Man, I've never felt bad for United fans before... and I still don't. It's so delicious

Delicious describes it really well, haven't seen this much egg on united's face in my lifetime twice over!

Haha its funny how all the Arsenal jokes are being recycled back. Except I felt bad for Arsenal back then, I feel no remorse for Man U!

At first, I was reluctant to harp on Man U too much, and then I looked at the starting lineups:

Evans-Ferdinand-Smalling-Evra Anderson - Fletcher - Young Nani - Welbeck - Rooney

With Chicharito, Phil Jones, Park, Berbatov, and Valencia all on the bench. And then you look at Arsenal:

Jenkinson - Djourou - Koschielny - Traore Ramsey - Coquelin - Arshavin Walcott - Van Persie - Rosicky

They aren't comparable. Arsenal were limping along after having just lost Fabs and Nasri, whereas Man U appeared to be at the height of the powers. And so, I will revel in all Man U jokes.

There is another difference, though. Arsenal's 8:2 was deserved and reflected the run of play. I think United's score was harsh. City was better, but not 6:1 better. They lost 3 goals in the added time.

Both matches were 3-1 at one point and Arsenal looked like having the best chances of getting back into it. RvP missed a penalty and Arshavin missed a 1 on 1 with the keeper. Had any of those gone in, 8-2 never would have happened. Man U, on the other hand, never looked in the match at 2-0, much less 3-1.

But, even granting that Arsenal's performance was poorer than Man U's, Man U was still beaten at home with a respectable starting lineup, whereas Arsenal fielded what would be a weakened even for the Carling Cup, much less Man U at Old Trafford.

8 first team players out. Replacements for replacements were unavailable.

It would be tough for any team that basically lost its entire midfield, and had 8 players out to play against United at OT.

JENKINSON! Argh I cringe when I read his name. He lost the game man. He lost Bale v Spurs. He lost n Manu. The Scourge of Arsenal: Jenkinson.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

Jenkinson was bought as a project, not as an impact player. We never expected to be playing him so early. That being said, he tracks back well, crosses the ball accurately, and is deceivingly pacey. He's really young and only a few games out of League 2. Give him a chance.

A team which misses a penalty and a 1 on 1 is pretty much asking to lose. Footy isn't about having the best chances, its about taking them.

Not to negate shameful Man U performance, however.

good to hear liverpool fans have our backs :) I also felt bad for Liverpool with all that Gillet and Hicks cunts that ruined your club back then :( but seems liverpool are back on the up now :P

If we can score some of our chances we'll be fine but there are teams creeping up on us, Newcastle are flying and spurs have a game in hand, not mention Arsenal on a roll at the minute. We need to get back to winning again. Two draws in a row can make life very difficult, as i'm sure you know! Oh and we got your back...for now.....:)

You have to admit, for a footballer, better to be an asshole than a pussy.

I dunno with all the 8 2 jokes that have been going on four three fortnights this could easily just turn into one lol gunners thread.

You do remember what happened at the end of that season right? :)

[–]AC MilanWalrusOnTheRocks -5 points-4 points ago

Weren't half or more of those goals against a 10-man squad? Yes, 6 goals is impressive either way, but it wasn't against a full squad... so lets just take it easy, aiight?

[–]ping0m0r3 2 points3 points ago

I hate this argument. Man City were causing problems and Utd had a player sent off because of it. It's like Mourinho's comment when he was at Chelsea that "Barca have never beaten us with 11 men" - man, how bitter does that sound??
