Chill IT Guy by whatwereyouthinkingin AdviceAnimals

Glad this is at the top so I can reply.

IF your IT guy is competent and he spends more time in front of a computer rather than running around being pissed off, this is a good thing. That means nothing is wrong and he has it all under control. It doesn't mean he's being lazy, it means he's done such a good job that nothing is broken.

I want to set up a security camera to a hard-drive to continuously record, i have a hard drive, but what kind of camera should i get(cheap) and how set up? is it possible? by internetznoobin techsupport

Bullet is a general statement on how it looks. It's shaped like a over-sized bullet.

And yes, an IP camera can be in the Bullet shape.

I would get on Amazon and look for IP Cameras and see which have good reviews.

smeegy, not all businesses run exactly the same. I have a collection of machines ranging from Solaris 4 through 8, Windows 95 through 7, OS/2 to Debian. There are no standardized hardware platform because it would be cost-ineffective.

How to go about washing an engine? by RancidPonyMilkin Cartalk

[–]Anthaneezy 0 points1 point ago

Since you've given us absolutely no idea what kind of car you drive, I can only give you general information:

  • If you have a distributor, get a grocery bag and tie it off. You're going to have a bad time if water gets in there.
  • A de-greaser is safer at removing caked grease than a high pressure hose. When I clean my engine I usually use the low-pressure setting at the car wash
  • Don't spray into any air intake.
  • Let your engine properly cool before blasting it with water.

Faked or not should not impress, just the proper use of a filter would make a world of difference.

Short answer:

Tilt shift.

Real tilt shift uses lenses to create a really shallow focused field of view giving the impression of zooming up on something small.

This uses two bands of gradient-based defocus to make it appear like lens-based tilt-shift.

0:57 seconds in is a completely horrible example of tilt-shift. The Ferry Building should be completely in focus, while Bay Bridge/Treasure Island should be OOF.

I want to set up a security camera to a hard-drive to continuously record, i have a hard drive, but what kind of camera should i get(cheap) and how set up? is it possible? by internetznoobin techsupport

[–]Anthaneezy 1 point2 points ago

is there a way to just buy a camera without having to invest in a dvr security system like a direct to hard drive possibility.

Yes. You can buy bullet cameras a la carte. These cameras are mostly shit. Most come with a fixed focus. This means you can't pan out for a wider field of view or zoom in for a sharper image, nor focus.

i was hoping having the camera wall mounted and have a hole drilled into wall with a hardrive in the wall, that i could manually move every once and a while and plug into computer to review tape

Where you place the camera isn't an issue. If you put it visibly on the outside of the wall, you can then move it around. The added benefit is that people will see it and that is a deterrent in itself. If you put it in the wall, you will only catch what's directly in front of the hole in the wall. Since I don't know your situation I can't assume which is better.

Since it appears that money is a concern, I wouldn't get a full blown DVR (I have a few and they are over-priced for their features and their usability.

Analog cameras, the kind that run over co-axial cable (think traditional CCTV/surveillance cameras), are measured in lines. around 500 and you're getting a good image like you would see with old-school (not the new digital) TV signal. Think back in the 80s, like that.

I would suggest you look into IP cameras. They are small, and can achieve higher resolutions. (http://www.remote-security.com/image/netvision/DG852MF-IR-W-2.bmp) They can be ad hoc, or some can be bought with a DVR. Some come wireless so all you really need to do is mount it and give it power.

If you want to go really cheap, you can simply hook up a webcam to a computer and there exists software that will capture video/images when it senses movement.

tl;dr Go with IP cameras

The best way is to use a dedicated security system with a DVR

No, it's not the best way. I installed these and they suck. Even your "name brand" ones like Q-see and Lorex are shit.

1999 Honda Civic EX Coupe Body Work Advice by JacobCaulfieldin Cartalk

[–]Anthaneezy 0 points1 point ago

If I purchased this part from the scrap yard, what would be the best way of going about installing the new panel?

The front quarter panel can be unbolted and mounted. You could get it painted beforehand. But the panel won't quite match. So the next thing you could do is prepare/primer it before mounting and then get it colored matched, which is a bit more expensive.

1999 Honda Civic EX Coupe Body Work Advice by JacobCaulfieldin Cartalk

[–]Anthaneezy 1 point2 points ago

  1. That bumper might flex back into shape. I'm sure the mounting clips are broken. The fender panel is not something you can DIY. Best bet is to get a new one and have it paint matched.

  2. No way you're really going to salvage that. That's going to need body work.

You can fix some dents with compressed air and a hair dryer. You might have some luck with the front fender, but that rear isn't going to work.

Please take this in the spirit in which it's intended. By the looks of it, it looks like these were driver-caused accidents. Would it be wise to fix it if the driver is prone to accidents?

I can set up a server for you if you want. Just give me the word. I got it running on a dynDNS host.

I'll hop on randomly during the day, like from work and then at night when I'm home.

 virtual_alias_maps = proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_forwardings.cf, mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual_email2email.cf

Problem exists in this file. Double check the credentials.

If you've edited it, use sudo postfix reload to reload the new configuration.

Looks like your lookup map doesn't have the right credentials.

Post the output of postconf -n here. I'm interested in seeing how you're doing the proxy map lookup.

For a fix, I would try logging into the MySQL database using the credentials in your proxymap lookup. I bet the problem lies there. Either by using mysql -u <username> from the commandline or something like PHPMyAdmin.

A simple guide to setting up a server? by Rage4123in Terraria

[–]Anthaneezy 1 point2 points ago

I'm not going to ELI5. You're a big boy, you can figure it out.

  1. Download dedicated server from http://www.terraria.org/terraria-server.zip
  2. Run it, generate the world, name it
  3. Go to your router configuration page and forward port 7777 to your local IP.

    [Internet]-----[router/public_ip]-----[server/private_ip]

The Internet will see your connection as the public_ip. It cannot see your private_ip, since it's a non-routable/private IP. This is where port-forwarding comes in.

Your router has two addressable IPs, one internal and one external. The external one is how the Internet sees you. The internal one is just for your local network.

When you put a port-forward up, the router will accept port 7777 from the Internet and forward the traffic to your local computer.

To find your external IP, google "what's my IP".

To find your internal IP, go to the Start Menu > Run > "cmd". This will bring up a CoMmanD prompt. In this black box type: "ipconfig". This will show you your local/internal_IP. This is the IP you're going to port-forward to.

Log into your router configuration page.

http://192.168.0.1

This is how most home local networks are set up. Typically the username is "admin" and the password is "password". If that doens't work, look at your user's guide that came with the router.

Commuter Concerns by shmadorablein Cartalk

[–]Anthaneezy 2 points3 points ago

is there anything I can do to get better mileage and make sure it holds up in this situation?

  • Keep your car maintained regularly. Things like fresh oil, properly gapped plugs, good spark plug wires, clean distributor rotor(if equipped), air filter will make your car happy and have it run at it's most efficient.
  • Get all the crap you don't need out of the car out. That's all weight you need to lug around.
  • Drive easy. Generally speaking, the faster you go the more gas you use.
  • Keep your tires properly inflated.

Just keeping your car maintained regularly will ensure you won't have a problem with longevity. If a problem arises, you'll find out about it.

I also noticed that using the power windows dims the headlights. Is that normal?

It's normal in that your headlights are using a portion of your electrical power and when you add more load it (like using your power windows) takes away a little power from the headlights. It's not a problem unless you have a failing battery. Any large chain auto parts shop will test it for you for free. If the weather is heating up in your area, you could be seeing a failing battery more.

Pinhole projector. Same principle as the pinhole camera. Don't need much. Just get two pieces of cardboard. Poke a pinhole in one piece. And the other piece should be like 2 feet away. Point the piece towards the sun, the other piece is where the projected image through the pinhole falls on. The farther the back piece is, the bigger it is, but also the more faint it becomes.
