I dont understand why anyone wouldnt have a stomp pad, you can get clear ones if you dont like how it would cover up a part of your board, I had a clear maple leaf for years until I found this wicked Airblaster Air Pill thats black and white. But if you dont have one dont you slip when you need to skate off the chair? I know you can jam your foot against your binding but why make it harder than it needs to be?

[–]WestCoastRainLoverShreddin since 95 2 points3 points ago

Once you get use to not using one, its simple... I haven`t used one since the 90s

[–]AssumerUpstate NY | Rossi Taipan 158 3 points4 points ago

It might be simple, but it's even simpler with one

[–]halfwayhipster 23 points24 points ago

people still use stomp pads?

[–]AddyctStuck in KY... sigh 6 points7 points ago

what do you suggest in lieu of a stomp pad?

[–]yammerant 22 points23 points ago

The blood of my enemies. Why, what do you use?

[–]notoncueSkeystoned 5 points6 points ago

I actually have never used a stomp pad. Just press your foot up against your back binding with the force coming down at a 45 degree angle, so you basically wedge your boot into the corner of where your back binding meets your board. Works better than a stomp pad would I think, but again, I've never used a stomp pad.

[–]cpt_bongwater 5 points6 points ago

Stomp pads are good for scraping excess snow off the bottom of your boots tho

[–]imjorgyRaging Buffalo, Salomon Sanchez 151 3 points4 points ago

Quintessential for one-footers!!!

[–]nothin_but_quotes7Springs|Bataleon ET\Lib TRS 1 point2 points ago

If you don't use a stomp pad, you can just use your highback for this.

[–]lost_faith_in_humansWildcat, NH 0 points1 point ago

and risk ruining my binding? Lets see, $5 stomp pad, $200 bindings..... you decide

[–]nothin_but_quotes7Springs|Bataleon ET\Lib TRS 2 points3 points ago

How...is....that...going...to ruin your bindings?

If I spend $200 on bindings, they sure as hell better not break because I scraped snow off of my boot with them. I have been doing this for years and nothing has happened. If bindings can withstand a chairlift pushing down on the highback, they can survive my foot.

[–]lost_faith_in_humansWildcat, NH 2 points3 points ago

eh, I was just playing devil's advocate. I wouldn't actually expect them to break, but I also wouldn't kick the top frequently.

Go naked.

[–]kevmacJasper AB ☼ Custom X ♥ 1 point2 points ago

I haven't used one in years either, ram you foot against your binding if you need that kind of traction.

[–]deyv -1 points0 points ago

That rubbery stuff on the sole of your boot, rubber I believe it's called, does a good job of sticking on slippery surfaces.

That and just balancing. It's not like you're going to do a run strapped into only one binding, just slide 10-20 feet out of the way of the chair.

[–]goingsidewaysmy worst day snowboarding is better than your best day at work 3 points4 points ago

a placebo for balance imho

[–]marylandmymaryland 3 points4 points ago

let me guess... you used stomp pads before they were cool?

[–]animalchin99 2 points3 points ago

Stomp pads were cool?

[–]marylandmymaryland 1 point2 points ago

i thought everyone used stomp pads, at least at any mountain you're going to be riding a lift...?

[–]fatharro 1 point2 points ago

It's easy to get off the lift and maneuver without it. Just takes practice. Stomp pads are unnecessary.

[–]marylandmymaryland 1 point2 points ago

i'm not arguing for them, i just thought everyone used them. we sell hundreds of them at my shop, so i just figured.

[–]TrogdorDaBurninatorSpokane, WA 14 points15 points ago

Why so much hate towards stomp pads? I actually really like having one. They're just helpful getting around on cat tracks sometimes, and in my experience they can look pretty cool and make your board unique. Just my two cents.

[–]drunkboarderI drink, I snowboard[S] 13 points14 points ago

I agree, they are useful. Not necessary by any means. But useful nonetheless.

[–]bacon_vodkaBlue Mt, PA - Burton Process 1 point2 points ago

Especially for one who snowboards drunk all the time. Gotta be easier to stand on a stomp pad then put your boot in the back of the binding, while drunk at least.

[–]deyv 0 points1 point ago

They can also ruin the look of some boards... For example: http://arborcollective.com/snow/boards/view/35/a-frame

[–]exmotreesguns -3 points-2 points ago

They are for newer snowboarders. I used one for 6+ years too, but then got a new board and a more experienced snowboarder suggested I try it without one for a while. He suggested what others said (place your foot against your binding.) It's been a couple of seasons since and I haven't missed one.

[–]TrogdorDaBurninatorSpokane, WA 2 points3 points ago

Ive been snowboarding for 8 years, i still just personally prefer having one. I like the look of the one i have on my board and although it works without one as you said, i just like the extra grip myself.

[–]lost_faith_in_humansWildcat, NH 4 points5 points ago

"You're only good if you don't use a stomp pad!"

Get real. Some people just like having them. It has no meaning to how good a snowboarder you are.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I don't see how using a stomp pad for what....60 total seconds a day? Determines if you're a good rider or not.

[–]toolatealreadyfappedIce coast; Lobster Parkbaord 1 point2 points ago

I spent the first 10 years without one. Put some studs on this year. We'll see if it makes a difference, but I like the look a lot

[–]Ody523 12 points13 points ago

what's a stomp pad?

[–]Lobodomy 3 points4 points ago

The rubber thing in front of the back binding where you can put your foot without it slipping off.

[–]cab360 -1 points0 points ago

They're a lot like training wheels for a bike. You might need them to start ride riding but eventually they need to come off

[–]exmotreesguns 1 point2 points ago

You're getting voted down because the truth hurts people.

I hardly think a stomp pads a crutch. Some people like them, some dont. So what?

[–]KreayvinMoarPeenusNew York, NY 0 points1 point ago

What?

[–]cryonineBuffalo / NYC 1 point2 points ago

I don't even have a stomp pad on my board, but I can't help but think WTF? Haha, how could anyone see using a stomp pad as a "crutch" especially if - as stated by many here - jamming your foot against your back binding accomplishes the same exactly thing?

Sometimes I just don't get you guys!

[–]spindraggertoronto, canada. forum destroyer. 0 points1 point ago

uhmmm yeah... back in the day, they didn't even have snowboard boots. are you going to fault riders for wearing them now?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

How...

[–]Ody523 -1 points0 points ago

whoosh...

[–]Lobodomy 0 points1 point ago

Oh, that was a joke...

[–]SimonXRSweden | Lobster TheJibBoard 4 points5 points ago*

For the people disliking stomp pads, there's always these Aluminium Studs. Never tried them though.

[–]drunkboarderI drink, I snowboard[S] 0 points1 point ago

I tried those out. They were Volcom studs. Not bad, cool that you can arrange them however you want.

[–]mkane848NJ Rider | Burton Custom Flying V 0 points1 point ago

I have diamond shaped studs on my board, works great. You can make any pattern you want, too. I've seen a bunch of people use them and have a variety of patterns with them, letting anyone be as unique as they want to be.

[–]toolatealreadyfappedIce coast; Lobster Parkbaord 1 point2 points ago

I just put Dakine's pyramid studs on this week. I just enjoyed the process of designing my pattern

[–]lost_faith_in_humansWildcat, NH 6 points7 points ago

Wow, I wasn't aware that so many people on here believed that it "isn't cool" to have a stomp pad and "you're only good if you don't use one". People who think like that are no better than 4th graders that just have to have those cool shoes because joey and jake both have them and they're popular.

IMO: 1) Its not too hard to go without a stomp pad. 2) They have no bearing on one's abilities as a snowboarder. 3) Some people just like them.

I use one because, frankly, I don't care enough to not use one. I only need to prove I'm good at snowboarding to myself, and I do it on the slopes, not getting on and off the lifts. Isn't that what snowboarding is all about anyway? Its not about showing everyone you're good, or buying all the designer gear. Its about pushing yourself and that feeling at the end of a long day of true happiness and freedom.

TL;DR: Don't worry about it, I was ranting.

[–]drunkboarderI drink, I snowboard[S] 4 points5 points ago

I use stomp pads for "attempting" one-footed tricks, where you pull one foot out of the binding (wall plants, boneless, no-comply, etc.)

Again... I attempt lol.

[–]deyv 0 points1 point ago

http://lolwut.com/

But seriously, I would like to see what you mean! I've never heard about those tricks.

I need to a stomp pad for my new board. I'd be interested.

[–]Lobodomy 0 points1 point ago

That would be sweet.

[–]trlfectaLake Louise - Rome Artifact 1 point2 points ago

grip tape is the new revolution, you heard it here first

[–]Coop3 0 points1 point ago

I feel like that wouldn't do a thing once it got wet. It works?

[–]exmotreesguns 0 points1 point ago

Nope the grit in the tape is more then large/sharp enough to overcome being submerged in water.

I have grip tape on the bottom of my car and with wet sneakers I don't slide or anything.

[–]littleleprechaunbrew 0 points1 point ago

im in, just got a new board and realized its lack of grippable surface

[–]altqqMI | Burton Custom 0 points1 point ago

id get one too!

[–]kevan0317Southeast | NS Evo-r 1 point2 points ago

I'd buy one. I don't like riding without a stomp pad. I'm not "core."

[–]drunkboarderI drink, I snowboard[S] 0 points1 point ago

Too late to ask Santa for it, damn. I might make a shreddit sticker, put it on the board, and lay a clear pad over it.

[–]imjorgyRaging Buffalo, Salomon Sanchez 151 1 point2 points ago

I will not be taking off my Crab grabs!

[–]JDilly 0 points1 point ago

I don't use a stomp pad but those look awesome!

[–]el_zebraboDC 158 Devun Walksh Pro HKD 1 point2 points ago

I don't use a stomp pad anymore, but upvote for the username.

[–]MSTR_CTRLBellingham, WA / Mt. Baker 0 points1 point ago

I like the idea of it, but I don't think I would rock one. I definitely need to get a shreddit sticker though.

[–]raarkyNZ/London/Bern. Libtech MC Kink, Phoenix[M] 1 point2 points ago

hmm, this could be a good idea.

Anyone able to give me some direction as to where I could start looking into getting this done?

[–]MrTexperience 0 points1 point ago

No need. Most bindings now have anti stick snowguards and boots very rarely pickup enough snow to really impact it. As far as one footed turning off the lift... Just practice. Stomp pads are usually pretty weird. And are a bitch to take off

[–]jackp0t08Michigan 0 points1 point ago

I used to not use a stomp pad because I liked to see the design on my board. As long as you know what you're doing I dont think it is too hard to steer around without one.

I ended up getting a stomp pad because I figured there is no reason not to have one. They are not really expensive. Sometimes I end up riding a fair distance before buckling in and it makes that small ride take much less effort. It isnt really convenient to stomp on my binding because the straps arent super flexible. Dont really mind that it takes up a small part between my feet, you can still see the whole rest of the board and it looks good. I never really pay attention to whether or not some random people on the hill are using them so I figure who else really cares.

[–]yangersnowboarding is fun 1 point2 points ago

press up against your binding and presto no need for a stomp pad

[–]Playitlouder 1 point2 points ago

Found this: http://www.strappad.com I think you can put a logo too.

[–]chrismetalrockReno. Burton Custom Flying V 0 points1 point ago

nice find

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points ago

Stomp Pads just look ugly do very little... pointless.

[–]Coop3 1 point2 points ago

I'd buy it.

[–]thebudgieCairngorm, UK - Salomon Titan 0 points1 point ago

I wonder if the haters only ever ride chairlifts, because they are great to have when you're riding up a T-bar or poma lift IMO.
