TROPHY CASE

Best overall stylus for iPad with screen protector installed? by jcosmain ipad

[–]CJSchmidt 0 points1 point ago

The flat tip is on a ball joint and sits flat from almost any angle. It's clear too, so you can see exactly where you're writing. It's a little strange looking, but it's the best out there for precision.

If it doesn't work out, I'd be glad to trade as well.

I think the version you buy in a glass bottle uses cane sugar - all the stuff in cans and plastic went HFCS a while ago.

I posted this up higher, but ginger ale is generally sweet soda with a touch of ginger while ginger beer is ginger soda with a touch of sweet. Vernors is right on the line probably. The carbonation and ginger is about right for a mild ginger beer, but it's really sweet. Great stuff though.

I describe it as:

Ginger Ale: Sweet with a touch of ginger.

Ginger Beer: Ginger with a touch of sweet.

("Beer" as in root beer - non-alcoholic for those wondering.)

Vernors was my gateway ginger beer. Wish it was easier to find the real stuff in the US.

Places to buy a hookah? by fasterflame21in desmoines

There's a discount smoke shop on 14th south of 235. Looks scary, but they've gots a good selection. David's Briar Shoppe at Merle Hay mall has some too apparently.

We’ve got hard data: Netflix really is killing Nickelodeon (and helping AMC) by woohoo47in television

[–]CJSchmidt 4 points5 points ago

No surprise at all. Kids are much less picky about "new" content and they don't get to control the remote. I'd much rather toss my kid the iPad and have them watch the old cartoons I enjoyed than give up the TV or have them watch in a different room.

Why are more people not excited about this?! by halogen1212in zefrank

I think he's trying too hard. I'm sure it's a delicate balance pleasing new and old fans, but I'd love to see him lighten things up and talk about news or stick his fingers in fruit for a bit then slowly build up to the more personal projects. I feel like most of the show so far has just been him talking about the show.

It must be a nightmare trying to find a balance between the shops and digital, but where do you see comic publishing 10-20 years from now? Does a Netflix-style all-you-can eat subscription model ever make sense? What are the biggest challenges publishing a paper book in a .99 cent iTunes world?

I ask this because I love my local shop and will always buy comics, but part of me longs for something a bit more modern.

This could be said about all media. Something like Doctor Who that appeals to everybody equally.

He gave an interview recently where he admitted that that trope was getting a little stale. Of course, he could have just been trying to throw people off his scent, but Cabin in the Woods sort of bucks the trend (sort of...).

Fury starts the call just as the medics arrive, yet claims they "called it" before getting a chance to administer CPR or anything like that. They might leave him dead, but they sure left the door open to bring him back without any trouble.

Tiny but important. His conversation with Banner is what convinces him that he might be able to direct the Hulk, if not control him.

It did seem to cause some damage too - he had to dump the energy through the chest cannon right away. Probably not a good idea in a beat up suit holding on to a live nuke. Plus, they're new at the teamwork thing and it would take a little while to figure out and organize tricks like that.

I buy that for the first movie, but giving the suit its own power source would be pretty high on the list once the technology was reproducible. He made suits for other people (war machine) and ones that could operate without anyone inside. If I had a pacemaker, I wouldn't run my iPod off of it.

First, they point out that the armor isn't finished yet. They he flies all over Manhattan battling aliens (crashing into things and getting shot with alien tech). Jarvis tells Tony that he'll run out of energy before his lasers cut through the giant flying snake thing and then he "puts everything into thrusters" - implying that power might be an issue. Then he flies through an energy portal into the vacuum of space. They established that the suit was in bad shape. A lightning strike might have just blown him to bits.

The Avengers second post credits scene. by thoradoxin videos

I always stay for the credits. You chat with your friends about the movie, make fun of the animator's names, and debate what exactly a grip and best boy do. You'd be surprised how many movies throw an extra scene or joke in the credits. You paid a lot of money to sit in that room - why the rush to leave?

My local comic shop rented the theater for a fan-only screening. Not a single person moved until the rating screen came up. It was beautiful.

I'm not sure where Brandonazz lives, but advent calendars are definitely a U.S. tradition.

You can find them at a few places if you keep an eye out, but they aren't very common. Our family likes to try out new holiday traditions each year - crackers, mince tarts and Slade have all stuck around.

Mac, what do you think is "easier" on your Mac than on your Win7? I want to see for myself. by catsfivein mac

[–]CJSchmidt 1 point2 points ago

I find that I have the "get stuff done" window and the "email/aim/skype/etc" window for that reason. Works for me, but I used to use a free app called "SecondBar" that would add a menu to your extra screens. Might be worth checking out.

They appeal to everybody - the fact that Macs are so accessible to "computer illiterates" just really stands out. Heck, most of the academics I know use it for the same reason - the OS is straightforward, stable and gets out of the way.

All iPad/iPhone owners should turn this on and make sure everyone they know turns it on. If most iPhones/iPads were locked down, they would be much less valuable to thieves.
