending the material. While the grade is important, understanding the concepts is more beneficial IMHO.
