People always lament bad film adaptations of good books. But what are some examples of superior cinematic adaptations? by CheatasaurusRexin literature

Up in the Air is vastly more moving and beautiful as a film. The book and film are so very different...little is similar.

Thinking of buying HOF club seats for a June game I'm taking my pregnant wife to, are they worth it? by metssuckin phillies

You can watch the broadcasters do their thing in the booth...

One of my favorite aspects of sitting on that level at any ballpark is being able to hear the official scorer's announcements in the press box. As a baseball junkie, I love hearing those kind of stats and information.

"Brothers in Arms"- Possibly the greatest television moment/scene ever conceived by Hawkfanin thewestwing

[–]Andewz111 6 points7 points ago

A few things I always think about with this scene.

  1. You wouldn't pass the Cathedral on the way to the State Department (http://westwing.bewarne.com/dc.html).

  2. The pouring rain is a little cliche.

  3. I love this Aaron Sorkin quote about it: No, there was nothing that standards and practices found objectionable in the latin. As for the clergy, there were many of them on the set while we shot the scene (some of them were used on camera.) I was introduced to a minister and said, "You know he's about renounce God, right?" The minister said, "Yeah, I saw rehearsal, it's gonna be great." I said, "That's fine, but am I going straight to hell?" He said, "Maybe for other stuff, but not for this." Then he gave me a pretty good talking-to about how true people of faith are supposed to question God.

"He subsided, grumbling to himself, threatening the future cats which might dare disturb the future rabbits." - John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.

or

"This is not a silent movie. Our voices will save our lives." - Sherman Alexie

1400 x 900 or above.

(By the way...I had this vision while thinking about your project here...what might be intriguing to do is to create desktops that contain the opening and closing quotes from the book, with something significant symbolizing the book in between.)
