Looking to make a Purple Haze (by Abita Springs) clone with Bohemian Lager yeast (2124). Thoughts? by Nurvicein Homebrewing

[–]120PerL 0 points1 point ago

I've never had purple haze, but from looking at the HBT link, it seems a little weird to replace a hefeweizen yeast with a lager yeast. You'll definitely be making a different tasting beer than the hefeweizen yeast would have produced.

ELI5: How did Turing prove that most numbers are incalculable? by mcnibbletonin explainlikeimfive

[–]120PerL 2 points3 points ago

I'm not a mathematician per say, but I do have an undergrad degree in math. You're example definitely illustrates why the integers are countable, but doesn't work to prove that the reals are uncountable.

Want to really make your brain hurt? Consider the rational numbers: the set of all numbers that can be represented as a fraction of integers.

Following your example, how many rationals are between 1 and 2? There are infinitely many rational numbers between 1 and 2. So if you're at 1/529384753021 what is the next number? Whatever rational number you pick, I can pick one that is closer. And yet, the rational numbers are countably infinite.

The reals are even more infinite than that. I once formally proved all of this, but today it just sort of makes my head hurt.

Hand Soreness? (First bike, whoopee!!!) by Mario_lovein motorcycles

Wearing gloves that are too small KILLS my hands. It's a night and day difference riding in my small gloves, and my friends gloves that fit me properly. Both are old and broken in, so that's not a factor.

What kind of job do you have that allows you to take weeks, possibly months, off to backpack in the wilderness? by spagheddiein backpacking

[–]120PerL 6 points7 points ago

Is this a dig at the US, or do you not know that we don't have to be given ANY paid vacation by law?

I get 3 weeks, and can take unpaid leave if I want more time off, but it would be tough to take it all at once.

And what country has a mandated 6 weeks of vacation?

Same commands. It makes more sense saying crtl +/- though.

Full Zip Jacket and Pants Issues by Chubby78LTin motorcycles

[–]120PerL 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that's your problem. Some (most?) manufacturers have different sized zippers for different sized garments. Go too far apart in your jacket and pant sizes and they might not be the same length.

Heart of Darkness Belgian Imperial Stout recipe, feedback welcome by chass3in Homebrewing

[–]120PerL 0 points1 point ago

Since you're starting with such a high OG, would you want to mash a little lower to keep your final beer from being too sweet?

I'm pretty new to AG so it's a question for me as much as for you. I know its standard procedure for big IPAs but I haven't made an imperial stout before.

Does table sugar need to be sanitized? How about corn sugar (dextrose)? by cbj99in Homebrewing

[–]120PerL 0 points1 point ago

If you really don't want to add any water, you can remove some of the beer from the fermenter (you won't need much), and dissolve/boil the additional sugar in that, and then put it back into the fermenter after it cools down.

I saw this method used in a 120 minute IPA clone which involved a LOT of sugar additions, so it was impractical to use additional water for each addition.

"Fancy a go of my bike?" Or how to turn your commuter bike into a project bike. by miscoin motorcycles

[–]120PerL 2 points3 points ago

Full translation. Guy offered to let some newbie try riding his bike, which he commutes on. That person rode it 20 meters straight into a fence. It now needs repairs, hence the 'project bike'

Would a Buell Blast be a good motorcycle for a beginner? Or is ~500cc's a bit much? by -IronMan-in motorcycles

[–]120PerL 0 points1 point ago

The Buell is might be a 500, but it makes about the same amount of power as the 250's. The Ninja250 is somewhere in the low to mid 30's and the Buell makes 34hp according to your link.

Fun story for the ATGATT folks by mobomelterin motorcycles

Not arguing with you. It is an arbitrary classification. Just saying why the insurance company probably still requires the same gear.

Anyway, even though it doesn't handle like a bike, and you're less likely to come off it, you're still just as likely to be injured once you're off, so I wouldn't ride without the same gear I wear on a motorcycle anyway.

Looking to buy sport boots. by Fatvodin motorcycles

[–]120PerL 1 point2 points ago

Didn't you look at all three links? The Cortechs are ~$150.

Though I have to say, if you can't afford to spend $200 instead of $150, do you really have enough money to be dealing with a bike? How do you even afford gas? What if something breaks? My attitude has always been that if you can't afford to do something right, then you shouldn't be doing it. That's why I'm only just considering a bike now even though I've been wanting one for a few years.

It's more stable, but still classified as a motorcycle, so I'm sure the dealership's insurance doesn't make much of a distinction.

What other options are there, besides kegs, that will force pressurize beer? by quickeeein Homebrewing

To clarify, you still have to prime and naturally carbonate a party pig as if it were a big bottle, but after it's carbonated you get pressurized dispensing.

I want to ferment my lager around 50-55°F. Where do I set my thermostat? by Plutorin Homebrewing

[–]120PerL 1 point2 points ago

Not so much warm blooded or regulated. Fermentation is just exothermic. Whatever the ambient temperature is, the fermenting beer will be a little warmer.

What Should The PSI be on a Full, Room Temperature 5lb C02 Tank?? by Elshupacabrain Homebrewing

[–]120PerL 1 point2 points ago

According to this zymurgy article, weight is a more meaningful indicator of fullness. The pressure in the tank stays pretty constant right up until it's almost empty.
