I didn't hear anything, I think it's due to the poop filter on the microphone.

Anybody try to get Prince tickets today? by Bit_Blitterin australia

[–]Bit_Blitter[S] 1 point2 points ago

Well I ended up getting the tickets I wanted.

The site was alternating between saying the show I wanted was sold out, the ticket type I wanted was sold out, there were only single seats available of the ticket type I wanted, and just crashing completely.

I kept trying in the hope that it the site would randomly behave in my favour and so it did.

Selecting the ticket type I wanted wasn't working, but when I told it to give me the best available tix, I got that type anyway.

Point down in the drying rack is where I found my Henckel after a friend finished with it. He thought he was being helpful by washing it. I told him next time to just leave it dirty.

Anyone else going to the Krause/Dawkins Lecture tonight in Sydney? by SpinningDespinain sydney

[–]Bit_Blitter 1 point2 points ago

I was there! Pity I didn't see this post before, I would have been looking out for you guys.

Lol at the guy who thought he'd stump Dawkins with the "So what came before the fish?" question.

The link misses the first 30 seconds of it. If you watch from the start you'll see him trying to out stare the lion. Some half hearted attempt at trying to be the Alpha or something.

Strange experience last night in Glebe... by wewerejustwrestlingin sydney

Ha! No way that tourists staying in one of the many hostels around couldn't find weed. My wife once asked me, "Who in the world would buy a parsley chopper from a convenience store on Glebe Pt Road?"

Truth is a description of a real world fact, e.g. "An apple will fall if you drop it" is true. It is not applicable to intangible concepts or thoughts, e.g. "2 + 2 = 4" is not 'true', it is however 'valid'.

so: "This sentence is false" is not a paradox, it is not even a sentence.

"This sentence is valid", is a true statement.

"This sentence is invalid", is a false statement.

TIL about the date_sunrise() and date_sunset() functions by piglet24in PHP

[–]Bit_Blitter 0 points1 point ago

Exactly... you need to do that mess of functions.

You'd think while they were putting in the 'sunrise' function they may have thought of a simple function that does this. I use it in almost every project I build.

Except one that tells you if a string contains another string e.g. something like this.

bool str_contains ( string $haystack , mixed $needle )

Why the 2.x version? Do you think things were done better then? I came on board with 3.0 so haven't looked much at it.

Does any one have any recommendations for website/server monitoring services? by Technofroodin webdev

I use http://www.dwarfparadox.com.au/ , it's an Australian service (like me!), but its free and gives pretty good reporting and options.

Does anyone else hate reddit's search? by mosij919in AskReddit

[–]Bit_Blitter 1 point2 points ago

I don't like that there is no submit button. If I want to do a search outside the current subreddit I have to:

  • Click in the search box (mouse)

  • Type my search term (keyboard)

  • Uncheck the 'limit my search to..' checkbox (mouse)

  • Click back in the search box (mouse)

  • Press return to perform the search (keyboard)

Too mucho clicko!

Export php site as an executable application. by Bit_Blitterin PHP

[–]Bit_Blitter[S] 0 points1 point ago

There will be a requirement to save user data to some sort of local storage.

When I get around to it, I'm going to set up a prototype using server2go and see if it can store the database files in a local directory. I may end up building an installer that sets it all up for the user by copying the entire LAMP stack and site files to their local machine.

There is also a live website for this project, the CD version will just mirror the live site for those who have a slow or flaky internet connection. Most users are going to use it online, we just wanted a simple way to allow people to use it who do not have that option. It's a government project, so by law they have to make it available to as many people as possible.

It's a bunch of training and testing scenarios, not something that would have to be constantly updated like a regular website. I agree in most cases this would be a stupid way to present a website.
