Did anyone actually watch "Rampart"? How was it? by neotheseventhin movies

[–]Astroturfer 5 points6 points ago

It was shot well, but it was rudderless and bland. He just kind of floats through the movie being a dick with a better vocabulary than his real-life counterpoint would have.

Do you drink caffeine? Eliminate it completely. You may have a hyper sensitivity to it that's making things worse.

DSLR Outage - April 27th Update by da7rutrakin dslreports

Yeah, update was a little muddy, but we will be back. Hopefully fully intact. Just taking time. A lot of annoying, drawn out time.

Should be expensive but doable. $10k-$20k to keep a site afloat that could probably be sold for many times that? (not saying it would be sold, but the value is enough to support keeping it alive).

No gravestone necessary. Site will return. Data is there, it just needs to be restored, which is taking time due to the data recovery labs.

I'm curious here as well. I thought I was supposed to be doing straight barbell curls?

Need more calories, have seen little improvement in the last months by AnonymousKylein gainit

[–]Astroturfer 0 points1 point ago

Problem is, you'll be hard pressed to find anything that delivers as much raw protein as Whey at that cost. $50 nets you a five pound jug that should last you several months:

http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Double-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334498914&sr=8-1

You can also try lots of whole oats oatmel, greek yogurt and milk in a blender, but that also gets expensive and may not be any more economical than Whey...

"your elbows must pass behind the centerline of the side of your body." I'd never heard this. Is this true?

So...I can't put ANY weight on my lower back this morning, after heavy dead lifts yesterday. Time to call the doctor? by fuckedupbackin Fitness

[–]Astroturfer 0 points1 point ago

You're muscles are usually limber and warm when the injury happens, once they cool and tighten the fun you're having begins. Will start to get better after 48-72 hours, after which the heating pad and knees to chest floor stretch are your best friends for a few weeks.

Crazy Squat by mrah4885in Fitness

Isn't that much weight with that form asking for injury?

Crazy Squat by mrah4885in Fitness

I'm still learning and trying to perfect the squat so I'm really just asking. Isn't he good morning-ing up the weight at the end and is that technically good form?

I'm getting bored with SS, should I switch to Greyskull LP or something else (numbers inside) by POTATO_IN_DICKHOLEin Fitness

Nice. I've done something similar by adding dips, chin ups, pull ups, curls and calf raises to the starting strength Novice Beginner Program. Also feel like I need higher sets and reps on chest to feel fully exercised...

[Form Check] Low-Bar Back Squat - 160lbs - Please help me fix this trainwreck. by dontknowsquatin weightroom

[–]Astroturfer 1 point2 points ago

You might want to try squeezing your but at the top of the rep to make sure you're using your glutes. I was doing squats much like you and kind of "good-morning-ing" up too heavy of weights at the tail end of reps and managed to do quite a number on my back. Found that I really wasn't using my ass much in the lift, and squeezing glutes at the top reminded me to keep them engaged. I was also using too much weight before my back and other stabalizers were really ready...

Need more calories, have seen little improvement in the last months by AnonymousKylein gainit

Buy a little personal blender on Amazon ($15) and start making some protein shakes with Whey protein (I like Optimum), Oatmeal, a banana, some milk (or Almond milk) and a few tablespoons of Peanut Butter. Very easy to add 600-900 calories at a pop that way that go down easy and takes little prep. It's the only way I can meet calorie needs as I get tired of stuffing my face and cooking.

Lower bank minor injury by mattmcd87in Fitness

[–]Astroturfer 1 point2 points ago

I was also going too deep with low bar. Low bar should be just to parallel usually, where as high bar can be "ass to grass." I was doing ass to grass low bar, and I think it put too much strain on my lower back. Also, squeeze your butt at the top of the rep as a reminder of engagement. Helped me. Serious about the heating pad after 48 hours. Sped up healing and allowed a deep stretch.

Starting Strength's great, but I think people get a little hyped around here about pushing squat weight up too fast. That's great to say at 20, not so easy at 40 with a life of bad seating habits and all kinds of weak stabilizers that need to get used to working together.

Lower bank minor injury by mattmcd87in Fitness

[–]Astroturfer 0 points1 point ago

I just went through this on starting strength, re-injuring the lower back a few times setting me back several months...so trust me when I say to GO SLOW. Weight until the back feels somewhat, then start back with higher reps at very low weights for squats. Ignore starting Strength rules the first few weeks and just do higher reps (like 12) with lighter weights.

Ice it the first 48 hours when needed, but after that I found that a heating pad for twenty minutes, followed by a stretch holding my knees to chest was absolutely essential.

In my case the problem was a 40 year old desk jockey moving too quickly with squat weights before the universe of supporting stabilization muscles were ready. That and poor form where I was good morning-ing the weight a little instead of fully utilizing glutes with a wide enough stance...
