TROPHY CASE

IWTL to be sexy (I'm a guy) by lookingaround12in IWantToLearn

[–]DanielTaylor 0 points1 point ago

There are four very important conditions you need to fulfill in order to be truly attractive and therefore sexy:

  1. Be self confident and proud of yourself.
  2. Don't be a douchebag: don't make others feel miserable with your pride and self esteem.
  3. Be happy :D
  4. Stick to the points above and give it time.

Most people I've met in real life that have doubts about their appeal and attractiveness, often have low self esteem or are obsessed following external ideal that don't match up to what they really like and enjoy in life and make them feel miserable.

TIL that Greenland is projected 14 times larger than it really is on a map by Derk444in todayilearned

[–]DanielTaylor -2 points-1 points ago

What I don't understand is why we couldn't use the Gall-Peter's Projection (extreme example) for navigation.

Yes, the shapes are stretched out, but it still has straight lines drawn all over it, right? So, how exactly is mercator better for navigation? That's something I've never quite understood.

I don't get it. What does a drivers license have to do with an "F in Sex"? How would something like that even be on there, or anything that resembled it and could be misunderstood?

Edit: Oh wait.. Sex... Female... get it now.

YSK about the passing lane on all multi-lane highways. by MojoJoshin YouShouldKnow

[–]DanielTaylor 6 points7 points ago

If no one's in front of you, why don't you just pull to the right lane and continue over there at your desired speed? (Assuming, as you said, that there's no one in front of you, including the right lane).

YSK about the passing lane on all multi-lane highways. by MojoJoshin YouShouldKnow

[–]DanielTaylor 16 points17 points ago

Here's how we do it in Europe (or at least I).

As long as the right lane is occupied and you're going faster than them, you can stay on the left. It doesn't matter if 1, 10 or 100 cars behind you want to go faster. As long as you keep passing the cars on your right, you can stay in the left.

Once you see an open space in the right, though, you MUST change lanes. It is forbidden to drive on the left lane if the right one is free and you can get fined for doing it.

Summing up: The left lane is entitled to everyone who keeps passing the cars on the right, until you find a reasonable sized open space. That's how I learnt it in driving school and I'm really surprised that this isn't common knowledge in the US.

What do US citizens do if the want to study two or more "University Study Courses"? by DanielTaylorin TrueAskReddit

May I ask why do you want to study in the US?

[–]DanielTaylor[S] 1 point2 points ago

Thank you for your answer! Do you know if there is any way in the US to study in higher education (bachelor, master and/or doctorate) without having to ask for a loan?

Maybe there's a taxfunded university somewhere?

Since you seem to understand more of the matter than I do, I'd like to ask you (and whoever might read this), a question.

From a greek point of view, and not caring for the effects it could have on the rest of europe, wouldn't it be better for the greek economy to just ditch the Euro and start rebuilding themselves with a currency they can control?

Constant use of GPS reduces our ability to develop "mental maps" and we become bad at navigating without them. by DanielTaylorin LowtechLiving

[–]DanielTaylor[S] 0 points1 point ago

Well, it all depends on your circumstances and needs. Some of us (at least that's my case) don't want to become dependent on a certain technology or device.

In my eyes, it seems wrong and potentially dangerous.

¡Saludos!

Lowtech Living: Because sometimes, less technology in our lives can make us happier, reduce stress and improve live quality. by DanielTaylorin newreddits

Not necessarily. Or at least not in this case. It's al based on individual needs and perception.

If you think that you can be happier without a computer, go ahead, do so and please share your experiences on the subreddit!

For others, it's just the little things like using their cellphones less or avoid becoming dependant on a certain technology.

Is it possible for a solar system to have planets that orbit their star in opposite directions? by TofuVelcroin askscience

[–]DanielTaylor 9 points10 points ago

But the direction in which they spin depends on your viewpoint. The same movement can be seen as counterclockwise or clockwise depending on where you stand.

I don't have experience with smartphones since I don't own one, but I've got a similar experience with GPS devices.

I think they are a great invention and very very useful, but they're not for me when driving. I found that out after I noticed how much better I felt driving without one after having been using it for a couple of months.

With a GPS device in my car I was constantly focusing on what it was saying and what route it was displaying. I would often make mistakes because I trusted it too much and all in all it became a very stressful experience.

Now, If I need to go somewhere new I just take a look at a map the day before leaving and memorize the important merges and roads. If the route is too long I might also print out the map and take it with me.

I now drive much more confidently, calmer and successfully learned how to interpret and understand signs in a very efficient way. I even went on a long trip through Europe that way and everything went great. I only got lost once because I took an exit too early (the map wasn't updated) but in only a couple of minutes I was able to find my way back again thanks to the fact that I understood how road signs and directions worked.

So, all in all, I do perfectly fine without a GPS device. I would probably still carry one for emergency purposes, though, if it wasn't because the one I have discharges it's battery after a couple of days unplugged.

Cast Iron, Butter, and My Dad's Eggs by diurnal_emissionsin LowtechLiving

[–]DanielTaylor 0 points1 point ago

Well, I do believe that butter is healthy if consumed in appropriate amounts. Our bodies need fat to live and survive, after all.

Completely eliminating butter or similar products from your diet, which are absolutely natural, would be, if you ask me, totally unnecessary. I'm pretty sure that you can eat butter and be the healthiest person in the world.

So, the key is to be aware of the amounts you're ingesting.
