ELI5: How it was possible to host '10th' lobbies on MW2. Was there an exploit in the engine/code or was there a certain thing these 'JTAG' Xbox's did? by ChadMartin14in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChadMartin14[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thank you, very much! I don't know what was up with all the hostile downvotes. I read that it was an exploit in the old dashboard that allowed you to modify the ROM/Load unsigned firmware. It just didn't click with how people could modify the 'variables' and 'rules' set. Thanks for clearing it up.

How Hard is it to build a "hackintosh" by bleu_gasconin buildapc

[–]ChadMartin14 7 points8 points ago

It's not difficult at all. You have to use a install disc like iATKOS. Just make sure all your parts are compatible with OS X. I think lifehacker does a tutorial. So does Tonymac. I would just google compatible parts.

You should get your basic certifications. I.e. A+, Strata, etc.

The guy before recommended Turtle Beach. I can second that. I'm in the same boat as you are. I have the X11's and they are great. They're very durable, I picked mine up on sale for about ~45$. They are about 60$ retail.

[Troubleshooting]xpost. Upgraded Mobo/Pros/Ram, Audio troubles ensues. Extremely frustrated and in need of help. by Happymilkin buildapc

[–]ChadMartin14 0 points1 point ago

This is an issue with that MoBo. I have the Extreme4 version of that MoBo. The problem (for me) comes from having two audio out devices plugged in at once. For example, having speakers plugged into the front and headphones plugged into the back.

What you can do is drop the MoBo down to something like an ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 and that will save you somewhere around ~100$. I would use that extra money to bump up your GPU card up to a 6950. That will give you A LOT of extra power. Everything else looks pretty good.

That video card may bottlekneck the CPU that you picked. I would, if you could fit it into your budget, go up to a 560. Everything else looks pretty good.

It looks like one of the old Apple/IBM keyboards. That port on the side is called PS2. It was use to plug a mouse into. Could you take a picture of the end wire, and I could tell you if you could use it.

You do realize that a BSOD looks exactly the same no matter what OS you have installed, right? I sure hope you were trolling.

IMO, you only need MSE to do auto scans once a week, and MBAM to manually scan when you feel its needed, or to scan a just-now downloaded item.

Quick subnet question by [deleted]in 24hoursupport

[–]ChadMartin14 1 point2 points ago

IP Addresses and subnet masks are set up like your house address. Your public IP address is your street address. The packet has has your public, mac, and subnet mask. The IP is your street, the MAC is your house, and the subnet mask is the layout of your street, so it knows where it should go.

Did I clear that up? If not, I can go in a bit more detailed.

You might have to download more RAM to do that.

Notebook CPU Upgrade? by P4ngurB4nin buildapc

[–]ChadMartin14 1 point2 points ago

It's definitely possible. It is EXTREMELY difficult. It's not like a PC. All the items are stacked on too of each other. To get to it, you have to take the back off, HDD out, Optical drive out, etc... And the screws aren't normal 1/8th inch screws. They are very tine tiny screws.
