And I am upset by the popularity of the Dark Knight...which was solely based on the death of Heath Ledger who did the worst Joker I've ever witnessed

You are in the extreme minority on this one. Solely based on the death of Heath Ledger? You know.. Batman Begins and the Batman character (and the joker character.. not the actor) might have had something to do with it. Ledger's death may have increased hype, but there was already massive interest in the project. Thought I don't exactly need to come up with excuses for why people would be interested in a Batman movie.

And I disagree with you on his performance, it was extremely good, and that has nothing to do with his death.

Why is this constantly used as an argument to defend a terrible story? It's the same argument as "it's just a movie... turn off your brain an enjoy".

Why do you think the Dark Knight made more money than the Green Lantern? It's because people care, even if it's fictional, whether or not the story insults their intelligence or not. They also care about how well a story is told and how well they can relate to the characters.

Battlefield Earth is amongst the worst movies ever made. I wasn't trying to belabor that point, I was just pointing out that its connection to Scientology wasn't why it flopped.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you don't understand why people are upset. You seem to think the issue is simply the manner in which they are killed. The real issue is that the animals are kicked, beaten and treated poorly for their entire lives.

If you knew that, then please continue reading:

You don't understand why it's not ok to torture animals?

Just because it's eventually going to be killed and eaten doesn't meant hat giving it a life of misery and pain is suddenly ok.

The animals could be treated kindly, fed well, and then killed ethically, or you could simply beat and abuse the animal for its entire life. What does the second scenario gain you? It gains you nothing. All it does it allows people with no sense of empathy to continue being cruel monsters.

This "stupidity" puzzles you? It all comes down to having empathy for other creatures that are suffering. It is possible to both treat an animal well and then eat it.

If this doesn't seem like a worthwhile effort to you, then I suspect you aren't the sort of person who likes to help out other people as well.

The movie didn't even reference scientology, it was just the most insultingly stupid, terribly made, in-comprehendibly contrived movie ever made.

** spoilers **

In the movie, the earth is taken over by aliens in the year 2000. One thousand years later, humans that are living as if they are in the dark ages defeat these same aliens with 1000 year old technology. How? They learn to fly harrier jets. The power systems still work. That is all.

RCMP ‘to ease Canadians into the idea’ of U.S. agents in Canada by iheartbakonin canada

Do a google search on US extraordinary rendition and include the words sweden or italy (or read the book Ghost Plane) and see how bold US agents have been on the soil of other countries. Granted, they have had cooperation with those governments, but give them an inch and human rights atrocities will take place.

Why are kids being forced to pledge allegiance to anything? Doesn't it go against the foundation of education in general to make kids agree to something that they can't yet fully comprehend.

Instead we should be helping them learn, and eventually they will make the best judgement they see fit.

I honestly don't know if people like this know they're dysfunctional. We live in a society that places financial success as the defining standard for how skilled and competent we are. The rich are fawned over, and frankly, once you hit a certain amount of wealth and status, you are started to be given a different set of rules. The wealthy are often let off the hook for offenses like drug use and theft, where poor people in the same scenario would have the book thrown at them.

While I agree with you fundamentally, we live in a society that tacitly sends a completely different message. In that context, you can see how easy it is for people to not see themselves as being dysfunctional or needing help, but as a resourceful player who knows how to fully massage the loopholes in our society to get ahead, just like everyone else would do in their position (this analysis is from their own perspective...).

This is a compulsion for many many people. There is no amount of money that can satisfy them. I usually compare it to over-eaters, there's something missing or broken internally that would usually tell you to stop.

Sadly, a lot of people with this sort of compulsion end up in the financial industry. Berne Madoff is an example of someone who just had no limits to his compulsive greed.

I would like to ask.. For the people quitting after using it every day, would you have considered getting drunk every day and thinking that was acceptable?

I think the problem here for most people us moderation and it doesn't matter which drug or substance it is, it's going to cause you problems.
