Carrying passport on you while traveling?

I'd say keep anything identification related in the hotel safe. You aren't likely to be asked for your US driver's license or passport while wandering around Paris. If it makes you feel better, make a photocopy of your license and passport picture page to carry in your wallet just to prove that you have both if it ever comes up. And for pete sake, put your wallet in your front pocket.

I was in a similar situation 10 years ago. My particular predicament was that I knew no one other than the bride and groom. They were/are really good friends of mine, but I'd never met most of their family, and none of the extended guest list. On the day of the wedding, I didn't have a clue what to say in that reception room. So I went back to the church ceremony and the vows, and took it from there:

"In church today, we heard a lot about what it takes to make a successful marriage. Things like love, respect, and honor. In the ten years that I have known you both, I have seen nothing but. I wish you luck, but I know you don't need it. Congratulations, _____ and _____ ."

Don't talk to the crowd, talk to the bride and groom; the people you know. Look them right in the eye.Then sit down, stfu, and let the events go where they go. You can take off your tie and go keg diving at this point.
