Kinder surprise toys are dangerous. by Klokateerin funny

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago

According to the wikipedia entry for Kinder Suprise :

Kinder Surprise originated in 1972 in Italy as Kinder Sorpresa. The German word "Kinder" in the name came about because in 1967, Ferrero's German subsidiary introduced Kinder Chocolate ("Kinderschokolade") to the German market, and in 1968 that product was introduced to Ferrero's native Italy, establishing the "Kinder" brand there, prior to the introduction of the Kinder Sorpresa chocolate eggs. Kinder Surprise eggs were introduced to the German market in 1974, and for many years this was the largest market for the product.

Looks similar to the Dunning-Kruger effect to me.

As Kruger and Dunning conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others"

Shame on you, LA Fitness. by Junaosin keto

[–]Baramin 0 points1 point ago

That's mostly because high intensity exercise requires glycogen, which is build from carbs.

You'd have a hard time exercising with weights in pure keto, hence why it's been adapted to this case in two variants, CKD and TKD.

Firefox UI minimisation by BullNiroin firefox

[–]Baramin 2 points3 points ago

As much as I like my pentadactyl, I wouldn't recommend it for someone who just wants a minimalistic UI. Manipulating Firefox like vim when you're not "tech savvy" to use OP's words is probably very frustrating.

Strange, I felt like leveling was a breeze, especially after I started using the healer companion (spoiler:when Kalyio was taken from me).

I'm really happy to be able to deal more damage, nevertheless.

Apple's business model vulnerability, exposed by a French upstart. Free Mobile, a classic example of “disruptive innovation,” is offering unlimited domestic calls and texts, free calls to many international countries, 3 GB of data per month, and no contract commitment — all for $25 a month. by Suraj-Sunin technology

[–]Baramin 0 points1 point ago*

As of now, their service is less than correct. Up to 46% of the phone calls are lost at peak hours (french article here).

Yesterday, for a few hours, they experienced SMS problems (impossible to send or receive SMS for a lot of clients).

I know they've got good intentions, and are trying to do with mobiles what they've successfully done with ADSL (bring innovation while keeping the cost low), but so far, I wouldn't like to be one of their mobile clients.

Edit: also, they arrive very late in the mobile business. They'll have a VERY hard time installing new antennas, as most citizens are trying to limit the number of antennas in their neighborhood. The other mobile companies managed to sneak upon people while people weren't paying attention to these deployments, but nowadays, authorizations to install antennas are way harder (if not impossible) to get.

I'm seeing a psychotherapist to get over acrophobia (fear of heights). I don't think it's working. Where do I go from here? by moov_atom12in selfhelp

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago

For what it's worth, you can try easily and freely EFT (see here for example but you can probably find a ton of other free explanations on the web).

It feels silly, but it tends to work, even if noone knows why (might only be placebo, but even thinking that, you often get positive results).

Anyway, it's easy, free, has a chance to work, and doesn't affect the other solutions you might wanna try.

Noticed it yesterday too. Seems to be updating, can't cancel updating, doesn't actually finish updating, can't uninstall from Play...

If that helps, I'm using the latest Prime ROM or the one before that (2.1.1 or 2.1.0, can't verify now, I'm at work).

Doesn't look like. It seems like it's free, but needs to be read online (so, not really an ebook in the proper sense).

Yohimbine pre-workout by Moshiachin Supplements

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago

I think 10g BCAA shouldn't affect your Yohimbine's effect. I'm basing this opinion only on the fact that 10g BCAA is a small quantity of Leucine and probably doesn't raise Insulin enough. See this discussion about the exact same subject with nice details.

You mention "thousands of calories a day in fat", does that means that you can still eat thousands of calories a day in protein or carbs ?

Yohimbine pre-workout by Moshiachin Supplements

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago*

True. But avoiding insulin response because you want to stay in the fast, and avoiding insulin response because you want your yohimbine to be useful is the same :) Yohimbine has a 30mn half life, and according to the quote above, having 10g BCAA shouldn't raise your insulin levels long enough to affect its use.
Edit: got the yohimbine half life wrong the 1st time.

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago

Too... much.... information....

Yohimbine pre-workout by Moshiachin Supplements

[–]Baramin 1 point2 points ago

According to Martin Berkham, of Leangains fame, I quote :

Will we still derive the benefits from regular fasting if we consume small amounts of protein throughout the fast post-workout? Yes. If carbs are omitted, the increased insulin sensitivity will quickly bring back basal insulin to fasted state levels despite consuming 120 calories worth of fairly insulinogenic amino acids. The fasted state is almost fully maintained post-workout.

He recommends 10g of BCAA prior to the workout, and then every 2h until you break the fast, starting 30mn before the workout (yes, I know, the quote says "post-workout", but I quoted it for the info about insulin response, which is the same pre-workout).

Awesome little tweak: automatically re-indent on paste by vanillabin vim

[–]Baramin 3 points4 points ago

It's the latter I'd say. with set paste, you'll respect the original indent instead of adding spaces every line. With the OP trick, you'll respect the destination indent.

Researchers found that people who drank diet soft drinks daily were 43 percent more likely to have had a stroke or heart attack, or died of heart disease, than those who did not drink diet soda. by magnumixin science

I hate when I hear people joking about drinking diet coke with a burger. Why do some people think that, if you order ONE very caloric food, it's stupid not to order every other food in its highest caloric version ?

Some people really sound like they're already living in "Idiocracy".
