If you like solo piano, Debussy, Schumann, and Liszt all have great solo piano works and are post-beethoven.

I think it makes it a better piece of art. A better piece of entertainment media? That's another story. The Avengers isn't necessarily trying to be "high art" or anything, so its not really a detriment. Just a way I think TDKR will be better.

Game 4 was led by the Lakers the entire time, won by 3 points.

People clapping after movements is against etiquette, but people aren't ostracized for it. Usually someone will try to inform them of their mistake, but they won't try to shame them.

Honestly, I think most of these Marvel movies have done a good job of avoiding being overly dark. TDK is based on an arc of Batman that is intentionally dark, but Marvel has always balanced action/plot with comedy. Iron Man 1 and 2 are great for that reason.

It looks like the new Alien, without being too similar to Alien that it seems like a Tim Burton-esque "beating the dead cash cow with the also dead golden goose" offering. I can't remember wanting to see a movie so badly in theaters.

Batman is probably the most successfullymarketed superhero in the history of ever. From the Adam West show to the two runs of movies to the success of the Arkham games to the many, MANY runs and timelines of comics, I think it may be the most consistently good across all genres because of the strength of its characters.

I can't think of another character in comic media that has been more frequently, successfully portrayed than the Joker. Mark Hamill in both the animated show and videogames, Jack and Ledger on the screen. All incredibly memorable and still unique.

The Avengers is the All Star game of the superhero genre thus far. It takes four already successful, recent movie lines (Ironman, Hulk, Cap, Thor) and combines them with Samuel L. Fucking Jackson in one well executed movie. That being said, I still wager that TDKR ends up being a better film.

It is, but to a degree that's because people automatically view superhero movies as lower art. The fact that we're saying things like "you know, compared to (insert great movie here), it really isn't that amazing" means that it has accomplished a lot both within the bounds of the genre as well as expanding beyond them.

Personally, I thought it came off a little too camp at times, which was balanced strangely with the more serious dialogue and scenes. Some of the stuff that happened seemed a little bit awkward in the dialogue, even for being a comic movie. It was still great fun, and was good enough that I don't even feel comfortable calling it a summer action movie because I think it was better than that title would lead people to believe, but I still don't get people calling it the greatest superhero movie ever. The Nolan films are far ahead of "The Avengers" from an artistic point of view, again just my opinion.

Surely it does, but the notion that you need orcs and elves hacking at each other or a superhero flying through the skies to make it speak to you is insulting both to listeners and musicians.

Obviously Berlioz was a romantic, he was one of the biggest Beethoven disciples that directly followed Beethoven's death.

Beyond that, don't confuse the way that wealth was able to facilitate this art with wealth being the inspiration for this art. Of course you can't perform a 100 member orchestra piece without a 100 member orchestra and stay true to the score, but that doesn't mean that it was made to have 100 parts only to be exclusive and ritzy.

Just because you can get a job without a masters doesn't mean that you shouldn't get a masters. There are incentives other than financial to pursue higher education, and fucking up your GPA WILL limit your options.

Oh, also, Die Welle (The Wave).

Incredible film (on Netflix, go watch it), very sad ending imo.

That may be the most understated comment in the history of cinema.

It's left intentionally ambiguous, a thelma and louise sort of thing. It seems obvious what happened, but you never find out for sure.

I first saw that movie smoking a big fat bowl...I think even if you're just eating some junk food it forces you to think "man, what am I doing with my life?"

The football team at my university (UT Austin) pulls in enough money to fund not only their own scholarships, but the scholarships and programs of every other sport at the University, and STILL gives money to the general fund afterward.

You develop a top program, it is self sustaining and more. Free exposure for the university, tons of money, and its fun too.
