TROPHY CASE

California Supreme Court To Review Request Of Illegal Immigrant To Practice Law by sohnin law

[–]DoorFrame 0 points1 point ago

Question that I have no idea the answer to: Is it possible to live, go to school, and work in the United States as an illegal immigrant without breaking additional laws, signing false documents, or just lying to people along the way? Setting aside the fact that he could have left when he turned 18, I'm curious how many other times he would have needed to be dishonest in order to stay in the country, go to college, go to law school, work, open bank accounts, get a driver's license, etc. It's possible the answer is 'none' -- that major institutions will all look the other way for someone who is here illegally. It's also possible that the answer is 'a lot' -- that he needed fill out forms and sign documents under oath that requested information about his citizenship and that wouldn't have allowed him to proceed if he told the truth.

I'd be curious to know from someone who has gone through it what the process of living in America is like as an illegal immigrant is like when it comes to honesty. Is it possible to be honest and live here illegally (other than the dishonesty inherent in living here illegally)?

While "trewdat" spams us with links about marijuana in Los Angeles, has anyone considered that he's a government "plant"? by literate_trewdatin LosAngeles

This doesn't make a lot of sense. If the federal government wanted to go after pot smokers, they would just bust every store selling marijuana and take their customer lists/records. It's not like they'd need to do ANY work, whatsoever, to go after pot sellers or smokers in California. No reason to go "undercover" on Reddit when you can walk into any one of the hundreds and hundreds of open and well-advertised pot selling locations and arrest hundreds if not thousands of people quickly and easily.

It makes slightly more sense if it's a state police operation, since the legality is more murky on the state level, but not a lot more sense. I suspect the vast majority of the sellers are not operating within the scope of the state laws, and most "doctors" and "patients" are obviously and fairly openly abusing the statutory regime. Again, if the state wants to go after pot smokers/sellers, it wouldn't have to bother with undercover operations of the sort you're envisioning to do so.

So, yeah, I don't think it's a government plant. Why would any government agency bother?

Therefore, skinny clothing brands should accommodate larger people to make more money.

Wouldn't skinny people stop wearing that brand for the same reason?

Netflix will premiere all 10 new Arrested Development Episodes at once by red_balloonin entertainment

[–]DoorFrame 2 points3 points ago

He didn't say he'd have a hard time comprehending, he said that part of the fun of some shows is thinking about what's going to happen next and discussing your thoughts in a group environment. By producing and releasing all the shows at once, Netflix will take away that aspect of the viewing experience.
