The protagonists are the Devis, a group of 108 women of color who volunteered to stop a great evil in the 22nd century by undergoing a dramatic transformation offered by the Construct, an AI collective residing in the Earth's noosphere. With their Mayakali quantum suits, they were given many gifts from this transformation, like flight, astonishing speed, and weapons of almost mythical power, but their most important gift was reincarnation.

And while they succeeded against this great evil, they paid a great price for it: they were lost under millions of tons of radioactive, Siberian rubble for thousands of years. In that time, humanity moved on and forgot about them. During this dark period, the Devis fell into a meditative state and discussed what their purpose in life was.

When the Construct finally extracted them from the Siberian wasteland three thousand years later, the Devis returned to a dramatically changed world: humanity was spread across the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxy. But more importantly, the Construct warned them that the entire Universe was in dire straits: space dinosaurs were coming.

And space dinosaurs are total assholes.
