TROPHY CASE

Q: A woman has a successful surgery. Who does she thank (pick two)? A: Doctors, Nurses, God, People praying for her by mepperin TheFacebookDelusion

[–]DiamondBack 7 points8 points ago

How much would you bet that if she has a relapse it will be all the doctor's fault? There is no winning with a delusional person.

I could just as reasonably ask that question of anyone who expresses an opinion... including yourself. That said, Ramsay is intelligent, well traveled, knowledgeable about food and a parent. Perhaps you should at least hear what someone like that has to say and then evaluate his PoV on its merits.

Were they in the loop? Seems like this took a lot of people by surprise.

My g/f commented that a lot of people were probably peeking out their windows while holding their weapons of choice. As for myself, I grabbed my scanner instead of a gun and was monitoring Miami police and MIA tower.

Some guy caught some of it on video and sent it to WSVN. I'm a little too far from the Grove to have seen any of it, but after a few passes the jets got me out of bed and out the door. The last time I saw a fighter fly over my house was on 9/11, so it brought back a few memories.

Trust me, I know the difference between an F-16 and a UH-60. The 16s were practicing strafing a "terrorist missile site" located at City Hall in Coconut Grove. Their flight path took them directly over where I live (just north of the Grove) several dozen times.

BTW, the Brickell training took place last year. Last night they were staging an attack on the Mayfair Hotel and then egressing from Peacock Park, both are located in Coconut Grove.

I had a couple F-16s doing passes over my house last night starting around 3am. It sort of gets your attention, you know? I wish they would mention these things in advance so we would know what was going on.

This lie that has been ingrained in my head for years is finally fading away by [deleted]in keto

[–]DiamondBack 0 points1 point ago

Nope, no twitching of any kind. I do occasionally utter a slight sigh of despair after reading some of your posts.

BTW, if I were sending subliminal messages then, by definition, you would not be consciously aware of them. I get a little apprehensive when someone starts insisting they are picking-up subliminal messages. It reminds me of Charles Manson when he thought The Beatles were trying to communicate with him through the White Album while he interpreted the Book of Revelation in ways not much different from your own. Bad combination, very, very bad.

I'm pretty sure I know the meaning behind what I write and there is nothing subliminal about it.

You're welcome, and good luck. For me, the first few years were the toughest, anytime one of my friends lit-up I'd be tempted to bum one off them. But after a while the temptation started to turn to aversion and I didn't want to be anywhere near a lit cigarette. Now I'm at the point where it really doesn't bother me unless I'm in a smoke-filled room, which would probably bother anyone who doesn't smoke.

The only real problem I faced was weight gain, I went from being around 210 lbs (I'm 6') to 240 as of last Dec, which is when I started to get serious about diet (low carb) and exercise (aerobics and free weights). As of a few days ago I'm under 200 (198.6 as of today). Maybe by next Jan I'll be posting in both r/stopsmoking and r/loseit. :)

I have a question: For how long has Earth's atmosphere been capable of supporting human life/higher mammals? I understand that ancient cyanobacteria where the first to begin producing oxygen, but at what point in the timeline would there have been a sufficient mixture of gases in the atmosphere to support a person (a time traveler for example)?

I mostly agree with you. In Cronkite's day, the news department was held to be sacrosanct. News was kept separate from the entertainment divisions of the network, and for the most part the corporate guys kept their hands off, if for no other reason than to maintain the credibility of their news organization. A lot has changed since then.

Where I disagree with you is that having news reporting from opposite sides of the political spectrum is working out. What we need is credible centralist reporting where all sides of an issue can be heard, followed by reporters who will fact check the claims and help the viewers ascertain who is telling the truth. As it stands now, "the truth" does not depend on factual supporting evidence, but on who you choose as your primary (often only) news source. The further our news outlets swing to polar extremes, the most distorted reality becomes for most people.

According to the AP, there were about a dozen people at that rally carrying firearms. Unless you can present any evidence that every one of them, or at least a majority, were black men, then nothing in the MSNBC report was technically a lie. It's an easily verifiable fact that white men have shown-up at Obama town hall meetings carrying weapons, do you deny that? I'd say that in this instance MSNBC was guilty of some shoddy editing, and Contessa Brewer is arguably not brightest of the talking heads, but to call this "heinous" is to overstate the seriousness of the offense by many orders of magnitude. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but come on, get real.

Now from my PoV, NBC at its worst is an improvement over Fox at its best. Not that there is anything I could possibly write which would convince you of that, so I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree.

There is no "spin." A producer at NBC stepped over the line and he got shit-canned. When was the last time, or even the first time, that has happened at Fox News?

Way to go, dude. I started smoking when I was 16, twice I was able to quit for at least a month before starting again. Then, in January 2003, I used the patch and managed to quit for good. I'm looking forward to my 10-year smoke-free anniversary next year. You'll get there, too... forget about the setbacks and go all in this time.

[–]DiamondBack -1 points0 points ago

It was absolutely wrong for NBC to have done that. However, they admitted to what they did, issued a formal apology and then fired the producer who was responsible. That's what sets them, and pretty much everyone else, apart from Fox News.

Some Canadian Health Experts Have Noticed The Drug War and "Tough on Crime" Things Not Working So Well by maxwellhillin canada

[–]DiamondBack 16 points17 points ago

Honestly, it isn't the American government which is the root of the problem, they are only the enforcers for the people who stand to profit from draconian drug laws, such as law enforcement agencies, the prison industry, pharmaceutical corporations, etc. As long as the criminalization of drugs remains profitable, they will remain illegal no matter how many thoughtful opinion pieces are published. Canada has always shown a willingness to break ranks with the US when it is in their best interest to do so, the problem here is greed... and that knows no borders.

Fox is so biased. by davisbm2in Conservative

[–]DiamondBack -10 points-9 points ago

Bias isn't the problem, distorting facts is the problem. I agree with you that all news outlets reflect the personal biases of their owners to some extent, but what Fox News does crosses over the line from "news" to "propaganda." If Fox (or anyone else) wants to report on the day's events from a particular PoV, that's fine. But when they misreport the day's events (and later claim it was only an "innocent mistake" or intended to be "entertainment") and do so on a continuing basis, then they have set themselves apart from most real news organizations.

Where did I ever state that the US wasn't Europe's defender? I specifically quoted and then refuted, with a little help from a NATO expert, your "imminent invasion" claim. Not only wasn't an invasion imminent, but there weren't even plans for an offensive strike.

As for the current administration "agreeing" with me, I seriously doubt they would on many issues. I'm not a Democrat and I have harbored doubts about Obama practically since the day he announced his candidacy, doubts which were all but confirmed when an choose Biden as a running mate. So please, spare me your tired old condescending bullshit. That said, I put 90% of the blame for our current mess on the obstructionist assholes in Congress and their elitist paymasters who have done everything in their power to harm America in the selfish pursuit of making their political opponents look like failures.

[–]DiamondBack 1 point2 points ago

No, my post was a sober, objective analysis based on many years of study, both inside and outside university classrooms. To support my first argument I linked to an analysis written by a NATO researcher, none of which you could refute. My second argument stands on its own merits.

And what did you respond with? Pure ad hominem. You called an educated, 51-year-old adult who was attempting to engage you in good faith, a "spoiled little child." That says nothing about me, but a whole hell of a lot about you. BTW, when your entire reply consists of insults and moronic screaming, it means you lost the debate.

A huge amount of the U.S.'s military investment was committed to keeping Europe safe from what would have otherwise been an imminent invasion by the U.S.S.R.

May I ask what you base this contention upon? You state it as if it were a historical fact, yet historians are most certainly not of one mind on this issue. In fact, since the opening of Warsaw Pact documents proceeding the end of the Cold War, evidence of Stalin's fear of a Western invasion and the defensive plans on the part of the Soviets seriously challenges your "imminent invasion" scenario. I would like to draw your attention to this article from the NATO Review website: Reassessing the Cold War alliances. Based on the new evidence, not only was a Warsaw Pack invasion of Western Europe never "imminent," it was never even part of their planning. Again, this is a NATO assessment, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it and then reassess your current position as the facts no longer appear to lend support your claim.

We didn't worry about space exploration until we had the basics taken care of, like plumbing, electricity, and food.

And where are we today? We have just fought two trillion dollar wars of choice which have been charged to our children. Meanwhile, poverty in the US is rising, fewer people have access to healthcare, millions of homes are sitting vacant having been foreclosed on, and... well, do I even need to list the rest? The only needs that are seriously being addressed in the US are those of our most prosperous. You know... just like North Korea. Granted, the scale is different, but from a morality perspective we aren't all that different, and if the current trends continue, many Americans could find themselves just as penniless as a N. Korean. So while I have to agree that we didn't piss our national treasure away on space exploration, we have certainly been pissing it away on military adventurism. How is that in any way morally superior?
