I think I would pay actual money to watch an animated gif of them eating soup like that, while being true to their name.

It's shit like this....that keeps me working with technology.

Imagine what a machine that could do this 20 years ago would have looked like. A machine that could calc optimal solutions, then the steps required based on the current orientation, then manipulate the "fingers", etc., etc. etc.

Now, imagine what a machine capable of this will look like 20 years from now.

I don't believe IMTM's hands would be free to manipulate food.

It was originally an HP 6200 I believe. Yes, the case is perfect, excepting that you are forced into half-height video cards with it. That's the sole reason I have a 2nd PC setup on that TV. Most half-heights can't deliver decent frame rates at high res.

2.0.1 doesn't seem to play audio at all on 2 of my systems. There is the occasional oddball codec that VLC doesn't seem to like. I remember the specific codec, but it was an AVI file.

Awesome explanation. Thanks for taking the time to post this..

I know the warp factor your talking about. I got lucky in that mine didn't have too much warp out of the box. Very little really. I can only see it when I look for it.

I'm also considering a "real projector" when this one kicks. I miss LED/LCD/Plasma crispness, but the huge size spoils you fast..

It's one of the few that work just fine from my lap, 10 feet away, on the sectional you can't see in this pic. I'm also a big fan of this keyboard. HUGE fan of the the zoom rocker on the left and that "make all my windows visible" button under it.

I've done my time with CRTs. I started on tiny green/orange screens, so many years ago. I think I've earned a little monstrous HD..;)

First insanely large TV for me. Everything else looks tiny now..

I had big misgivings about the very same thing before this TV. I've found very little reason to regret this over an LCD/LED/Plasma/etc. in general. Of course, it's not as crisp, but in practice, it doesn't bother me at all.

possibly sooner than you think. These TVs have been coming down in price a great deal over the last year or 2.

The newer version of the same TV I purchased 18 months ago is $1099 w/ free shipping from Tiger Direct. 18 months ago, my deal of $1162 shipped was a killer deal for the time.

How odd. I'm surprised the video card doesn't look it's best at 720p w/ DVi or HDMI. The TV pictured is the Mitsubishi WD73C9 and it natively supports 1080p, so no 1080i problems.

The only real issue with 1080p is at 10 feet away, I needed to bump up the size of the text 1 notch to read it comfortably.

I just meant that it looks better than this picture shows on this TV.

DLP TVs are great for large screen sizes, but the picture isn't as good for some applications. In this case, I think the Mitsu DLPs look great for use on a PC.

I use an old set of logitech speakers. 1 Sub, 2 satellites with 1 tweak, 1 mid ea. The main reason I haven't upgraded is the old logitech sounds awesome. Surprisingly so and loud as hell.

My next set will be a 5.1 with speakers behind us..

What's really sad is when that CRT finally gives up the ghost, you're going to have a hell of a time finding someone that takes CRTs. In our city, you get a ticket if you just toss these out with the regular garbage. City dumps won't take them either.

Ubuntu, like all O/Ses has it's place. I've seen worse builds of *nix. lol

I don't multi-boot since I'm lucky enough to have enough good machines that I run all the OSes I need on a stand-alone and remote into it, if I need the box to do something.

I also needed a gunnery station, an ancillary bridge, a recreation deck, etc.. =)

That's one of the media PCs. The gaming PC that's also normally hooked up to that is offline for the moment. I just replaced the video card and am waiting on an HDD to arrive.

That PC is an Intel E8400 w/ 8 GB of ram and an ATI (3650 I think) card with HDMI, 1 TB HDD.

I have a 4TB NAS on the network (to the right of the PC, 2 blue lights) for main storage, so local storage isn't a big deal.

Under the PC is a SmartUPS APC 3000 to condition power. With the network gear, the NAS, the media PC and the TV, it'll run for roughly 45 mins before the battery is drained.
