Starcraft noob here, what is the Zerg equivalent of a Terran Nuke? by chompletin starcraft

Not true, Vortex does not wreck anything, it just brings armies to another dimension.

Nukes do, however, wreck everything.

No equality!

Thoughts on MLG-Kespa relationship (would love to hear from FxOBoss, SirScoots or Sundance on this) by NeoDestinyin starcraft

[–]Dysruption 5 points6 points ago

I understand your concern with exclusivity and Starcraft 2, but the MLG-KeSPA partnership is the first bridge between two worlds.

I think it's a necessary step "for eSports" (don't hate me) and bringing the two spectator worlds together. As you said, as long as partnerships and exclusive deals don't get out of hand, I don't think it will be too bad. I guess we have to wait and see.

Good read though.

Can someone give me advice/replays on Phoenix builds vs 4 gate (also Phoenix builds in general)? by bfish510in starcraft_strategy

[–]Dysruption -1 points0 points ago

Unfortunately Phoenix builds against 4gate are extremely weak, I really wouldn't suggest it.

Whenever I go for some sort of Phoenix play, I usually open with 2gate 3 Stalker rush to scout. If I see a 4gate-like opening (a zealot and stalker with a probe) then I throw down a Robo and make some sentries.

If I don't, then I get a Stargate and then a Robo. (Robo is necessary for Observer, in case of DTs.) Also, if your opponent scouts, they will probably go Blink Stalker, in which case you will need Immortals. If, however, they go Robo, then my composition is usually Phoenix, Zealot, Immortal, and a few Stalkers/Sentries. Graviton Beam the Immortals/Sentries. This requires a bit of control.

Just my two cents.

PvP - what to do? Replay included, advice needed by RyuHayabusa710in starcraft_strategy

[–]Dysruption 2 points3 points ago

You can get pretty far in PvP by just hitting every warp cycle and pumping out Immortals. This usually entails 1-base all-ins, but it's good practice for macro.

Once you get that down, there's a lot of room for creativity in PvP, which is why I kind of like it. Phoenixes, DTs, Warp Prisms, Blink, etc. And congratulations. :)

Hi there. Masters Protoss.

Without looking at the build he did and what you should have done against it, I have a few things to say.

Your Core was a bit late, but at your level it's not a big deal. It basically came down to your macro. At 6:40 you were floating 1000 minerals. Your gas income was also HALVED because you never destroyed his assimilator in your base. You got supply blocked for a pretty good amount of time, and you have 2 Gateways at 6:44.

At this point he had 2 Gateways done, one building, and a Robotics Facility with an Immortal on the way. And he had morphed his Gateways to Warp Gates (Which you were a bit late on)

Then you threw down a Nexus and 4 Pylons. Then 2 Forges and a Gateway. You just spent a whole bunch of minerals on non-army investments. Side note- double Forge in PvP is not very good, I would not recommend it. Those upgrades are large investments that are better spent on Colossi tech, then go for upgrades.

Anyway, expanding in PvP is a delicate matter. You shouldn't expand if you haven't won a battle or especially if you have no idea what your opponent is doing. Your opponent could have had DTs out by this time, and you would have no idea. Get your Robo out faster if you can't do probe scouting, and pump and Observer.

Instead of throwing down an expansion and the Forges, etc, see what he's doing. If you see he's macro-ing like crazy, do the same. Have about 3 Gates and 1 Robo on one base, and chrono like a madman. Eventually, if you are both macro-ing, tech up to Colossi.

You missed a whole bunch of warp cycles and spent a lot of resources trying to build up that expansion. He went straight for army. In PvP I rarely expand because expanding is so dangerous. Most of the time, if your macro is good, you can walk in and destroy an expanding Protoss if nothing major has happened in the game yet.

It was sort of an all-in in the sense that he would have had an economic disadvantage if you had held it off.

The main point being: you let yourself get thrown off by the early Stalker skirmishes and gas steal, and your macro slipped. You then reacted poorly with an expansion to compensate. His macro was better and had a larger army, he walked in.

Work on your macro. I'm sure you've heard that a lot. 3Gate 1Robo is a very solid build in PvP. Practice that. Hopefully this wasn't too critical. Keep practicing! If you have any more questions, PM me. Hopefully this helped a bit.

PvT -- How to handle mass drops by brokecollegestudentin starcraft_strategy

[–]Dysruption 0 points1 point ago

Although a reactor on a Starport does signify Medivacs, it does not mean a big drop. Sure, you are probably going to get dropped. But it doesn't mean a death-drop.

Dance your Observer around his army. If you see a long Medivac leaving, you are going to get dropped.

Remember, in PvT, Observers are your best friend. And in late game remember: there is a speed upgrade for them!

PvP What is the "proper" response to hold off a proxy 2 gate after scouting at 12. by Nikorasin starcraft_strategy

[–]Dysruption 1 point2 points ago*

I agree! I guess I assume you wouldn't let the 2gates build in your base. For me, I usually at least move around the starting area to see that kind of thing.

Usually you can hold it if they aren't in your base and you react quickly with ok micro.

I'll look for a replay when I get home. At school now.

EDIT: Here you go. http://drop.sc/174427 I'm MashPotatoes in that game. It's my alternate account. He didn't do it perfectly, but I scouted the normal proxy location on the map, put down my second gate, and kept teching. :D

[Silver PvZ] Where did I go wrong? by ArbitraryAnswersin starcraft_strategy

[–]Dysruption 4 points5 points ago

Hi there!

I watched the replay. Here are my tips.

You didn't use Chronoboost! You had plenty of it all game. Unless you are saving it for a specific purpose, CB EVERYTHING on two bases! CB research, upgrades, probes, gateways, whatever!

Typically if you let a Zerg get 3 bases while you are on 2 without pressuring, you're behind. So, I suggest learning a build that incorporates early pressure. I suggest this: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=287970

Early Zealot pressure would have CRIPPLED this Zerg.

Your macro slipped a bit, and you were floating resources at 15 minutes. I'm sure you've heard this plenty of times, but macro is the key!

Your composition was what lost you the game, though. Against infestors, zealots are basically useless. In fact, in late game PvZ, you don't want zealots at all. I suggest suiciding them and try to kill some hatcheries or something. At your level, Stalkers, Colossi, a few sentries, Immortals (and eventually archon/mothership) will do the trick. Fungal just screwed you over there. More Colossi and Stalkers would have helped you tremendously.

In other news, your Force Fields weren't half bad. Just work on your macro and composition and you'll do fine. GLHF

[–]Dysruption 8 points9 points ago

Fellow Masters Protoss here! If, like on maps such as Shakuras Plateau, I scout the proxy 2Gate on 12, I throw down a second Gateway and pump Zealots while teching up to Stalkers.

Because you should have a better economy, you can have constant production of zealots while getting gas, cyb core, and stalkers. But you have to keep pumping Zealots until he backs off, or you could run into a situation where he retreats, you think you're safe, and then he overruns you later on.

If you realize he is 2Gating you once you get to his base and you went Gateway>Assim>CybCore, I would throw down another gateway and do the same. Follow same directions. Remember, the reason you are going to win is your economic advantage.

Good luck!
