My university has a degree in network security and electronics. Planning on finishing that grabbing net+ a+ sec+ and ccna while finishing. Then try to get into a CEH program (hopefully work sponsored).

Holy crap. by darksim905in sysadmin

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 1 point2 points ago

Not a sysadmin nor do I intend to be. I'm actually going into network security but the wisdom I get from you guys will help one day. I constantly read your talks about active directory and exchange and server2008 and it makes me appreciate you guys even more. The computers I use at school work because of people I never see until it breaks. I try to figure out answers when one for you asks about a problem you have. My brain hurts then someone really answers and I file it away for future use. I also like seeing your discussions on Bourbon and Scotch and which one works better.

I guess you could say, the real problem is in the...reel.

A California Woman Blinded for 'Contempt of Cop': Hernandez who was suspected of drunk driving, resisted being handcuffed. Cop used a JPX device to fire a stream of pepper-spray at her at close-range - "blowing apart her right eye and leaving the left with severe, irreparable damage." by maxwellhillin politics

[–]Derpfacewunderkind -2 points-1 points ago

You know I agree with you. Drinking and driving is bad. Very bad. Taze her fuck all times if you have to but losing both your eyes?! Cruel and unusual punishment is outlawed for a reason. He should have known better than to deploy that weapon that close to the head. At that range its similar to if not worse than a blank round. Which even blank rounds can kill. I think he knew what he was doing but didn't want to use a firearm because it hadn't escalated to a deadly force situation yet.

The FBI took -- and mysteriously returned -- their server. Here's their story by tvz1in sysadmin

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for clearing that up. So on that thought tree unless they were informed of it, if they found government issue spyware they could then divulge that information unless they said "we put X on your computer but you can't tell anyone." But that would defeat the purpose of "spyware". I think I'm going to quit thinking about this. Its starting to hurt. Lol

I don't mean to sound like a 486 in a field of pentiums but.... Why is it illegal for them to say if something was placed on their computer? Would they not be able to check public records for a wiretap warrant if it was sanctioned? Assuming "it" is like the monitoring software on Sabus computer.

Looking for advice on student dorm infrastructure by Raptor51in networking

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 1 point2 points ago

I agree. All the firewalls in the world wont help you if I can pour a cup of water in your fan vent. (Thanks to Kevin mitnick)

I think for a dorm your priority at first should be physical security then CYA. By this I mean, a dhcp server or at least a router that can do it. And block the common ports for p2p traffic. This way you protect yourself from most dmca takedown notices. And then you can check your logs to see if someone changes the port they use or is tunnelling. Are you running new cabling as well? Are you upgrading to 10/100/1000 or are we at this point just focused on making it work?

Best "gaming" router for two roommates with gaming PCs and 2x 360s? [x-post from r/gaming] by dcgigsin networking

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 1 point2 points ago*

Id recommend a router you can throw ddwrt or tomato on. They allow you to set up QoS and dictate which ips get priority bandwidth. Basically everything they said except I've had horrible experience with netgear and dlink. Id recommend Linksys flashed with custom firmware. The folks over on /r/homenetworking would be a better spot for this I believe. But I didn't want to tell you "wrong place!!" Yes. Keep in mind what they said about Gigabit being most important for streaming LAN content.

Edit: just saw the retarded about networking comment. What's your budget look like? This will help me suggest a router that can do what you need it to. Also, do you know your Roommate? Does he torrent things? How much do you need to cover your butt?

This is false. A quick Google search will show that recently federal courts have declared the first amendment extends protection to the people. It may be illegal on the books but it is a law that has been nearly unanimously declared. unconstitutional in all cases. A quick Google search yields multiple citations and cases. Edit- declared was declares.

This cop....not bad by desmoinesdavidin videos

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 0 points1 point ago

I hate that in some states its absolutely legal to carry a firearm openly but some people call the police because someone is exercising their state and constitutional right to do so. As someone who open carries I respect this officer immensely. He was courteous, announced his reason for a Terry stop, (legal by the way) and asked for identification. The guy was being a jerk and "exercised" his right to not respond. It was fully within this officer's legal options to detain him until such time that his identity could be proven. He could have taken him "downtown" to identify him to make sure he could legally possess the firearm. Exercising rights is one thing but, show some respect to an officer acting respectful. If you choose to open carry know what it entails. /endrant

So 10 years ago my good friend got attacked by Secret Service agents when they were out drinking at a bar (they bit off his ear). The SS covered it up and got away with it. Now its coming back out. Can we help my buddy get a new trial? by deltamike34in AskReddit

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 1 point2 points ago

This is inaccurate. Ianal but the legality of bars and concealed carry is left to the states. In Indiana for example it is ( as of last time I had to travel there) legal to carry a concealed firearm into a bar as long as you blow a 0.00 breathalyzer if asked.to. However in Kentucky it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm into a bar. Definitions being Firearm- a weapon firing a projectile by means of explosion. Loaded- a firearm that has either one of or both a bullet in the chamber of the firearm OR a magazine with ammunition loaded in the magazine well. The caveat, sworn peace officers and federal agents may legally carry concealed firearms in places restricted to most normal ccdw permit holders. So legally they could have their guns on them. Morally they were stupid for mixing alcohol and firearms. Good luck to your friend.

Which book changed your life and when? by the_swishin AskReddit

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 0 points1 point ago

logged in to post this exact book. I'm glad to see someone else's life was changed by this book. I enjoyed this book so much I read the other books 'Abundance of Katherines" and "paper towns". they are equally as good. Nothing changed my life more than the one passage, "If people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane."

I'm not certain, but there are SOME places where if a killing is ruled self defense and no charges are filed the accused (Zimmerman in this case) becomes immune to suit from the family of the deceased. I'd give examples and statutes if I could but Combat Handgunner talked about it recently.

So how many others here see human figures in their rooms when they wake from a lucid dream? by FloridaRoadkillin LucidDreaming

Can Lucid Dreaming interrupt your rest? by Fo-in LucidDreaming

[–]Derpfacewunderkind 0 points1 point ago

Possibly because wilding involves interrupting an REM cycle only to return to another cycle which carries the possibility of waking up before the cycle is over. From personal experience if I wake during a sleep cycle 7hours in, I'm more tired than waking after a full cycle of only 3-5 hours.
