Hey Reddit, What the hell is this thing in my throat? by forevernoob13in WTF

[–]EatingSteak 0 points1 point ago

Browsing through the answers, the troll answers are easy enough to spot and quite amusing. But the two most likely answers (either a lesion or an HPV breakout) are mentioned several times as well. All in all, not a terrible set of answers.

Well, seeing as how you can ask Reddit in less time than it takes to schedule an appointment, and can read responses in half the time it takes to drive to the doctor, and it's free....

I'd say asking Reddit is a plausible option. I don't see anything immediately life-threatening.

Ask Reddit - 5 minutes, no cost

Go to doctor - several hours, potentially hundreds of dollars.

In that context, I'd say asking Reddit is a plausible step to take.

You know, before this thread, I never thought I'd actually be able to upvote a comment like that without directly contradicting Reddiquette.

In my experience, XBL responses also include "noob" "dumbass", etc, and the total vocabulary consists of as many as ten words.

Well, one of the plausible responses was it's an HPV infection, so "1) Jizz" really isn't that far off.

Suggestion: Buff on Wukong's decoy by draglacein LoLSuggestions

[–]EatingSteak 5 points6 points ago

This is more a Quality of Life change than a "buff", but I completely agree - the decoy should be a 100% visual copy.

I really think it should copy all the visual cues - buffs, Ignite animations, and pings

Almost three-quarters of those born after 1981 agree that “the economic system in this country unfairly favors the wealthy.” And this is just the beginning. by rspix000in occupywallstreet

[–]EatingSteak 1 point2 points ago

At it is, the marginal tax rate is quite high for the higher-income Americans, but the number of exceptions present make the effective bracket much lower. That's why the wealthy are "under taxed" by your words.

The 9-9-9 plan eliminates the thousands and thousands of pages of bullshit tax code, and leads to more people paying what they're supposed to. As an added bonus, it will save hundreds of millions of people hours and hours of doing tax returns.

It was *suggested* (haha, sorry) that I put this here. A 2-part Tribunal: Trial system. by Keljhanin LoLSuggestions

[–]EatingSteak 0 points1 point ago

I think it might not work quite as planned. Right now, I'm at a tossup as to whether or not I should bother to actually run my Tribunal cases, despite being a 'good' player and not a troll.

The more hoops, bullshit, and training I have to jump through to do start, the less likely I am to bother.

If I was really as asshole, and wanted to troll the system, I could always just 'pretend' answer the right questions during my training, then spit out douchebqg answers after that.

Well I did say 'full of bulletholes' for a reason. The point was that it was simple and effective.

Lets Play Morrowind! Part 3 Update by AbominableDandelionin letsplay

[–]EatingSteak 0 points1 point ago

I've played through Morrowind so many times and watched so many let's plays that I don't think I can take any more of it, but always, always have to give Morrowind a shout-out.

Have a couple thumbs-up.

I think I'd rather get punched in the face than have a shotgun slam. At least a fist is appreciably soft.

I'm single, white, no kids. I have a 25% gross, and don't typically get a return unless there's a particular reason (first two years out of school student loan interest or something like that.

But still, even Obama, the only one out of the bunch that doesn't practically cheat on his taxes, makes over 10x more money than me, is worth more than 100x my worth, and still has a very comparable tax rate.

Now Herman Cain, as much as I think he's an idiot, actually had a good idea with the 9-9-9 plan... in that while it's full of bulletholes, there's one good thing about it - it's concise and it's consistent.

To frame the problem, you start with two particles colliding, with linear momentum conserved:

  • m_1 v_1 + m_2 v_2 = m_12 v_12

A gunshot is the reverse of a collision, but the math works the same.

The mathematical interpretation of "kickback" is the energy dispersed in the process, or

  • Delta E = v_12 m_1 + v_22 m_2 - v_122 m_12

If you do some variance analysis here, you'll see that the total energy dispersed increases a LOT with the magnitude of the velocity changes.

Layman's interpretation - objects moving much faster and hitting each other "hurt" a lot more, even if they're smaller objects.

From a physical context, take getting slammed by a rugby or football player, compared to a gunshot. Getting hit by a football player hurts a little, but the momentum change is HUGE. By contrast, getting shot hurts lethally, but the momentum change is MUCH, much lower.

So, to summarize,

tl;dr

A smaller gun will move faster and hence kick harder, even though by Newtown's Conservation of Linear Momentum, they will both "hit" you equally hard.

I'm in my 20s and I make between $50k and $100k per year. With that said, what do

  • Barack Obama

  • Mitt Romney

  • John Kerry

  • Newt Gingrich

...all have in common? They're all multi-millionaires, and they're all in a lower tax bracket than I am. Way to go USA.

I thought he was going to dislocate his wrist. When he didn't, I just thought, "yeah or that could happen".

Shotgun Fail by citidelain gifs

[–]EatingSteak 1 point2 points ago

Yes it's possible, no it's not recommended. He is an undisputed fucking idiot because clearly he just shot a round seconds before he slammed himself in the face.

If you have to be cool enough to be able to do that:

  • Try it on a 20-gauge - smaller projectile(s)

  • Use an extra-heavy shotgun (less recoil per F = ma)

Shotgun Fail by citidelain gifs

[–]EatingSteak 1 point2 points ago

Guess he just found out that shooting solid particles have a lot more "F = ma" than firing photons.

If you really want to have some fun, try a Benelli ultralight. It's made with special alloys so it's rolled super-thin.

This makes it much lighter and easier to work with, and easy to hold in position and aim. But by F = ma, it also kicks a lot harder.

Heh, when I watched the vid, I was expecting the guy to dislocate is wrist or something. Can't decide which is worse.

Suggestion - Report function for Chat Rooms by EatingSteakin LoLSuggestions

Thanks for the consolation... I really can't imagine anyone downvoting that because they enjoy the pub chat rooms so much and are opposed to changing them.

Help out a clueless beginner? by wolfdogrhitin personalfinance

[–]EatingSteak 0 points1 point ago

Well, the important thing is that you're in the oil field and have a good job, and I'm a Chemical Engineer looking for one.

Besides that...

  • As long as you keep your money somewhere, you're doing at least ok.

  • Don't overinvest in your 401k - remember that money isn't "quite" yours, as there's a penalty to take it (your own money) out before it's supposed to be taken out. Your 6% level sounds perfect, leave it there.

  • How's your credit? You'll want to grab a credit card or two (personally, I keep one in my wallet, and one at home for online purchases, as a backup in case wallet gets stolen, etc). Just make sure you pay off your balance monthly. There's a lot of resources for this on the sidebar.

  • Track your monthly expenses. In case you didn't hear it, track your monthly expenses. No matter how much you make and how much you spend, make sure you know where your money is going. Just set up a quick spreadsheet. Spending $100+/weekend on nightlife isn't horribly excessive for your income level, but just make sure you know how much you're spending and what you're spending it on.

  • Consider a Roth IRA or similar. Check the sidebar for more info.

  • There are a lot of posts in this subreddit for "I just got ____ amount of money, what do I do with it?".

Try just checking in casually (maybe a couple minutes or just a phonecall to each of the above bullet points), and do a little research, and let us know what you find. A follow up would be great.

How are we "kicking him when he's down"? I never liked him, am I being a hypocrite for merely continuing to kick him now that he is down, or do I have to cut him a break now?

Every time I hear someone poke fun at me for 'wasting' my vote on a non-mainstream candidate:

  • "But he has no chance to win!"

  • "No, his chance to win is small because of people like you"

I voted for Ron Paul in April and I'm voting for Gary Johnson in November.
